IGN “ Steam accounted for more than half of Monster Hunter Wilds’ total dollar sales in the U.S.”

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

As you’d expect, Monster Hunter Wilds was the best-selling game of February across PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. But here’s the interesting stat: Steam accounted for more than half of Monster Hunter Wilds’ total dollar sales.

Safe to say Monster Hunter Wilds sold more on Steam than all consoles combined in US

Why would they? They don't seem to need good ports to sell, so I don't see why they'd fix anything.
High volumes of sales leads to high volumes of expectations. If those expectations aren’t met, then the next product would be in peril. Capcom doesn’t have the luxury of being Nintendo, whose blind, frothing fans will snap up anything Nintendo shits out, sometimes in multiple copies.

I would've preferred playing it on my PS5 Pro, but I have given up on paying for Playstation Plus. Charging for online is still such a bull shit thing that these consoles do, so I went with the PC version even though it's an inferior experience visually...I can at least play it with others without spending extra.

From and Capcom are the two Japanese devs that are eating really good with PC sales.

Damn, I really hope Team Ninja's games would do better on PC too.

I imagine it being even harder skewed to PC in Europe/Asia. These more core centric games have the largest audiences on PC - where the enthusiasts are found. The playing field has changed. Consoles appeal to that special demographic that's too hardcore for mobile but not invested enough to just get a good PC.

You're going to see publications back pc even more now.

The war is over and Sony won. It's not going to get clicks for too much longer. They will have the data. They need that ad revenue and these kinds of sensationalist articles will be what they go for.

Which in turn gets more heads looking and thinking they are missing out if they aren't on pc.

You're right that it's all about engagement but I'd argue the war is over and Steam won. Steam is bigger now than PS4 and PS5 combined, Xbox can't even beat Playstation let alone Steam. The biggest winner is mobile but everyone here ignores that, Steam is second only to that.

Sega too. They all go with a semi-realistic art direction for most of their games.

I wonder if anyone at Bandai Namco dares bring up the issue at meetings.
Goes beyond the anime aesthetic of course, there's also storytelling, Asian stock characters, dialogue and other aspects. Stuff that does not translate well to an international audience.

I think it depends on the game. Monster Hunter being a multiplayer game heavily skews towards PC. I wouldn't be surprised if a game like AC Shadows is selling much better on consoles. I wish Piscatella was consistent in dropping stats like this, but he seems to cherry pick

There is no doubt PC is growing at a much faster rate. PC folks should be applauding China, and Asia in general, for pretty much guaranteeing future 3rd party games will never miss the platform, which is great. It will be interesting what the splits look like later in the generation, especially after GTA 6 is released. Absolutely wild they are sticking to their archaic strategy of timed console exclusivity

This and mods is the main reason I mostly play PC now

God this guy was an insufferable moron.

"I make more money than you."

Who the hell asked you? And he was in his 50s acting like an elementary schoolboy.

Haha yea, he tried his sales pitch on me to hire me as an engineer for CNC and by saying basically he wants to automate everything because he fucking hates employees. Then surprised pikachu face when I don’t quit my very nice job and move from Quebec to Alberta to be one of his employees he fucking hates 😂

Some peoples seem to enter this forum with a bingo card picked personality disorder..

Him being from Alberta explains pretty much everything.

It's so weird people think it would be anything else. Capcom has literally said in their financial reports (which makes them legally liable for it) that half of their revenue comes from PC these days. Why would the most PC-skewed game in their portfolio do worse than that?

It was always cope. There's a lot of resistance from certain people here into believing PC players actually buy games. Some even postulated that PS would sell a lot more because of Japan when there are only around 7M PS5 units.

Flash forward to now and Wilds has sold fewer than 800K in Japan. That's still a large number per capita, but it's nowhere near being the most important market for that franchise anymore.

It haven't sold 1 million yet in Japan on PS5?!

It's cool to see because it means there will be more Capcom and other Japanese games on the platform...but release a less busted version for launch, including for consoles.

Love the game, but it's not done.

Not trying to be negative for the sake of it, but the game is priced at £60 on Steam and thats ignoring ALL the microtransaction that it's drowning in, looks dated (played the demo) and has pretty bad performance, so why did PC users ignore all their usual stances and buy this? (obviously not a 1:1 ratio, but there has to be crossover) For the state and price of this game, it should've been thrown on the pile with the rest of the shit of that gets sold with lazy "we'll patch it later" devs.

I think it’s less that people ignore mobile and more that core gamers tend to prefer games you simply cannot play on mobile. I don’t think anyone denies that Fortnite, Tetris, Candy Crush, and Snake have more users on iPhones than there are consoles in existence ten times over. It’s just that those games aren’t what anyone wants to talk about. Those games are “waiting for the bus” games.

Anyway, for as much as people overstated the “death” of PCs (and PC hardware *is* largely dying outside of gaming and business sales) people equally overstate the death of consoles. Business is very healthy at Sony and Nintendo. It’s nice that PC is more popular now though. I just wish it was a tad more accessible. Maybe that’s what Microsoft aims to do with the next Xbox.

I think it is safe to say Monster Hunter Wilds flop on Playstation 5 in Japan then. Considering Monster Hunter World sold 1.35m physical copies in just 3 days for PS5, and now Monster Wilds is struggling to sell 1m on PS5 after several weeks

Question is : Now that we see that PC releases on Japanese games now account for half+ of the sales number, why do editors don't fucking care about game optimization on the main selling platform ?

From Software games always requiring mods to unlock basic PC features, even Elden Ring
Final Fantasy same shit
Now this

Why do japanese editors hate PC despite it being their main audience ?
