What else is Mario Kart world hiding?

So if Mario kart is going to be 80 dollars or 90 euros etc for the physical version how could it justify its price tag? At the moment it ain't doing it for me but:

I have a theory. We only have heard about 3 modes in Mario kart so far: free roam, Grand Prix and knockout tour.

What about battle mode? With 24 cars and a more open world based game. Could they do a 24 player Battle Royale mode? I think a variation on this is almost a sure fire possibility. Obviously not the entire world but a section with a barrier around it. This combined with balloon battle could be fantastic.
I have noticed the more simplistic design of the tracks so far lead themselves to more to driving around in different directions.

I also think they may have to do a single player mode..Nintendo themselves have hinted there is more to the free roam mode so what is it? I'm going to say some form of mission mode. Sort of like the DS version but more expanded. They're certainly not going to have all that empty space outside of the tracks and do nothing with it.

With a direct coming in 9 days. It's gonna need a lot to talk about and this could be it. I don't think a story mode is on the cards.

I still think the game is too expensive lol but I'm interested to see what they have to try and justify it.

What do you think?

Adventure and more online stuff probably.

It's literally one of the best selling single platform games of all time.

There isn't many games tons of people still play over 10 years later. If one game was worth $80 it's Mario kart.

I'm expecting a track editor with sharing functions.
So maybe custom online games where you can use your own tracks or even other users ones.

The only way they could save this is by announcing that DLC maps will be added to the world free of charge. That would make sense as the open world would need to be consistent for everyone in multiplayer, not just people who purchased DLC.

I think the only thing it's currently hiding are the details. I bet there will be a lot of little challenges and things to do in free roam mode. Maybe.

Otherwise, I think what we've seen is what we're getting.

Though there almost certainly will be some kind of extra land not currently shown on the map that had the likes of Rainbow Road and whatnot. Probably up in the clouds.

This is what I'm hoping for. This game is obviously going to receive updates for exactly the reason that you mention. Now it's up to Nintendo to decide whether they're going to make the smart choice or the funny choice.

There is going to be a major Open World mode that they haven't unveiled yet.

It's going to be the feature that can make this game easily last 8 years.

I think the US is the only country getting upscaled like this, and the only country where crap reasons fly

When does Nintendo give away content. I liked all the stuff they added to MK8 and it was worth the money, but they do not give you more for free.

a 10$ launch-day DLC
/s

we'll find soon in the Direct, I guess

Ultimately my wife brought me to earth and made me realize that at least if we buy the bundle, this "mario kart price problem" won't really exist...

In that scenario you wouldn't be getting content for free but everyone who buys the game is being forced to pay for DLC.

I'm hoping for a single player campaign with exploration around the open world and perhaps meaningful upgrades or progression

I'm not holding my breath but I'd love for that to be the case

There's no justification. It's just $80.

Which I will pay because... man, fuckin' whatever. I just want to play a fun video game.

The "world" at the end has a funny ring to it. Reminds me of Nintendo Land... but anyway, carry on..

Probably another $80 worth of DLC they'll release over 1-2 years.
The final fully complete version of the game will be $160 and never go on sale.

Do you guys think it will be kind of a GaaS game that will be updated for years? I hope so. More tracks, more characters, more vehicles and items. We probably wont get another MK for a decade so they better update this shit :D

Shit is gonna be lit yo.

We'll know soon, but I'd imagine they have a lot of content like missions/quests that are spread out in the open world.

I'll definitely be checking out the Direct.

So apparently there are vehicles… for your vehicles, in the game:

I'm guessing there might be flying vehicles as well. That'd be pretty interesting.

I'm curious to find out if these are just for overworld exploration or if they'll be a mechanic in races as well..

Just add some towns and civilians npcs
They were in the demos and some of them even had unique looks/outfits, but were oddly non-interactable.

This hopefully hints at a quest mode. I would presume, with Nintendo being Nintendo, that they wouldn't just build an open world like a typical Forza Horizon or Crew game.

They would probably aim higher.

Probably monthly events, arena battles, and they gonna swap tracks in seasons like fortnite.

I wont be surprised if theres some sort of an adventure mode with a plot? Or quests. Bill Trinnen from treehouse hinted theres much to.discover in the world.

Nintendo is known for holding their cards tight to surprise players. But the Direct is near and I assume it will reveal more, but maybe not everything.

They had 10 years to develop this game.
