What a 'full' Marathon run actually looks like

Looks alright to me visually. The premise though is a bit more worrying of how much well designed pve loops and loots is going to hard carry this game along with how well the pvp fits in alongside it. As a solo player this probably isn't going to be my jam unless unorganized groups can still get a satisfying progression through it. We need more successes right now instead of failures, so hopefully they can pull it off.

That restriction was dumb af, if thats not representative of how your game plays than why you want to showcase it like that for the first time? Everyone said this game is missing the slow burn element of extraction shooters and that is what makes them good
Extraction shooters like DMZ or this with the fast corny movement doesn't work…. The colors bright solid simple colors and overall art-style is just trash…

Not seeing or feeling the atmosphere.
Looks like a game where you shoot things with a gun. The simple art style hurts the boring/mediocre map design and vice versa.
It's lacking that flavour, that burst.

A shooter MMO. That same disconnected non weighty feel I get from MMOs. Like not being grounded in the world.
Bungie has not done the job of hiding the fact that I'm pointing and clicking at things.

What are you taking about? You don't think Bungie has expansion planned into marathon?

How did James get banned that fast? This sucks because I wanted to finish this convo with him.

But to answer your question........what ever expansion they have will be built off a small foundation. And this shocks me.

Going to show my age here, but it's amazing how FPS gunplay has been dumbed down so much to just sprint-ads-shoot with the odd slide or ability thrown in, the only thing that sets FPS' apart from each other now is everything that happens around the copy and paste gunplay, and even that is all just a mish mash of shit copied from other games.

We used to be jumping backwards 10' in the air over warthogs and hitting them with sticky grenades while the exploding wreck goes on to splatter more people, boys what the fuck happened?

I don't get excited watching this, I don't see it. If it was free I would 100% try it, but this needs to prove itself to me to make me care.

It's gonna come down to how addictive the loot chase is, or it needs 93+ on Metacritic.

Or else its dead in 6 months. They rely on getting all the Destiny players, maybe Apex players because of the team dynamic. Tarkov players wont give a fuck about this. And causuals wont pay to try.

Battle passes and monetization happened.

What used to be games built around fun, skill expression, and creative gameplay moments have now become platforms for selling cosmetics. I think developers intentionally simplify mechanics and reduce the gameplay ceiling so that games are more "accessible" to a broader audience, which really means making them easier to monetize

Instead of designing rich, skill based experiences like sticking a grenade mid-air or pulling off insane splatter kills, they focus on engagement loops: daily challenges, unlock trees, and FOMO based battle passes

The core gameplay is no longer the priority, it's just a vehicle for selling you skins and emotes every season.

The magic got traded in for microtransactions

3 mo is brutal. I guess add an extra D for the "rate Xbox June Showcase" poll in his honor.

That looks like a mediocre 10 year old shooter with visuals that look like someone vomited a package of crayons all over the screen....

I didn't see what he said to get banned, was it deleted?

What foundation are you referring to?

That art style is not convincing or appealing at all in game but I really liked the cinematic trailer - in game it looks like Baby's First FPS.

I didnt watch the entire video, but skimmed it. And in my skimming saw zero gun fights. I'm sure there's some in there somewhere, but just saw a narrator guy gabbing and lots of running around. If this video is a good representation of an actual round then which ever guy said it (I forget), but either Luke Stephens or Skill Up is wrong saying the maps have lots of action. It was weird because one guy said that, but the other guy said the opposite. Maybe they were playing different maps. Not sure.

The problem this game is going to have as an extraction shooter that is one part slow burn, but then one part heart pumping gameplay is the art style. Tarkov's art fits the setting well. It's a gritty, military, modern day kind of setting.

Marathon is a neon coloured sci fi shooter which has absolutely zero grit or tension from art style alone. It's like kids plopping on as many sci fi lego bricks making a figure with as much stuff on as possible.... trying to be edgy, not gritty.

Jesus Christ, I almost had a seizure between the juddery 20fps footage in the background, the game's garish color scheme and the dude talking taking half of the screen.

LOL, fuck this ugly shite
Ya. What a crap video feed. The streamer's pop in head runs fluid, but the game footage was maybe 20 fps tops. Weird upload.

i'm personally looking forward to trying it out, but I won't be surprised if this tanks and no one gives a shit about it a month or two after release.

I know I'm not the target audience for this type of game, but I really find Bungie pretty small-minded... I mean, The Division 10 years ago had an open world, PvE activities, and a fully integrated extraction PvPvE zone — sounds way more ambitious than anything Bungie has done in the last decade.
Lol they literally did this in destiny 2. Sounds like what you guys want is just destiny 2.

Look at the big games rumored and ones we know for sure will be coming within 2 months of this game

Even if its a mild success the last couple of months of this year looks to be loaded

This looks like more ADHD Generation bullshit which a game like Hunt is the exact opposite of. That's the reason I play that, it's Tension City.

Also this art style went from kinda stylish in the trailers to looking like a Steam indie game from 10 years ago in practice. Even the menus look off-putting to me.

Last but not least these two twats are insufferable with their nonstop ya ya ya WOOWW ya like ya like like WOW omg cheat code activated ya'll folks lol.

This art style is... not great... There is like a weird n64 fog effect going on with the map that makes it very difficult to see in the distance.

Also, is this 30 fps?

What timing?

Apart from Hunt Showdown, there is no extraction shooter on consoles.

As for PC, Tarkov doesn't seem more exciting in any way (gameplay, art style is a different matter):

there's plenty of extraction games on consoles, it just depends how symantic you want to be with the definition.

BF2042 had an extraction mode and it all bombed, The Division games almost pioneered the mode for the mainstream originally, Sea of theives isn't a shooter but it's absolutely an extraction game, Helldivers 2 is an extraction variant (and the first game). DMZ use to exist, i don't play cod anymore so i don't know if it's still a thing.

the no extraction games on console depends on how rigid you want to be with the terminology.

Customer: So what makes this game so special and unique?

Dev: Well, we have cool systemic narrative story telling in a 4th map. We're planning on hyping it up as we get closer to launch and we'll let players "unlock" it pretty soon afterwards.
FTFY

Announcement trailer visuals looked cool, game itself looks bland.
