Marathon delayed by Bungie

The same could have said about Concord. Almost all complains where either because it shouldn't be a paid game(even saying this could save the game) or lack of stages.
Until they deal with the elephant in room, it will not matter. The game lacks any form of appeal. Its an ugly game, with unapealling artstyle and ugly characters no one have interest in it. A delay can not fix this.
ARC Raiders has shit looking character that still got great word of mouth because of better gameplay. I won't say Marathon couldn't use work, but it and Concord are leagues apart.

They won't release this game around GTA 6, so I can see it being delayed till the end of 2026.

Everyone and their mother saw this coming.

I don't give a shit about this game.
But yeah theyreally need to increase the visual fidelity. The art style in CGI trailer looks nice but in the gameplay the enviroment looks like Lego bricks.

No new date?
They wont give a new date until they decide to keep this shit or not ... if GOY and DS2 are big hitters and with GTA6 around the corner they may choose to just let this turd fade into oblivion and eventually appear with a new probably SP game in its place.

But If this game gets canceled without any new game announced, Bungie is getting axed 100%.

It's kind of embarrassing to go from studios confidently releasing games to now coming out of the dressing room every 15 minutes asking their boyfriend "how do I look?"

Yeah.. "I promise 1 tent pole a year!!" ...to say that with a straight face like is something good.. is laughable

Some of our immediate focus areas....

...
...doubling down
Actually sounds to me like a sharp course correction to …. Destiny.

If they execute it fixes all my issues, single player, lean in on lore and progression. I grew up with Marathon, the potential is huge.

Wait a minute, didn't Hulst just confidently proclaim this was their next "deeply bold, innovative and engaging title" on the recent webcast? - the implication being the game was already stencilled out and had its gameplay set in stone?

If they intend to re-reveal this game at some point, its next re-iteration better be some amazeball shit that'll blow our collective minds.
Yes, Hermen said something similar.

But delaying a game doesn't imply any drama. Many great games like GoWR, GT7 or BotW also got delays.

It's all about the reasons.

Marathon's delay, a game that has already had 3 directors, has little to do with those others.

This is just delaying the inevitable.

I was assured all the negative feedback came from CHUD trolling bots. 🤔

Sounds like they're retooling the whole damn thing. Anything short of a campaign, death match and easy ways to keep your precious loot after a death will results in a sloppa floppa bomba.

  • ...a commitment to releasing Marathon by the end of March 2026: "We're also very excited about Marathon's anticipated launch in this fiscal year," Hulst confirmed.

i think Bungie has a deadline to not slip this fiscal year.
If they where going to kill it they'd be doing that now. Unless the game gets worse during the extra time obviously. But I don't think that's actually possible.

You know, I actually thought the game looked alright in recent videos. But I cant stand the character art, they look hideous.
Well the artwork may change some as it goes through more revisions. It doesn't bother me so much but it definitely feels different than other Bungie stuff. The game has good gunplay and the foundation is solid. Does it need to tighten up some things after playing the beta sure. But the foundation is there, the game will have an audience.

If they decided internally to cancel the game, announcing an indefinite delay is a better publicity move than outright cancelling, especially considering how close to release this actually was. It buys them time to figure out their next move, whether that's pivoting or salvaging assets for another project etc, and it protects the company and brand from further damage.

I'm not saying that this will happen, but I also wouldn't be shocked if they made that call.

that time frame is an ultimatum. this is Bungie's last opportunity. after that is on Sony to do whatever they want with the studio. Azteccross said, it's the name of the studio that holds weight. this is why Sony is not going to let Bungie (the name) die.

But an indefinite delay would just be delaying the inevitable outright cancelling at some point. Let face it cancelling the game right now would hardly be a PR disaster.

I agree a complete cancellation is not outside the realms of possibility. Hopefully they can turn it around. It looks like it needs more than 6 months from what ive seen though.

In your head maybe. You've been salivating over this game and Bungies demise for a while now. Hopefully you don't get what you so dearly seem to want.

If they're adding a solo/duo queue then they'd have to rework the entire games loot distribution. They're also talking about rebalancing combat encounters, AI, adding proximity chat, and changing the visual identity. This isn't coming out this year for sure if they're to realise those goals. And if it takes another 2 years to work these things into the game, is it really worth it in the end?

Definitely not this year. Looked to me from what i saw the bones were there, just a lot of work still to be done. The sentiment around the game is so bad though they need to come out with a stone cold banger, which I don't think is possible in 6 or so months, if at all.

On a positive note I played the closed Arc Raider test last fall and youd be amazed how much better the game was just 6 months later. It was in far worse shape back then compared to what I saw of Marathon.

1. Destiny is one of the most overrated IP's in the history of the medium. Yea, I said it.

2. PlayStation wasted a colossal amount of money on Bungie and they haven't done jack shit since. Helldivers 2 taking the world by storm but not without numerous server/online issues, where was Bungie and their "expertise" when needed?

3. Marathon had better deliver the goods or we might see a Bungie fire sale.

Ahhh yes, the most expensive mistake PlayStation ever made by acquiring Bungie. Will this game bring vindication? Stay tuned!

I have zero interest and regard Bungie as one of the most overrated studios in gaming history but I recognize they have a loyal following so I think the game will find moderate success. Still, what PlayStation *needs* out of Bungie is a massive hit and I don't believe this is it.

I don't think I have anything more to add 👌

in my head what?
You've been salivating over this game and Bungies demise for a while now.
🤔 a studio deeply hijacked with woke ideology?.. yes, im salivating for their glorious demise. that would be another example for the rest of the industry!!

Hopefully you don't get what you so dearly seem to want.
This could be a redemption arc the likes of which we've never seen before (assuming they get their ideology behind) or the confirmation that woke people and institutions just don't get it

... proximity chat uh?

I can't believe we went from the best teaser trailer of the entire generation to this. 3.6 billions are fading into oblivion. Bungie can't survive this.

Not putting it out in the state it's in is the right call. But I don't know if continuing to invest more time and money into that game is the right answer...

I didn't get to try the alpha a back then. and while I feel I probably won't be that into it from the videos, I didn't hate it either. the stuff they say they'll be focusing on now, such as the proximity chat, solo/duo gameplay, tougher AI enemies that might require differe appoarch, and darker tone, are all things that sounds great for me at least. I hope they're able to pull this off and get this working. just don't rush it and make sure it's actually ready before pushing it out.
