Ghost of Yotei launches October 2

It's pretty obvious they'd want to launch at least 2 months away from that behemoth. And other giant entertainment products have launched in December. It's just a hunch
I just can't see them launching when so many people would have finished their holiday shopping. Would not be fatal to its long term success IMO, but would risk a softer launch than November or sooner.

I'm sure they'll have a gameplay deep dive at a SoP in the summer. This looks really good though.

Someone go get your mans and tell that bumbling moron to go back to his third-rate English class.

it's interesting how both Yōtei and AC Shadows essentially have the same narrative skeleton lol. Family/clan is murdered by a group of mysterious warriors, main character swears revenge and goes on a killing spree over the course of the game. Biggest difference is that one has you playing as a ninja, and a giant samurai with different paths, separately.

weird marketing... Like, do they have no confidence in the game or something? Where is our dedicated PS Direct and things like that?

I need a Rockstar-style "things to do in Ghosts of Yotei" trailer where it's showing new mechanics, teasing interesting moments, etc.

Instead we got a random blog post tweet with a short trailer that shows nothing and a launch date.
Next month there should be a SOP or Showcase. I'm guessing, like the they did with Spider-Man 2, Sony will show a gameplay preview of Ghost of Yotei

Game overall looks good. I really just want to see improvements in combat. I hope they build off the first game and add more depth to it

The quality of cutscenes has been massively improved compared to the first game. However, I feel like I'm currently playing the exact same game with Shadows.

Well the way people complain about $70 for a game, why throw out so many exclusives in a single year?

That's a good point actually.

The story setup being the same as AC Shadows down to the "Onryo" and the masks is fucking hilarious. makes me gag.
Anyway the trailer really didn't wow me for some reason. I think I miss Jin. I have a feeling in my stomach that this will be another case of a Sony sequel that doesn't hit the same way the original did. Or maybe I just have the shits.

Edit: Man, I think I just found something even more hilarious. The blog post talks about a new "gameplay mechanic" that lets you explore Atsu's past. You can see at the end of the trailer that you, depending on the context of where you are in the open world I'm guessing, get instantly teleported to some flashback where you see her as a kid. That's....the exact same "mechanic" in AC Shadows where you could sit down at specific points in the open world and meditate as Naoe to get flashback missions from the time before her village got assaulted. What a coincidence huh?

The story setups may be similar but actual execution will likely greatly vary. Hopefully to Yotei's advantage (i.e being the better execution of that setup).

I do admit tho that two on-the-surface-similar samurai games in the same year could give rise to burnout, at least in theory. in practice I doubt it; how many Soulslikes typically come out in a year and yet people eat those up like candy?

Very Underwhelming visuals, Shadows looks better from what I've seen. This has way better cutscenes though.

It's also seemingly the EXACT same story. hopefully theres some twists...

They need to show off some raw combat.

The two games have very different artstyles and I'd say as a total package Yotei looks a lot better aesthetically. Maybe Shadows is pushing more polys or some more advanced effects here and there, who knows.

Cutscene and characters look better than shadow but shadow wins almost everywhere else graphically, and probably world destruction aswell.

The plot looks extremely similar to naoe plot (which i prefer compared to the lose the was to save the honor bullshit) but i expect slightly better writing here, hopefully the real life model has absolutely nothing to say about it.

Finally a reason to use this fucking pro :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Third party game. I mean ps studios and their strategy of one aaa per year.
It's PlayStation Studios game published and funded by SIE (also a PS5 console exclusive since you can't play it anywhere else).

Btw, you rn after you were caught in a lie.

The only exclusive for a whole year. What a dry terrain playstation became.

Come on man. 6 months on pc like first one and on xbox soon or later like first one.

Ps studios are fucked. 10 studios making aaa. 1 game per studio in 6 years.

Art direction is much better than Shadows. That goes a long way. The only thing apparent that Shadows will have in its favor is weather effects, imo

Also, the cinematic camera angle of Ghost is unbelievably satisfying, especially in combat

so...do we expect better than the last one which was pretty much copy and paste Ubisoft style open world slop but with superior artstyle?
If sony sequels in this gen are anything to go by, i expect a game that improve ALMOST everything from the first game but ultimately it's gonna feel like an inferior game compared to the previous one.

Forbidden west
Ragnarock
Panderman 2

The pattern is clear.

You are an unserious poster, considering your original reply, so yeah keep moving them goal posts. 🙄

Best to just take the L and move on.

Ultra Vivid colors and a lot of flowers moving in the wind loss a bit of their novelty for me, but sure, sushi 2 is probably gonna have a more striking art style for people who like that stuff.

Combat wise, i fucking hate precanned death animations with no ragdoll like we were still in the ps1 era, and the combat in the first one was beyond basic and pretty easy after a while, unless they overhauled the whole thing, i doubt i'm gonna give much fucks about the combat in yotei, being better than shadows combat is really the lowest of achievements.

The graphics look insane. I'd like to see a bit more of the gameplay. I ended up getting platinum on Tsushima but I would like an evolution of the mechanics.

Missed opportunity for the Sony marketing team to say "Here is a new story trailer with a gameplay teaser, the game is releasing on X date and we are going to do a gameplay deep dive on Y date." Not super impressed with Sony marketing recently…

I'm not even worried about the AC Shadows narrative comparison.

Just cutscene wise you can see Yotei is a mile away in terms of execution.

AC Shadows doesn't worried at all with the "story" that is trying to tell you.

what did game announcements and reveals turned out, i miss E3 so much :(

Everything is shadow dropped, no building up hype, games never felt so sterile.
Yup,this was me watching this trailer after having seen it pop just out of the blue in my youtube recommendations:

This industry managed to completely take the excitement out of an excitement filled industry like gaming. Quite an acomplishment.

Guess game devs want us to feel as miserable as they are on twitter when they lose their shit for the smallest criticism.

As for the game itself it looks great, I'll definitely get it even though I'm not nearly as excited for it as I was for Tsushima.

Looks fantastic.

This story looks almost identical to the AC Shadows one. lol

On the surface, yeah it looks very similar. Revenge story with a bunch of bad guys wearing masks. Devil is in the details, as they say. I expect GoY to have more restraint and not spiral off into dozens of other targets though. Hopefully Yotei maintains Ghost's superior combat and gameplay as that was not a strong suit of Shadows, imo.

I loved the first game and will surely love this one, but I feel like I may just wait for it to drop on PC. Not too sure yet.
Since I bought the first game on PC, I'm going to wait for the second one to also come to PC.
I skipped on Assassins Creed Shadow so this won't have that retread feel.

To be honest Im excited and at a same time abit worried that the game will be infested with woke agenda pertaining to twisted gender ideology like for example misuse of pronouns, binary and trans stuff, since the actress who plays the protagonist if a extreme lgbt activist and leftist. I hope the game will not be influence by her agendas.

The personal politics of the actress should have no bearing on anything. When have actors had any say in story or messaging in the game they perform in?

Probably will eventually get it at a good discount. Not particularly interested in yet another personal revenge story.

Plot of the first game was good because it was more than just that, it was one man protecting his home from an entire army, while at the same time struggling with adhering to the samurai ideals and being the ghost. I liked how level-headed and calm Jin usually was despite the amount of BS that happened to him. It made the moments when he felt genuine rage really stand out.

This just seems like the usual angry girlboss slaughtering the evil men for being evil.

Well there are so many actress with good pedigree. But its strange Sony pick two extremist left and activist for Intergallactic and GOY. Just a coincidence? I hope so.

I just can't get into this due to that psycho hose-beast of an actress playing the main character

Nice to see shes shut the fuck up since attempting to dunk on the chuds though

This year is so fucking stacked.
It really is, especially for ps5 with recent games that came out like for example Indiana Jones, Split fiction, and Obscur 33 and with two more big games ,Doom dark ages and Death stranding 2 coming up. And also MGS3 remake, Ninja Gaiden 4,etc. For me, Stellar blade x Nikke DLC is also big. Just like previous PS console, the 4th and 5th year are the best when it comes to games.

Both have performed in numerous prior works so I don't see how they don't have a "good pedigree" based on their experience. Nothing strange about it.

First game also avoids the narrative dissonance of giving you lots of enemies to kill cause you're literally in war and defending your homeland from an invasion.

What justification will there be in this game for all the combat? Or will it be like AC Shadows where we're waltzing through towns slaughtering random security guards to steal loot when we're supposed to be some noble hero. I know stuff like this doesn't matter to most people but it does to me...
