I loved Ghost of Tsushima... why am I not excited for Ghost of Yotei??

GoT is in my top 5 from the PS4 generation and I have literally no interest in playing this game as I do not want to play as a female warrior. Full stop.

Don't you think they are stressing their respectful approach to the regional history and culture SPECIFICALLY to distance them pretender titles like AC:Shadows ?

GOT was an incredible game. Sure it was a bit repetitive and the graphics don't quite hold up as well but playing it for the first time and experiencing the art style and amazing combat was incredible. Was super excited for a sequel with Jin but like most modern games these days SP went with a female protagonist that absolutely no one asked for. I'm sick of playing as a female. I think the girl boss fatigue is real in gaming and Hollywood. Unfortunately, these games were made during a very woke time and now that things are starting to shift culturally (in a good way) all these games and movies are releasing to an audience that's over it. And it certainly doesn't help that the main character is older and ugly or that the actress playing her is a woke retard. All those things add up.

Imagine if Tomb Raider 1 came out today.

"What is this? A woman trying to be Indiana Jones? Get outta here with this woke stuff!"
There was a time when creating a tough, strong, stereotype-defying female lead was a bold and interesting creative choice. Today it's about the most cliche, tiresome, played out thing you can do. It's like this gen's version of the "generic bald space marine".

And no, I think the reaction would be more like the reaction to Eve from Stellar Blade lol.

Ya'll stop giving my man DonkeyPunchJr DonkeyPunchJr shit for liking well-designed men in games.....

Fuckin A that's what I'm talking about. We need virile masculine heroes like these nowadays. They're a dying breed.

I loved GoT, but I have no ounce of hype for this. I need to see raw gameplay footage to know the gameplay loop is different and more advanced than GoT. I need an Assassins Creed 1 to 2 jump in gameplay for me to even care.

I kind of regret playing Assassin's Creed Shadows... That game was so boring and I think I'm done with realistic historical settings for now... maybe I try next year again with Yotei.
100% agree. wanted to like it even looking past the strong female and look how cutting edge we are with a black guy bullshit. at the end of the day, just kind of boring. run/walk miles across a map, capture a castle, words words words, fight some dude with rinse repeat combos, and so on. over and over. tired and boring gameplay.

because deep down you know that GoT is a shallow as fuck game with pretty graphics to compensate, and Yotei looks more of the same so far.

But now it has a gender confused girl boss as the protagonist to set itself apart from its predecessor, just like every other **** AAA game from western devs.

The girl boss trope needs to die. I'm tired of it. I don't want those movies, books, games, etc. Girl boss movies don't work anymore (if they ever did) and the same is true for gaming.

yeah, if tomb raider came out today, she'd look like ellen page.

Is the witcher 4 woke now that geralt isn't the protagonist then? Is the tomb raider series woke because laura croft can manhandle men in the game? Nothing i've seem from ghost of yotei looks woke in the least and the protagonist looks like a normal samurai looking woman.

modern Tomb Raider is now woke with raiding tombs being bad, and lesbian laura crying every episode on the last show they made for her.

I feel the same way.

The first was nowhere near perfect but it was fun and interesting enough for me to platinum. Definitely a top 10 game for me from the past 5 years.

But yes, nothing about this one excites me. Admittedly I think it's a little because I completed Assassin's Creed Shadows a few months back which was very similar so I'm a little burnt out but even before that I was never really excited for Yotei.

Let's see anyway, I hope it's great and I'll eventually play it for sure but maybe not at launch.

If this were Insomniac instead of Sucker Punch, I'd be more worried about this kind of thing. But of all games, this one with its time period and location, has no business having any of the stuff that folks are attributing it with. Might as well have aliens in it. But if it does have even a hint of the bullshit we saw in Veilguard then I'll be the first to slam the game and the dev. It would be beyond bizarre and I won't defend it.

Yeah, but the actress isn't playing herself so we nothing to go by at all. Definitely need to flesh this thing out more. I expect they will do a direct on it closer to launch.

Well we just saw Santa Monica go from Bad ass Kratos fucking afrodite to Dad Kratos and whatever he is doing now in this sequel with support of sweet baby inc. Ideas.

Im just saying that at this point I personally will not give Sony studios the benefit of doubt... its all woke/modern influence shit until proven otherwise and not the other way around.

And for me the actress chosen is just one more add red flag in current Sony studios equation.

"On paper the game has everything I want. On paper it should blow my mind." is what a reviewer said about DOOM Dark Ages, and then he played it and was disappointed with the how it felt to play.

That pops in my head when I think of Yotei. On paper more Tsushima is everything I want. On paper a sexy wolf ninja game should blow my mind. Yet somehow none of the trailers have enthralled me.

Wait what? When the hell did this happen?

Ian Ryan is still the returning lead writer from Tsushima. But John Dombrow and Courtney Woods worked on Dragon: Age Veilguard, Li C. Kuo previously worked on Gotham Knights (lol) and some Ubislop, Nitai Poddar worked on The Outer Worlds (bleh), and Ariadna Martinez only has one videogame credit to her name, Horizon Forbidden West.

It's pure chaos in the making.

Furiosa bombed, Bailarina is bombing... I wonder if this people will continue to push this and burn money... I saw furiosa it wasn't a bad movie, Im sure Bailarina is not either.. but people dont care, its not what the target audience wants. Its really really bizarre still trying to push male target franchises with females girl boss leads. It wont happen. Ever.

It's because female Samurais in a historical accurate context are bullshit. That's why.
Doge-Deal-With-It-GIF-Doge-Deal-With-It-Too-Bad-Discover-Share-GIFs.gif
Samurai was a social class, and woman could be a part of it. So yes she could be a Samurai and have been trained in using the Naginata or other weapons. She could not be a retainer or lead troops or actually have fought in any wars during the time period. But a woman born into a Samurai clan who had her clan and family massacred and then travels Hokkaido (which was not part of Japan and had almost no Samurai, certainly the Ainu had none) is a good basis for a story. She would be a Ronin at best, but probably a wandering person seeking revenge at most. A ghost if you will.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel too. I haven't written it off completely, but it's got that same PlayStation Studios/Modern Audiences smell to it. I'll keep my hype level at 0 until proven otherwise. Better to expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised, rather than get hyped and let down yet again.

IDK if its just feeling burnt out on the setting, them not marketing the game well, having doubts it will be improved over part 1, and suffering from boredom of yet another she-quel. Sucker Punch deservers the hype and they never disappoint. Yet i feel meh about this game.. anyone else in the same boat?
I feel the same way and it is because the main character is a female. I will like the game a lot more once I am playing it but the female MC on this hit me wrong and killed my hype. I'm still gonna buy, it will still be great, but for some reason that took the wind out of my sails too. With as few Sony games releasing as there are, that is a real shame.

I'm guessing development started right after the heights of woke and DEI riders, so they couldn't do another male MC or they would appear sexist to the blue haired gamer.

Honestly, when given the choice I always choose female and love games with female MC like Metroid or Tomb Raider. I am not sexist. I think I am just sensing that this feels forced for DEI sake and that is why it makes me sad and discouraged. I think the female MC intentionally not being super hot also hurt. If she would have been 7/10 hot or greater I think I would have been hyped. If she had been a 9/10 or 10/10 I would be over the moon waiting for this game, but currently as it stands I fear it is woke and know the mc is not meant in any way, shape, or form, for me.

I also can't advertise this game to my friends without mentioning the female mc. If I did and they looked it up they would think I would trying to scam them into playing a woke game by leaving out the 5000 pound elephant in the room. If I do mention it, it immediately is made fun of, so basically there is no way to recommend this game to anyone without giving everyone involved a giant dose of disappointment.

This is indeed concerning. You can't have a bunch of writers of different profiles (some coming from the worst written game ever) and pretend they can do a good job this time. They won't.

Besides, I'm quite fedup with videogames needing more than 1-2 writers, when any decent novel writer can produce 100-130k words a year with a level of complexity and character development that games can't even dream of. Sheer incompetence.

Yes you are right, people now would haaaate a game featuring a hot woman with massive tits wearing a skin tight shirt and booty shorts who is portrayed as being cool and skilled but also has a fun and sexy personality

Yeah but they traveled to Japan and picked vegetables with some actual real life Ainu people. Just think how amazingly respectful and authentic it's going to be. Like a bunch of blue haired Seattle hipsters walking on eggshells as they carefully try to evade charges of cultural appropriation or insensitivity.

I also loved Ghost of Tsushima, but so far I find both the character and what they showed of the story unappealing. We will see if they will make it more interesting in the future previews, but not holding my breath.

Either way I will wait for a PC port as I want 60FPS and won't be buying PS5 Pro.

I see that as a nice money saving win. No worries about shelling out $70. Grab it for $25 down the line and get a couple comfy weekends out of it.

I mean given the distance in time it's not really connected at all to the OG other than just being a Japanese samurai game.

I doubt they can connect the stories in any meaningful way so the "sequel" is going to have to do it for me on its own merits (and I LOVED the first game)

I think it's likely because it involves a completely new character. Jin not being present at all likely dampens a lot of people's expectations. Maybe the new character is somehow linked to someone from the previous game, it's certainly possible. But as a result I think the first impressions are muddied.

I loved the first and will likely check this out at some point, but I'm in no rush. Unless the gameplay looks insanely awesome.
That's another thing that annoys me. Much like with TLOU there were lots of reasons to stick and keep developing the main character in the first game and yet instead that's done and over this.

Contrast it with say Uncharted or God of War franchises or even (god help us), Horizon.

There was easily another story to tell with Jin, and yet to all appearances we get another "girl boss" revenge story.

I played it through twice back then with the addon and had fun with it, but the sequel hasn't really interested me yet. I couldn't say exactly why. Maybe because I just had a similar game with Shadows or maybe I'm just not interested in the setting in general anymore.

For me I didnt liked GoT that much and I have no interest in this one.

I'm waaaaaaaaaaay more excited for Onimusha….unfortunately that one comes out next year.

Game look somehow worse than 3 years old crossgen horizon fw, it is gonna have a 60 frame mode on hobo ps5 aswell unless sucker punch got even lazier.

Ghost of Tsushima: Samurai protagonist with childhood trauma.

Ghost of Yotei: Samurai protagonist with childhood trauma, but with ovaries.

It looks like an unnecessary reboot.

Yeah, but you just know it's going to be performance mode with terrible Image Quality. Hopefully not but I am not super optimistic on optimization efforts now days.

We haven't even seen any gameplay yet for you to come to this conclusion. I'd say wait until they at lease show that before getting doubts.

The gaslighters can gaslight all they want and pretend like literally everything exists in a vacuum (when it supports them of course)

but at the end of the day GoY has shown 0 reason for anyone to be interested other than they took the bad man character away and made it a manly woman.

so we'll see how the state of play shakes out and if the gameplay is exciting and if they shake up the formula and really surprise the player.

but until then its completely understandable to not be excited for "same game but man is man with long hair and boobs" considering that is literally the only thing they have sold us on in the game so far for being different.
Lol Its a Sony game.. she wont have boobs. Specially since the model actress also almost dosent have them.

I bought GoT but still haven't played it. I'm tired of modern open-world games. Just can't get up the motivation to tackle it.

Yep, i never said anything about also looking good in perf mode :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Guerrilla managed to have a pretty good looking perf mode with horizon but guerrilla is far better than sp when it comes to technical prowess.

Yeh looks like more of the same with a woke female lead, first game was great as it was something new, should have just done a straight sequel if ur not gonna change much.

Marketing for it has been bad

Terrible teaser trailer on the last SoP and the reveal trailer was meh

We know nothing about the story, characters etc.

"Why we should care?", basically

I personally don't mind the main protagonist being female, and I love revenge stories so I'm fine with that too, lol. But it's apparent that a lot of people aren't fans of being pushed away from the characters that they got so familiar with. I mean, why not go the 2 character route? I feel like there may be some kind of connection somewhere, but still, I don't know if it's enough to please those that would be turned off by this.

GoT was one of the few games where I went over EVERY location, I think as a result I'm in no rush to jump into this, unless the gameplay blows me away. But we'll see. I'll definitely check it out at some point.

I've never been into playing female characters, save for one or two games like Tomb Raider. But they are an exception not a rule. There's a good chance I won't be buying Witcher 4 either. It may be seen as petty and small minded but I can live with that. It's my money and my time. I have no ill feeling towards the games and hope they deliver the experience gamers are looking for.

I loved the first game's setting, tone and combat so I'm day-one based on these factors…

But…

It's going to be funny to see how much "modern" socio-political dribble they shoehorn into the game and guise it under "historical context"…

Same.

I was hyped when I thought this was a continuation of Jin's story. As soon as I found out Jin wasn't the protagonist my hype deflated.
