Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Yup I lost 25+ lockpicks on a 4 pin lock last night 😤

Is it more difficult this time or have I just forgot how bad it is?
It's always been an odd-feeling system, which is why I just buy the unlocking spells or buy a ton of lockpicks and spam the auto button for easy xp. I was hoping they would change it in favor of the one from Elder Scrolls Online, which is probably my favorite one due to being pressure-based:

So I'm looking at doing mods on pc . . .

Ultimate tweaks, toggle ui, better hud, body type, achievement unblocker

What happens when you go from a modded achievement unblocked save and then move to a non-modded Steam deck session on the same save?

Is going from modded to not modded a problem?

Morrorwind would almost need a full scale Remake.
Would it really?

I think the only major problem with a Morrowind remake would be the dialog. Morrowind has way more text than Oblivion and voicing all of it would be expensive as hell. They'd either have to voice it all, which I don't think will ever happen, or rework it to be composed of short phrases rather than long walls of text so they can voice the dialog without spending the budget of a whole game. But that would suck because a nice chunk of Morrowind's appeal is those walls of text full of lore and cool shit.

They could also forget about voiced dialog but I don't know if that would fly nowadays.

The fuck, why are people asking for a remaster/remake of Skyrim? Let's get fucking Morrowind, but with updated combat.
To add onto the above post, the 360 and PS3 are reaching their 20th anniversaries. This potentially means we're likely to get more remakes of those games than anything earlier.

I would also want Morrowind, but right now the rumors heavily point to a Fallout 3 "Remaster" being next, especially since Bethesda commented on the idea.

Is there a way to change your face later on the game, My character looks different from the creator tool and would like to change it....

i think bethedsda needs to add more npcs ,its a graphical remaster but the low npc count makes the cities look empty. that was a limitation of that generation not todays.
Agreed they feel a little empty. It wouldn't surprise me if the idea was floated internally. But every NPC has a schedule, a place they sleep, eat, interactions with others, etc., etc., and often even ramifications if they die. Even adding one new NPC has its challenges. These aren't "filler" NPCs like in a Witcher 3 or a GTAV. Adding another dozen people to the streets of the Imperial City alone comes with a lot of challenges. They probably decided it wasn't worth the headache and would lead to changes unfaithful to the game they're trying to replicate.

Hopefully ESVI will nail it.

Also wasnt it mentioned in all of those MS leaks a couple years ago when they were in court?

Nah, to me Morrowind would not be the same with VO

Guess they could shoe horn in AI voices for cheap, I would turn them off.

Just make it HD, full controller support, achievements, better textures and call it a day. $39.99

yooo, so if you go to the edge of the map you can see the peak of Skyrim's tallest mountain, The Throat of the World, off in the distance.

This was not in the original game!

Yep, it's new added to the remaster.

An homage to you being able to see the White Gold Tower in Skyrim.

Just finished Shivering Isles. Looks gorgeous with the UE5 updates.

Also, where does it put your savedatas on PC?
In the C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\SaveGames folder all it has is a single filed called steam_autocloud.vdf but none of my actual save files seem to be there?

edit: found it, for some reason I had to delete the "OneDrive" part of the link

I hated lock picking back then, and now that I'm older I hate it even more because I just don't have the patience. The first thing I did when I reached level 10 was got the skeleton key.

Does the game use artificial intelligence? I clicked on the credits in the main menu and as I'm watching them there's a section where it lists AI programmers and other AI roles.

Oblivion Remastered Script Extender is out! Guess we might end up getting a ton of mods for this after all.

All games have AI. I guess what the credits list under those sections are the people that worked on the behavior of the NPCs and all that shit.

AI is pretty standard, especially for things like npc behavior, pathfinding, dynamic difficulty adjustment, etc. It's just how it's used that can become controversial.

So where are the DLSS features? Its missing after the patch... Went from 100 fps to like 40. I have expedition to play so hopefully they will fix it next week :D

Ok I am starting to feel the pressure....
3080(10gb piece of shit verison) or ps5 pro... or wait for disc release..... any ideas ?

Finally got around to playing it and.... fuck take me back to those late 2000's games, the moment I stepped out of the sewers I was brought right back in, there is something special that Skyrim doesn't quite get (and funnily enough I was playing Skyrim before this was announced) and tbh it looks nice on a Series S even at 30fps

Now, I was thinking builds... But no, Aragonian Stealth Archer it is!

Wait, wtf, they deliberately removed it..? I spent the last hour trying to troubleshoot this shit.. ffs :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not playing until DLSS comes back. It had weird trails with certain settings. But I had it working fine and now I don't want 20 frames less.

For those on PC, dropping shadow quality from Ultra to High nets a huge performance boost. I was at 80-85 and it jumped up to 95-100.

Cool, thanks for that tip, it should not look much worse but give good performance boost.
That being said i hope they will implent DLSS again soon.
I was always a believer that choosing settings smart is better than having a top of the line gpu and enabling everything to max is stupid. Some settings give minimal image quality improvements but cost way too much performance.

Change the Engine.ini file & add this at the bottom of the page on a new line:

For DLSS

[SystemSettings]
r.NGX.DLSS.Enable=1
r.NGX.DLSS.QualityMode=1
r.ScreenPercentage=67
r.DynamicRes.OperationMode=0

Set to read only after saving the changes.

Read this on X, haven't tried it yet.

Adding to this, this Steam Community post has all of the console commands for the upscalers so people can get what they need. The upscalers are all still in the game, but the Microsoft Store / GamePass patch basically fucked the UI and reverted graphics settings. Bethesda's Community Manager has incorrectly told everyone that the patch didn't mess with their settings, it just messed with the UI for them - I can confirm the patch 100% messes with your graphics settings and you'll need to fix them.

Keep in mind, console commands disable achievements. Use this mod to prevent that and/or re-enable achievements.

Never played the original despite growing up on Skyrim and man, the first hour or so was really a struggle to get through. But this clicked hard both visually and vibes-wise once I was just wandering around for a while and the music started hitting
Not having Jeremy Soule for ES6 could cost them greatly. The soundtracks in these games do HEAVY lifting.

I hadn't read this thread, so I stupidly updated the GP PC version and lost access to upscaling and FG. Why on earth would they pull DLSS/FSR/XeSS? Like, what dumb motherfuckers would even deploy an update like that. Does anybody know if it does that on Steam, too?
