Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ≼| OT |≽ La Belle Fantaisie

I came up with a Base Attack build for Verso that's kind of interesting, it can defeat a lot of regular enemies in one turn.

Elaborate?

I tried several different combinations including going two turns with two base attacks, but its really hard to get to even rank B on the first turn.

The way I have it set up now (around 35) the free aim shots are key. with the combination of the marking shots lumina and the one that gives you ap for hitting a marked opponent you often are refunding your own shots. You can pretty easily get off 8+ shots in the first round, more if you kill someone. Plus you add in burning shots and critical burn, versatile, energizing attack. You shoot 8 times, marking and burning, do 2 buffed basic attacks, then immediately play again with an automatic 5-8ap. Its actually really good, I rarely use skills on him unless I happen to start a round with 9ap for his heavy hitters. You can save 4 ap on turn 1 to guarantee 9 on turn 2 btw.

edit: you need the sword from Dualliste

Another thing I do sometime is mark all the opponents with free aim, then use the skill that gives ap to party members, to set the next person up for a massive move.

Follow Up is a nice second round skill too, if you're rank S

Dead ass just called out of work the rest of this week. I don't know what's wrong with me but imma go to my cousins clinic for that doctors note just in case. I have an axe to grind. Good thing enemies respawn so this should be quick.

Did I miss something or are gradient charges never explained in any way? At one point I just noticed that I had a new ui element and each character had a new skill unlocked. It seems to be a sort of shared limit break?

How are they charged? and what resets the charge? I've only been able to use 1 so far, but it totally saved my ass.

For anybody who's already in Act 2, will there be a screen where it displays that act 2 starts or is it like subtle hints?

Yes, using skills that cost AP charge it.

You learn it after you get the 5th party member.

Ok so, spinning back to when I first hit the expedition right quick. I found out the developers are freaking crazy.

Ah! Thank you! I recognized I got it right after that person was recruited, but I never noticed any explanation. Having Verso go first and often killing all trash mobs without using a skill explains why it's been charging so slowly. I'll put him third in the rotation.

Which reminds me: hot tip, incase people don't know, your surprise turn order is based solely on the order in which characters were added to the active party in the menu. Speed, and even the First Strike lumina, don't matter. You can rearrange it at will.

If, for some reason, you want characters to go exclusively by speed, equip everyone with the First Strike lumina and just run into mobs without attacking. I believe this also lets you get the jump on chromatic bosses who would normally always go first.

One side boss will be unbeatable for.most people. Pretty much the hardest boss fight ever. It tests your hand eye coordination to the max.

I finished the game and think that the ending of ACT II and ACT III could be as divisive as TLOU II.
I'm not a fan of such twists but Sandfall nailed the atmosphere and delivered an absolutely heartbreaking story.
For me, it's still a masterpiece.
My main complaint is that we make personal bonds per member, and there are very little bonding conversations between other members of the expedition. Devs need to play some classical crpgs :)

You should set HDR in the PS5 settings to "On When Supported" instead of "Always On"

Forcing HDR in games which aren't HDR compatible, for example this one, will have unpredictable results as you can see
Didn't solve the issue. Just had the same bug with settings at "On When Supported". It's not a big deal, but I remember facing the same problem when playing AC3 Remastered, although in AC it was solvable by turnkng off HDR and turnkng it back on again without leaving the game. Here in Clair Obscure the same trick didn't solve the issue, still had to restart the game.

That's odd, it almost looks like you're having an issue with Full Range vs. Limited Range but these days HDMI devices should always properly detect and set that automatically

If you want to try it, try forcing both your PS5 and your TV to Full Range or Limited Range, doesn't really matter which as long as the PS5 and TV agree

17 hours to beat act 1, and I haven't even explored any side areas yet.

God I love when a gem like this takes me much longer to beat compared to the average "time to completion"

We won't talk about how the lamp master is like 4 of those hours 😂

If I had a complaint it's the weird linear old school branching paths for levels where I know going right will definitely lead to an item and then I can go back to the main path. It makes the levels feel small.

Are you at the start of the game? Because the farther you go the bigger the levels get, and some of them are massive.

Lots of exploring to do in Act 3. Cleared Crimson Forest (very cool), encountered an optional boss that constantly heals itself for 1.4 million health, special Petank, lots more. We continue.

anyone have as link to the translated lyrics to the song in the prologue?
Man, I don't know how but I missed so much in the prologue. Somehow I missed both the balloon and the mime in the prologue after watching some streamers

pontifice sulyvahn fight No Damage done, geez.

Lume + Mayhem + Crustal Crush is a beast, Crustal crush alone was dealing 37K damage.

Total playtime 45 hours for platinum. Although I used a Maelle cheese build to beat the strongest boss. There's no fucking way I am parrying 15 attacks in 5 seconds.

The soundtrack may be the best ever in the last 25 years since FFX (based Uematsu).

I do think the story should have been fleshed out a little bit. I didn't have much attachment to the characters except Gustave somewhat. This is the only issue with the game I feel. Everything else is 10/10.

seems much shorter than i'm used to in my jrpgs from other people's time completions. but looking forward to a full 80 hour game on their next project.
seems like burn is OP and so many things go off it, don't see anything that combos with slow yet. and don't think i see a status effect for electric or earth for example yet. a lot of things they could have done more with more time/budget.

I don't want to see a full 80 hour game. We get plenty of those every year. One of my favorite things about this game is how quickly I can get through it. It's one of the top compliments everyone has about this game.

I do agree that they seemed to have mainly focused on fire and all the other elements are basically useless.

Nop, earth element and skills like crustal crush ll hit enemies like a truck, i m at beggining of act 2 hiting 37k on Bosses, in like 2 turns.

Eletric is great to build stain at the cost of 1 ap.

No, Lightning Dance is beast mode, Crustal Crush (Earth) is savage, both bigger DMG dealers than any fire spell. The strength from fire mostly comes in it's group hit and addition of burn so Wildfire is a great spell to use throughout the first half of the game but it's likely you'll never go back to it once you've synergized your pictos to have near max AP on turn one. Elemental Genesis beats everything.

As refined as the game's presentation is otherwise .. there's just something real amateur hour about the giant bold face font saying "RELATIONSHIP 2"

This, at first fire spell we're pretty useful but halfway through the game it severely gets outclassed by both Earth and Lightning spells.

Verso and Maelle deal the most damage. The other characters are just for support. They are not even close to these two.

Verso - S rank with Steele Strike and the two Light attacks. Maelle - Virtuose stance with Stendhal. They will one shot bosses with the right pictos.

Lvl 3 gradients for these two are also very powerful.

The Act 1 boss really kicked my ass. Had to switch down to easy to beat him, mainly because of the fact he has 2 phases, and that I can't straight go to phase 2 instead I have to repeatedly beat him on phase 1 just to get to the part I'm struggling with, so it kinda got tedious after a while.

Also
The hit box on his lanterns are a bit wonky, especially the lantern that because of the angle is barely visible, I'd fail that mechanic half of the time, adding to the frustration.

Question now that I'm about to start Act 2, can I still go back to the areas in ACT 1 or are those no longer available to me?
I didn't fully explore as I wanted to focus on moving the story along.

Once you get Esquie and ability to swim and later on to fly you can basically travel anywhere you want.
