Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

this game looks great at times i was skeptical at first but now i'm coming around, especially with effects and ragdolls

and large set pieces that you can casually hover around and land and you're greeted with an actual level that is even greater than doom eternal

all of it blends nicely and makes up for a proper nextgen experience. all at smooth 60 fps so props to devs, I'm sorry for bickering about ssr and all that lmao

The game has s surprising amount of physics and destruction yeah.

There is a similar game about deliveries that should be even better destruction wise, can't remember the name.

Great attention to detail - I love when the car first hits the building and it wiggles a bit before coming down.

No, I agree, TLOU 2 cutscenes and characters are still a level ahead compared to GTA VI. Seems impossible since is such an old game, but I'm watching my brother playing it again these days and the animations, fidelity and details are simply insane. GTA VI will be miles ahead on everything else, but characters, motion captures and animations will not be matched from what they shown until now IMHO.
I'm willing to be forgiving with GTA6 on that front since it's open world, and presuming all the stuff we've seen is at least in-engine. If the in-game moment-to-moment is visually on par with the trailers it'll surely be the benchmark for open world games, but I think everyone is already expecting that anyway.

Finally someone had to say it, it's such a next-gen showcase, definitely not the best looking game this gen, but the combination of the rendering prowess & the gameplay/interactivity plus RTGI really makes for an excellent package.

Path Tracing update is coming next month too, should be a very delicious treat!

I gotta say the more I play doom the more impressed I am with it. It's not like outstanding graphically where I'd wanna show it to somebody as an example of "next gen" but idk, as I get further in some things really just look good while playing. Like I think if you focused on other things and wanted to make a really good looking game with this engine you could

Game looks absolutely stunning, from lightning to the asset quality and the interactions with the enviroment and the impressive hair rendering.
Its my first Assassins Creed scince Unity.

Right now this game is the best open world game in terms of graphics. Even better than RDR2 even if some dont like to hear that

State of Play Reportedly Planned for June – Rumor

However, it likely won't be a PlayStation Showcase or something big. "Now, is that going to be a big Showcase?
I don't think so." Grubb reported the company "going back and forth" on hosting a Showcase or going with the usual State of Play.
"Sounds like they've probably settled on a State of Play. I'm not 100 percent about that aspect of it. It's probably a State of Play, but I have heard June."

what are our expectations, graphics wise?

It's not just the story, combat was terrible and the stealth is still nowhere near something like mgs5, a 10 years old game...

hmm let`s see what does Sony have to show in the graphics department:
- Death Stranding 2, very good but not outstanding outside of maybe the cutscenes. Probably the launch trailer or even some extended gameplay
- GoY. Nice art...but that`s about it. Certainly at least a new trailer.
- Wolverine.....maybe? I have hopes that Insomniac can actually do something noteworthy here. Probably still too early to show real in-game material though.
- Marathon ...yuck....in pretty much every aspect, no one cares.
- Saros....probably too early to show more.
- Intergalactic.....with what they`ve said regarding the release window probably nothing to show here, yet, either.

that`s what we know of.
Maybe they can surprise with the announcement of the next Santa Monica game...

I don`t expect to be wowed in the graphics department from anything Sony this gen anymore, let`s put it that way. This is probably gonna be another "look at what 3rd party and Indies are doing." show.

if they have managed to secure some decent 3rd party deals with great graphics [e.g. Splinter Cell Remake on UE5 similar to SH2 Remake ], maybe
otherwise, yes, not much to look forward to
this has been the absolute least exciting PS gen so far

The campaign is awful, but i had a lot of fun exploring the world and infiltrating castles. this is some of the best combat and stealth the series has seen.

sadly, the campaign structure is awful. the characters and storytelling is atrocious, and even though i forced myself to finish the story, i didnt even come close to killing all of the masked samurais.

what sucks is that the Ghosts 2 campaign is structured the same way. I am guessing they will have their own story. lets hope its better than this trash.

Game looks ugly as hell. Really don't like how it looks.
It has its moments. Outdoor levels, especially in the open world levels, look awful. Doesnt help that HDR is broken so you are forced to turn it off and play in SDR which makes things look even more dull.

I appreciate the bigger levels but come on, we had open world games last gen that looked better than this. That alone makes this a PS3 looking game.

now indoors is a completely different story. i hated how cartoony and fugly eternal looked even with rt reflections in indoor areas, but here, the interiors look gorgeous. The lighting for a lack of a better word is simply correct. There are great volumetric effects, fantastic explosions, and lots of particle effects. Maybe its the RTGI, maybe its the fact that the asset quality is way better indoors than it is outdoors, but it definitely manages to consistently impress me when im indoors.

For real. It turned into a go to the waypoint and do something game. I couldn't even figure out how to play the nigga samurai before I just stopped launching the game. I couldn't even official quit playing like I do most games I don't like, I just stopped launching it.

I was on the fence for the longest time when all the assassins creed gifs started lighting up this thread.
Hair and wind simmulation and ray tracing etc etc, all looked incredible, but I kept telling myself that its a ubi title and its going to feel bloated and overstay its welcome long before I'll ever complete it.
Additionally I tried to stay away since GOT2 drops later this year and I try to vary up my gaming experiences to keep things feeling fresh.
Glad I sat this one out for now, will grab it when its $30 or less in a few years after the dust settles

Thanks for the reminder, my UBI+ subscriptions ends in 2 days.
At least I was able to force myself to finish Act 1 a couple of weeks ago, but man, this game is such a mind-numbingly boring chore, it drains my life force, pure torture.
Yesterday, I played some Roblox in order to test my nephew's PC and had... fun. A feeling I thought was killed off for good by ShadowAss.
Lots of bad decisions from Ubisoft in the last years, it's sad.

Strong words for a company that's been cranking out Zelda, Mario and Pokémon for 30 years.

Finished DOOM The Dark Ages. Disappointed with the graphics. It looks ok, it has a style, but its clearly lagging behind what modern gaming has become.

Hopefully they go super hard with id tech 9... In about 6 years. Yeah.

Fun gameplay loop tho!

I was just playing and thinking about what a shit job they did with the quest design in this game ... its just so convoluted I have no idea who to kill and why im supposed to, where to go next, which scouts to send out, where to find objectives ....does looking out from vantage points even do anything to mark locations, etc

Then at a micro level too ..should I climb this fortress #3,734 to reach the sync point but oh shit I have to traverse another goddammit moat to get there and btw should I kill the 3 high ranked soldiers just to be able to open the chest at the top of the tower? While im sneaking around Fortress 37,693 which looks the same as 2,167 I need to hold in the right analog and hold it down for entirely too long to get see through wall vision so I don't accidentally get spotted but holding down analog the first time is not enough now to get rid of see through vision I have to hold the button for another 3 seconds ....or I can run I guess but then I might get spotted ...

This game's design and gameplay is a MESS

Well the game employs SSDO (Screen Soace Directional Occlusion), the same technique that Demon's Souls PS5 remake used, and it's not only applicable to point sources or sun/moon, but with every explosion & particle effects, it's used to the same extent as DS Remake, so essentially every effect cast soft shadows that look so good, that, combined with RTGI for many light sources is what makes it look extremely grounded & convincing almost all the time, looks very much like a pre-rendered scene at times because of the lighting & shadowing,

OMG, the new Forza Japanese track from Tokyo Drift looks amazing. The foliage reminds me of DriveClub. The lighting is godly and for some reason, the replays look better than ever. I never thought replays looked great in forza but this track is something else.

This is without ray tracing enabled. I dont know why I like the graphics in forza motorsport so much more than Forza Horizon. I just love the lighting in this game.

yamaci17 yamaci17 I don't know why but I felt like I was looking at a massive spoiler when I saw your images of Doomguy without his helmet on. Even though I know what he looked like this entire time, he's worn a helmet so long that those images felt like a spoiler.

Good for you, i gave up 20 hours in.
I made it around 7 hours lol. There's something utterly uninteresting about it's World aswell as the story and missions being the definition of mid. This is why visuals aren't everything in gaming. You can have an astounding looking game like Shadows which is as dull as dishwater. It's very strange because I usually love most Ubisoft games. AC Origins is the best AC game of the last decade imo.

Yes it's a really terribly designed game. The main culprit being that quest design and character writing are so so boring, nothing that the game asks you to do is interesting. Incredibly shallow experience despite the nice visuals

Is it fair to say that the Dark Ages is a tech showcase but one that requires a high end PC to get that effect?

Why does the game give off such a low res appearance on console when the native res numbers that DF gave fell within 1200-1700p range? Could it be that they miscalculated that and gave us the final output after upscaling? Or is this simply a problem with film grain/taa?

I dont recall DF saying its being upscaled from a lower resolution but I could've missed that part...

In my experience with other games in a similar DRS range, they look much sharper than this whereas Dark Ages appears sub 1080p on Pro in outdoor areas ..

I don't understand that viewpoint at all lol.

It's like comparing a 100 meter sprinter to a long distance runner. Sort of the same but really not at all. An apples to oranges comparison.

Time spent polishing visuals on a smaller scale game will always get 1000x more time vs visuals in an open World game. GTA VI (and really all Rockstar games) are the exception not the rule.
What don't you understand? Best visuals are best visuals. If you want to add asterisks to everything, you would need to add things like game scale, development budget, dev experience, engine, development time, platfom etc.

Brazil pixel uses an infrared device to capture the internal resolution and there is no upscaling, its simply 1440p to 1500p and your TV upscales to 4k. Hence the slightly softer look than other games that have an internal resolution of 1440p but is then reconstructed using dlss, fsr or pssr. Tv upscalers are way worse than even checkerboardibg or fsr1.

They are using TAA which is always going to be blurry in motion but I'm using dlss 4k quality and it is very soft looking. I'm guessing their post processing is adding some kind of blur effect that is making it look more low res than it is.

Btw, the ps5 pro is giving you 100% more pixels on average. Despite the 45% claims by cerny and 67% more tflops. I wonder if they can do pssr 4k balanced.
