Congrats to everyone whose actually going to get theirs ahead of the weekend :messenger_beermugs:

How do people use the joycons when docked ? Do you use the included grip ?
Reason I'm asking is, depending on the thickness of a silicone case, maybe the joycons won't be able to attach to it ?

G'dammit, there's just so many configurations with this console that it's tough trying to choose a cover/silicone skin for basic protection...
I always use the pro controller. But if the new Joycon are bigger they are quite awesome to use one in each hand. Possibly replicate the Wii's setup on Metroid Prime Corruption.

- Allowing preorders for more units than they have available.

This seems more likely to be retailer error than an intentional strategy by Nintendo, since it seems to be limited to Walmart, unless I'm misinformed. I agree with all of your other points though.

I'm not saying that the console will be poor quality or that the post release info will be overly negative but there is no doubt that their marketing strategy is to play defense more than it is to play offense.

Yeah, their entire communications strategy has powerful prevent defense vibes. They seem to be trying to carefully control the narrative around the console and run out the clock until launch.

Although, honestly, that's not necessarily at odds with the idea that they're banking on strong post-launch word of mouth, since you usually only employ a prevent defense strategy if you believe you're operating from a position of strength and your main concern is minimizing variance and risk.

Their marketing push has also heavily emphasized hands-on events with influencers and the public, which definitely is at least in part about controlling the conditions under which people experience the device, but also implies that they're not particularly worried about build quality or how the games look and play, at least not when judged by the human eye.

I think you're right that they don't like the idea of tech analysts and journalists digging into the console and games in granular detail because thanks to DLSS, the screen, et al the user experience is often going to seem a lot more impressive than the underlying tech specs would imply, and so too much advance scrutiny risks a "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain" moment.

Give me your best Mario Kart OT titles

Has anyone's shipped yet? I thought I saw someone on earlier page say theirs did.

edit: mine's been prepping to ship for days now and estimated June 10 (booo)

My Nintendo order has said "preparing" since Friday. I got an email on the same day from Walmart saying "double-check your address", but it's still in "placed" status, but unlike other orders I've seen, my shows arriving by June 7th and not the 5th.

Yep, changed from pre-ordered to preparing to ship last week. Hoping that it changes status sometime today, otherwise it says should be received on the 11th.

Lexar - up to 900 Mb/s read, up to 600 Mb/s write, does not advertise sustained write
Sandisk - Up to 880 Mb/s read, up to 650 Mb/s write, 210 Mb/s sustained write
Onn (Walmart rebranded) - Up to 800 Mb/s read, Up to 600 Mb/s write, does not advertise sustained write

Sandisk writes faster and is actually confident enough to advertise the sustained write speeds, Lexar claims to be 20 Mb/s faster in read but you can find a review on Amazon on the Sandisk card that the reviewer tested both and found the Lexar to be slower

edit: also the Nintendo branded ones don't advertise the speed on product pages but it's been reported they are - Reads at 880MB/s and Writes at 480MB/s, with its sustained write speeds peaking at 100MB
For gaming writing speed is more important.
For copying files writing is.

Basically every scene in this game looks so bloomy and foggy. Wonder if it was just how it was captured or something. Looks almost washed out.

Yeah I'm really not sure I'll have it delivered on Tuesday...

At first I placed a preorder for both the console and Donkey Kong. Seeing how it apparently meant they'd both ship together, only when the latter would be available (so in July) I cancelled the game, thinking I'd order it back after receiving the console.
After the cancellation got through, it still said my order would arrive in July, I got a little worried and was about the message them but got a mail a few days later assuring me I'd get the console on the 5th.
Now I see a lot of people who preordered from the same place saying it showed the console being in transit, while mine hasn't changed status since April...

If nothing has changed by tomorrow I'll definitely message them.

Looks like us target peasants will have to wait for it to ship on Thursday and hopefully get it on Friday. Otherwise, it's FOMO all weekend.

^ It's a walmart link dunno why it's doing that.

haven't seen this mentioned, atleast not on this page or last I dont think
I ordered one of those on Amazon about a month ago and it's coming June 5 but it's sold out everywhere else but this link. Anyone who needs microSDXC for extra storage should swoop this before supply dries up or tariffs hike prices.

Im waiting on my online gamestop order. It's been on "In progress, preparing for shipping" since last Friday. I better get my damn system on Thursday....

Gamestop said they hold store preorders for 48 hours only. Anyone here ever preorder something at Gamestop and when you went to pick it up they didn't have it?

I want to say that I saw an article that the number of S2s Nintendo had preordered for Japan through their site exceeded the number of units that they stated would be available at launch.

Also, in my experience, Nintendo is likely more to blame with pre-orders exceeding available units. Every inventory management system I have ever seen is vendor/manufacturer driven. Meaning Nintendo or Nintendo's distribution partner set the terms and pushed the volume of SKUs to Walmart's system via APIs.

Now, I don't know if this was Nintendo thinking they would have more units available at launch, Walmart listing all of the inventory they expected to receive based on terms and not those they will have warehoused for launch day, or Nintendo artificially juicing scarcity.

If this is the same story I'm thinking of, it was about the number of people who signed up to receive a chance to preorder the console, not about the number who actually preordered. Nintendo had a form on their site in all regions that basically let you enter a preorder queue, and then they've been gradually notifying people in those regional queues by email when systems become available to order through their store. In Japan, the initial signups were something ridiculous like 2.2 million people, so Nintendo issued a press release that was basically like, 'Uh, if you were hoping to get your Switch 2 through our store ... maybe you should have a backup option."
