I know it'll fall on deaf ears, but if you hate the SOPs so much then don't tune in, and if enough don't tune in, they might knock it on the head.

Then again, if they don't have any games to show that you like, the format won't change anything.

I watch for that 1 game that looks super cool to me and the 2-3 games that yeah I will try those

The remainder 75% is usually really bad for me and its not just SOP as the last few years its been almost every show from Xbox and Sony both

This is a disclaimer its just this authors personal opinion and is not telling anyone here how they should feel before feelings get hurt

That's how most shows are for these things since 2005. There's no way someone likes 80% of everything shown.......unless you play all games released.

Today's the day ladies and gents. Today's the day for disappoint !!

Yeah, that's all I hope for - one decent looking game. And there are far worse ways to spend 40 minutes.

This could easily be a win if they announce any of these:

1. RDR2 patch
2. Starfield port
3. MCC port
4. FF Tactics remaster
5. FFIX remake

Maybe they'll shadowdrop silksong for all platforms.

Dont let us down, Sony. It's the last showcase release year (25/26) before all the conversation turns to PS6 and people hold off.
I certainly could use a great showcase that creates anticipation and discussion around some new titles

They've acknowledged its existence before. That's what I mean. It's a known unknown.
They really have not.

For instance, Guerrilla has openly talked about how they have a multiplayer Horizon game in the works; but in the case of Cory Barlog at Santa Monica Studio, literally nothing has been said by or about him on the record -- although we all can make the logical assumption that he must have been working on something for the past seven years.

If he was being interviewed by anyone else I think it would be different, but this is ps.blog, so it's essentially SIE marketing department letting all the viewers know, "Hey the Corey game is on the way".

Yep, once E3 ended we got fucked, all this direct/state of shit are bad, Nintendo ones are the worst with that moronic narration all over the video, Summer Fest and TGA are just a product advertisement with some game here and there, the age of hype announcements has ended with E3.

I remember gamers complaining about E3 but for the life of me I can't remember why, because it sucks so bad now.

Turning on the YouTube or whatever for 3 days of nonstop conferences and game announcements was comfy as fuck and now it's just totally soulless and horrible.

These guys get it. Shutting down E3 was horrible for this industry.

E3 was responsible for:
(1) Mainstream media attention on gaming.
(2) All major console manufacturers, publishers, and developers bringing their A game because they knew they had to fight for space and attention. There was no space for lazy shit.
(3) It was convenient to watch because it was all over the course of five days, instead of all these streams over the course of like 3 months that you need a fucking spreadsheet to keep track of.
(4) The memes. My god, the memes.

OR It is counter-programing for Switch 2s launch and it is an absolute banger.
Why should they counter the switch 2? Sony and Nintendo multiple times said they are not considering each other as competitor and they also don't need to, since one is a powerful home console, the other one more intended for portable play.

I miss E3 especially the booths, model girls, cosplayers, demo and extravagant announcements and surprises.

Considering how expensive the Switch 2 and it's games are and, based on the cost of the PS5 Pro, how expensive the PS6 and it's games will be, they probably SHOULD start considering each other competitors, because they're going to be competing for people's entertainment budgets which are going to get slimmer because of these increased prices.

No one complained about it until Sony skipped it. Then everyone argued it was archaic and not needed. Journalists had some valid complaints about opening it to the public, but that doesn't affect viewers much.

To be fair, Nintendo switched to a Direct video, but they were on the E3 showfloor with one of the biggest spaces for years still at that point and 3 days of Treehouse coverage so they definitely weren't skipping it.

So you don't want anything new huh?? No wonder gaming is in the state it is.

"This generation is just remaster and remakes!"

But also "all I want is remasters and remakes!"

Am I totally misremembering things? Wasn't Nintendo the first console manufacturer to start skipping E3?

I laid it out. They switched their main event to an hour long video, but then immediately after had 3 days of showfloor coverage live which is more than anyone. Developer interviews, further reveals, live demos, all day long for 3 days for several years after Sony left.

Nintendo might start to feel like this, but Sony shouldn't. Most people who want to buy a Switch are interested at least sometimes in the portable aspect and that is just one thing the PlayStation 5 cannot give them.

My take:
1. Remaster 1
2. Remaster 2
3. Remake 3
4. HD collection 4
5. etc...

But really it's just weird to me there's so much desire for what was, and not for something new, fresh and exciting.

Ports, remasters, a remake and a patch? My god...

You'll get at least something from Ghost and Death Stranding...two actual new games.

I'm surprised they aren't doing some long presentation of ghosts. It's Sony's big game this year.
They probably are, in a few weeks, who knows.

this put gaming into a perspective, a lot of pp ( me included ) would prefer to play the good old games remade then the modern slop that we get now.

I mean, if you read my full post, it's a joke about how fanboys spin mundane scheduling details to match their priors. So thanks for proving my point, I guess.

Anyway, I think the real reason why Sony picked this date in particular for their June show is because they have marketing deals in place that give them first rights to reveal one or more titles that we're going to hear more about at SGF or one of the other presentations this week (probably Resident Evil and/or Final Fantasy Tactics). That actually bodes well for at least one big reveal today.
This is -at least- 5th year in a row that they have a State of Play around a week or so away from their Business Segments Meetings, where they detail their plans and strategy to their investors for the FY that started a bit before.

Sometimes they announced some stuff there that later was going to appear in that meeting, either if it's the announcement of a first party game, 3rd party marketing deals, 3rd party exclusives of some kind or even some acquisition.

But in any case, that late May/early June State of Play/Showcase has been there every year because it's a tradition that goes back to the E3 days. Now they do spread game announcements across the year in different events or just posting them in internet a random day to avoid overshadowing, but back in the past there was the tradition of announcing most of the important stuff at E3.

But yes, even if they spread the announcements across the year it's fair to expect at least one first party reveal (as could be the GoW spinoff) and at least a handful important third party ones (as could be RE9 or FF Tactics) at their event. In addition to standard trailers of already known titles 1st and (with marketing deal) 3rd party titles, specially the ones to be released in the next 9-12 months or so.

I really hope this is good. The only fun playstation direct I remember having recently was ironically the xbox one where they showed Ninja Gaiden 4 and Doom Dark Ages which were multiplat lol.

JUST SHOW SOME NON-INDIE NON-GAAS VIDEOGAMES SONY. THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO. FUCKING VIDEOGAMES.

Don't expect anything since most of Sony's SOP have sucked. I think they've had one good one since this gen has started. They are delivering in all the other ways I need them to so I don't care really.

I really hope we something from SHf soon.

This trailer was amazing but I need to see some gameplay.

HINAKO!

I gotta say whatever Japanese VA they have during the trailer makes me want to play in Japanese, she delivers those lines so strongly I couldn't help but be sucked in.

The game takes place in Japan and characters are Japanese, of course I'm gonna play with Japanese voice.

I miss the old Sony E3 presentations, where they were showing smash after smash and hype was through the roof.
Nowadays it's just meh!... Very low expectations.

Be prepared.

I have a feeling this will be the greatest gaming presentation in history. Just a gut feeling.

Looking forward to see Bloodborne remake. Only a few hours to go.

Get hyped.
