GamingTech - A Very Poor LCD Display / No Real HDR Support Switch 2 HDR, Tested On Display And In Docking Mode

ill be docked %100 of the time, so bought it.
but yeah definitely wait for oled or at least try current one before buying, if you are portable.
its pretty difficult to adjust to after years of oled.

Nintendo fanboys and Apple fanboys truly are the same lol.

This thread reminds me of that studio monitor apple claimed was as good as a $30k Sony professional mastering display…until people made the actual measurements that (unsurprisingly) showed otherwise. The cult just couldn't handle the truth. Similar story here.

Pro tip for the Nintendo hardcore. Spend more time playing with the $450 toy and $80 game you just bought, and less time posting here "owning the haters" and trying to justify your purchase to yourselves. It just makes you look sad.

I dont think users saying the screen is fine is anywhere close to what you are saying. I am well aware Nintendo skip on the latest and greatest tech for their hardware.

They do this then run circles around every other publisher for their consistent quality of games.

The screen looks easily as good as my rog ally to my old eyes. Im more than happy.

What's the battery size and how fast does it charge ?

It's a ~20Wh battery (so rather small) and it does not fast charge afaik, not sure about the actual wattage it charges at, but I imagine it would be around 18W, will find out eventually when I can order one.

Not sure how this is related, but I enjoy the battery discussion, so there you go.

This is like CNN and Fox pointing the finger at each other. Reality is somewhere in between both stories.

The worst is hearing people call game systems toys, compared to other game systems. What a complete joke.

Switch 2 has a better screen than my 3070 12th gen intel laptop. Which I knew cheaped out on the screen when I got it for $999 a few black fridays ago. My laptop is a toy confirmed because another device has a better screen and it cost the same as two future Switch 2...I guess?

I think he's an elaborate troll. No matter how much he says he's got brain damage(retarded). It seems deliberate and I am surprised he's allowed to get away with it on the forum. It does a disservice to the real retarded members on the forum.

Joke aside, as I said, how he is allowed to get away with it, without being banned is beyond me. He is also super cringe

Every game I have tried is like Doom TDA on the switch 2 and that's while docked. Every game has a slightly washed out look because the black levels are raised. Its not ideal, but you can mismatch the signals to make the blacks darker and then increase the brightness so they don't crush so much. Would never normally do this as typically you would have to change this on a per game basis because the blacks will be correct in some games as to why I wouldn't do this for Doom. However, every game is the same here and I have tried about 10 so far. This needs an update.

As someone who loves HDR, and OLEDs, I will easily/readily admit the standard is pretty fucked when it comes to intuitive-ness. It's the most ridiculous setup/calibration process I've ever dealt with, correct TV/Monitor settings for HDR and SDR content every time I get a new device.

Absolutely insane you need to go through dozens and dozens of settings to correct the displays, even high end ones. Sure you don't have to, but if you care about accuracy the format is pretty terrible in making that user-friendly. It's crazy there's almost no standard from one game to the next, from one piece of hardware to the next, despite everything saying it's HDR.

I feel like this was never a big issue for me at all prior to HDR. Sure on SDR displays you might need to adjust brightness/contrast and one or two other things, but not to the extent HDR displays need fixing (especially when you get to the advanced options that open dozens more tweaks). It can take hours for me to get a new HDR display to the best it can be universally - not just for one piece of content, but for a multitude.

There's this thing called the "ignore" button. If they bother you that much just hit that button and move on with life.

Has anyone compare the Switch 2 lcd to the Portal lcd? The portal has a high quality or a good one no?

Portal has similar motion clarity issues, commonly see people who jump from portal to OLED Deck comment on how clearer motion detail is on OLED Deck.

Compared to portal, Switch 2 is unanimously said to be better.

Ok. What about HDR does the portal have it? What about colors? Black level?

No HDR, so its a wash there, as Switch 2 HDR is not good at al. Another bonus of OLED Deck, actually has good HDR.

Black level - both are LCD so neither wins against OLED once again, neither get great marks for black levels. But Switch 2 is laminated so it will appear to have better blacks afaik. Most people have said the laminated screen on the Switch 2 helps a lot with the blacks. And the colors on the Switch 2 if anything are oversaturated, so it's likely better there. Color vibrancy is one of the devices strengths.

Don't know this guy, but far more reliable sources (Digital Foundry) said its pretty impressive for a LCD display, so I guess this guy is just sad that we didn't get an OLED model and try to get more clicks by speaking negatively about it.

Dude specializes in HDR unlike DF

This German guy is a the best source for HDR tests and settings of PS5 games. He's worth following.
It's mostly his preferences and for his LG OLED TV.
it not really good for anything else.

I think it is only happening because hardcore Nintendo fans kept shouting it is on the level of ps4 Pro based on cherry picked screenshots.

The reality is that without the DLSS, it would just be a Switch 1 pro.

What does that even mean a switch 1 pro? This is clearly a new device.

The switch 2's screen is not good. The black levels are quite poor. I was playing in bed last night and it was pretty terrible 😞
Nintendo know that in a couple of years at most they can rinse all the owners who are pretending it's a good screen for an OLED version. Whatever else they may be, Nintendo ain't stupid.

Doesn't look good on my LG OLED. BotW in particular. It looks great when I don't turn on HDR. Weird.
Some games just weren't built with HDR in mind. And adding a fake HDR after without the proper tone mapping when it wasn't designed that way from the get-go tends to suffer.

RDR2 is like this. Game came out (and was developed) before the HDR boom really took off, and their HDR modes look much worse and washed out compared to it being off. Colors are more rich and pop without. Funny thing is, it looks more HDR with it off than on.

What do you have? The gaming tech guy said HDR wins vs SDR on his LG G4 but it is nothing to shout about, I am seeing the same on my LG C9. BotW has raised black levels for some reason…

I haven't set mine up yet, but it sounds like maybe the min and Max calibration is off. Try turning HDR back on and recalibrating it on your tv

HDR seems fine everywhere else including PS5. Don't really want to go mucking around with it if it is just one device with an issue.

LG C1. BoTW seems overly bright.

Yup, BotW and TotK seem to have been retro fitted with something like AutoHDR.

Don't TV settings have to be redone depending on the source/input? If you changed setting for PS5 HDR, it doesn't mean those settings carry over to Switch 2 HDR, at least that wasn't the case on my Samsung TV with PS5, Xbox and PC HDR.

I mean recalibrate the switch consoles HDR settings, something tells me it is trying to output HDR between 300 and 500 instead of 0 and 1,000

I've got the exact same LG OLED TV that he has. It's perfect for me. :messenger_beaming:

I haven't seen options to make changes based on each input. I can change the input's name and type but that's about it.

Yeah, I did that a couple of times. Doesn't seem to make a lot of difference for me.

18 watt is literally dogshit tbh

you literally could not have taken a worse picture to make your point
Meh, I took it in all of 2 seconds. I wasnt posting for resolution comparison, just color levels. has a slight Halo effect due to low lighting but you can clearly see the colors are great and blacks are fine.

Sometimes you guys just need anything to find funny. 🤷‍♂️

I got to play with it today at a gym buddy's place. I was able to compare it to the Switch OLED, Steam deck OLED, and the Legion go. The screen size is great and Tears of the Kingdom runs VERY smooth on the S2 in handheld with the upgrade (almost shocking to me) ... but if anyone tells you the S2 screen compares or comes anywhere close to an OLED, they are a liar. If you have questions let me know.

Infact they cried so much the mods removed my ability to make threads
Now I got a warning for talking bad about the Switch 2. Wow this place is nuts and I guess freedom of expression is not welcome anymore. The "mod team" has an official warning against me. Insane.

Nintendo be doing their Jedi mind tricks shit on any and all in the media again:

"This Switch 2 screen is just as good as an OLED."

....."...This...screen...is just as good...as an OLED....."

Yeah, first people that will trash it once the OLED revision is out.

In general you can see who got Nintendo review guidelines (maybe some PR swag) as the comparison is always just or mostly focused on OG Switch vs Switch 2. The Mariko and especially the OLED revisions do not seem to exist ;).

One thing you may want to try is to disable HDR in handheld mode. It will not fix everything, but it makes the picture considerably less washed out.

Dude, you're winning the battle against GigaBowser GigaBowser .

Now you just need to survive long enough to win the war.

You could always wait until there's an emulator.
They're struggling to emulate PS4 that is considerably less complex than Switch 2 and has a decade old tech compared to it and you expect them to emulate Switch 2 anytime soon? LOL Switch 2 HDR looks great on my TV btw,
