Do you think that GTA 6 is going meet your expectations?

In terms of graphics, the amount of NPCs, AI behavior, scale and performance… Do you think that GTA6 is going to meet your expectations on consoles? or is going to held back by the current gen tech?

I think part of GTA 6 is problem is going to be the fact that GTA 5 is still incredibly popular, it received a remaster and a re-releases, it's online mode is still popular as well.

So I do think that there's going to be a decently large subset of players who feel like the game may not have changed enough from GTA 5. But I think that's only going to happen if the game play feels extremely similar. GTA 3 and 4 were both very different from one another. GTA 5 was also very different from GTA 4.

So if GTA 6 just feels like a more dense, next Gen reskin of GTA 5 set in vice City - I think people are going to walk away disappointed at least somewhat.

Now don't take me saying this as I expected the above to happen. I have no idea what to expect.

I have no expectations honestly.

Not even sure I will get this day 1, depends on what the PS5 Pro enhancements are. It needs to be 60fps locked on the Pro for me to be willing to take a look.

But then there are the inevitable re-releases/remasters for the next decade. Plus all the focus on GTA Online.

So no rush really, my backlog is large enough to keep my occupied for awhile. Still have not played Red Dead Redemption 2 yet.
 
I expect it to top the charts but also massively underperform in sales relative to gta5. Just a hunch. As far as the game itself, it will be shit like all Rockstar games

Yes you will.

Everyone will. Even if they don't have something to play it on.

It WILL be the biggest, most expensive, entertainment release of ALL TIME. No one will NOT want to be there the day it releases.

It is going to be an absolute mindblowing cultural phenomenon (which will sadly, probably be the last for most of us).
 
If it's not a massively improved sequel in gameplay quality (not graphics, not ai, not whatever), then it will be disappointing yes.

I couldn't care less. I have too many games to play and I would rather wait for the PC version like i did with GTA 5. I even got the PC version for $20-30 or something.
 
RDR2 is still one of the most alive worlds and the most beautiful games I have ever seen, I imagine this will set a new bar for video games.

This will be a cultural tent pole game of the generation (or two or three)

It will PRINT money, I have no reason to doubt Rockstar.

If they manage to have realistic reaction for npcs, no matter what they are doing and adeguate to what is happening, every other games with npcs is gonna age 20 years all of a sudden.

The patents suggest that is on of their focus but it sound too good to be true.


Imagine all the npcs in this beach realistically stopping what they are doing and not immediately snapping into a run animation when you enter the beach and start shooting, that would be a couple of generation better than what we have, yes even rdr2 or kc2.

Only rockstar and 2 billion budget can achieve that, the amount of work must be titanic.

Am really not much a fan of drugs / senseless violence / prostitution whatever.

I only put 90 hours into GTA 5, far below 3000+ hours like you might expect. I played it once, I had what small fun there was, and never touched it again for years.
The last time I played GTA 5 was May 2024, and only because a friend of mine wanted to play it.
 
Yes since the graphics are way better than V, characters seems more interesting than Vs and Vice City is the best GTA city out of the three.

All good man. Every game isn't for everyone. Even the bigguns.
 
The graphics, animation, dialogues etc everything will be just insane quality.

But I highly doubt it is going to be as fun as Arcadey Vice City, or how limited/expansive the mission structure is going to be. Realistic GTAs like GTA5 was not fun but RDR2 was.
They essentially have to reinvent GTA model which I doubt they will be able to do compared to how insane the graphics will be.

It will meet my expectations, every other GTA game has so don't see why this wouldn't.

Rockstar has the budget to make amazing games from a tech standpoint, just look at GTA 5 and RDR2 compared to todays games. The current gen tech has never held them back.

Yeah, all those different npcs doing different things is wildly impressive but if their animations\ai is not on par, it immediately become way less impressive.

You can definitely brute force the first part woth enough artists, money and time, making a shitton of different npcs doing different things but you can't brute force ai and reactionary animations, you have to have wizards devs to solve that.

Yes. Because its targeting 30fps instead of sacrificing everything in the game to hit 60fps. Its going to be a showcase for fidelity over framerate.
 
We shall see but the leaks and trailers have me feeling good about it. Before the leaks I was not even interested because I thought GTA was lost to online but I like the setting and the Bonnie and Clyde theme. Online will be there but it seems that they didn't forget about SP. The tone of the game also seems like a happy medium between IV and V which is good.
 
I think the open world will be as entertaining as expected.

The story however I have low expectations for. They will not touch any controversial subjects out of fear of being cancelled. At most they will just poke fun at Hillary hating rednecks who listen to Alex Jones.

Not interested. The single player in GTA5 was ok in short bursts, but it took me forever to complete. Not itching for more of that personally. I also thought the world felt really empty, which makes sense in hindsight since the online mode was the priority. I'm expect GTA6 to be the same.

That's a you problem. I played it twice and never got bored, not one single time. Each time I played it was enthralled and couldn't put it down. In other words, different strokes. But I think RDR2 was Rockstar's best game.

Edit: To answer the OP's question: I think the game will do monster numbers. I don't think GTAV will be a hindrance to it, especially since people are obviously ready to move on from it. The hype for VI hasn't died down at all either. I feel many people are foaming at the mouth to get at this game. Now, when it comes to how it performs critically, I do think they need to shake somethings up and make the world feel alive like it did in RDR2, update the gameplay so it feels more like a roleplayers dream like: if they give me an updated version of the context menu from RDR2, but with more options do rob people or take them hostage or something that I couldn't do in GTAV, then it will probably be lauded as good. Time will tell as we don't really know what changes will be made from GTAV (or to a further extent, RDR2).

Even being wizards doesn't overcome the hardware limitations… But, will see. If the people ends up receiving less than they showed in those trailers is going to be a shitstorm and a lot of downgrade threads and news.
 
No idea, but if anyone can, it's them. It's not graphics and other technical aspects I'm "worried" about when it comes to R*.

Before RDR2, Rockstar was not considered tech wizards in the graphics/performance conversation… Even RDR2 in the PS4/One base systems was far from flawless… That's why i think that some people have their expectations too high in those departments for the current gen machines.

Absolutely a me problem. I foolishly expected to have fun before hour 12. I'm clearly broken. I just couldn't get emotionally attached to my horse for the second time.

It has a lot of tedious gameplay mechanics, repetitive missions (ride here, shoot random people, ride back), it leans too hard into realism at times, etc.
I'm sure the characters are deep and tragic, but if I'm bored before I even care about them, something's off.

Ai routines are not strictly related to hardwares tho.

Just look gta3\4 having much better npcs ai than cyberpunk or old games like fear or old halos having better enemy ai than most modern games.

There is surely a limit that you can hit, but during the past 15 years, ai have stagnated because of lazy devs, not lack of hardware.

If a shitty jaguar cpu can do high level npcs stuff in the gta or even some ubisoft games, i have no doubt a much powerfull cpu is gonna help immensely, but i never thought jaguar was the limiting factor for the reason i explained early.

If rockstar under-deliver, they are gonna cover their ass by saying "we only showed you incredible ncps density and variety, we never spoke about ai and animations".

The patents are technically leaked, those are not info that gamers should be aware of.

It is a you problem. Many people loved the game and you didn't like it. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. You have your own likes and dislikes and you didn't like it. That's fair, but many did like it, myself included.

I do. It will be a totally blah game that I don't give two shits about. It will be hugely successful, I just won't care.
 
With an infinite budget, and a mega dev with a lot of talent, why won't it? If there's one dev that pushes the boundaries, its Rockstar. The problem is the 30fps.
