Do you think GTA 6 will have a 60 fps mode?

Will GTAVI have a 60 fps mode?

If not, then no console sale from me.

Quality & Performance modes are standard on consoles now (even for open world games), so there's really no excuse.

Especially not for a 2026 game that might launch at a higher base price than other games.

CPU is where your fps may suffer as the XSS - PS5 Pro use the same CPU despite some minor tweaks.

I know thats why i explicitly state GPU side.
The CPU side no one knows how much overhead they have to actually push 60fps.

The answer is none unfortunately. The Ryzen 5 3600-alike chip struggles to hit 60fps in Helldivers 2 when it all kicks off, let alone this game which will have world simulation that is essentially incomparable in a third person game.

Makes sense. Given all that's going on in this game, I'd expect there is 0 chance of 30fps, but would be presently surprised if they were able to squeeze it in.

It is impossible with current console cpu:s. They can not handle that much simulation - they are using old, low performance pc parts.

No chance for a 60fps mode imo

It would be awesome but i don't see it how they can pull this off. Imagine driving your car thru the beach hitting everyone and everything, the mayhem..

Locked 60 FPS no, but a way to raise the FPS limit and pair down visuals beyond the default 30FPS locked state maybe

I'm aiming for PS5 Pro at 40FPS on a 120hz VRR display personally

I hope not. Push the visuals to the absolute max. Don't compromise at all to offer some arbitrary frame rate target for complainers. If you want 60fps, you'll get it later on PC and probably the PS6 version.

If the contention for frame time is more to do w/ logic than visuals (CPU more than GPU), then it's better they limit the fps here temporarily & make the simulation, dynamics & fundamentals of the game design as advanced as possible up front.

60fps can come on PC & Next-Gen, but if they go 60fps out of the gate, the core functionality may be forever-limited; in such a case they're unlikely to make major changes to simulation beyond perhaps a little traffic/npc density when it comes to future editions, with the rest just being window dressing.

I'll take a technically great game that's 30/40 fps now and that's gonna be 60fps in 1-2yrs vs a game that's 60fps up front but forever hamstrung at its heart by overly-optimistic frame time targets out of the gate. We'll likely be knocking on 2040 -- well into the 'PS7' -- before we get another GTA and I'd like the fundamentals of this game world to be the best they can be.

A 40fps mode on Pro is my only hope as it gives a surprising bump in fluidity, but 60fps is a big ask without negatively effecting the scope of a game that has this much going on.

I couldn't see it happening even on PS5 Pro. Rockstar don't typically do performance modes when they release a new game, they instead go for maximum fidelity or resolution (in the case of the One X with RDR2). GTA 6 looks to be doing a lot of crazy stuff on the CPU side.

I mean the game is gonna have to run on Series S.

Use Series S settings on XSX/PS5 and im sure they could get to 60 on the GPU side.
Rockstar ain't gimping a billion dollar game for a console that nobody cares about.

Series S owners will be treated to 900p, a steady 20fps and low graphical settings. Take it or leave it.

My feeling is that there won't be a 60fps mode, at least at launch.

And it's because everything points to the RTGI+Reflections+TOD and global lighting system being the baseline, and there isn't an alternative (as is the case in AC:S, for example).

So, a 60fps mode "only on PS5 Pro"? I don't remember any game that has a 60fps mode on Pro and not on base consoles (PS5/XSX).

XSS specs at 60fps? We'd have to consider the downgrade and whether it would be worth it. Personally, I'd like to play the game at its best visual level and stability.

In the end, I have the feeling that Rockstar wants the best visual experience and stability in such a complex and massive game. On PS5 Pro, they'll be betting like they did on XBO X: resolution and better image quality... The 60fps will be to resell the game on Next Gen.

That's your best hope and I don't think it is too outlandish or unreasonable to ask for it, but then this is Rockstar.

Depends on if GTA6 is CPU intensive, which it looks like it is.

The CPU is responsible for managing and executing tasks that aren't primarily related to graphics, including game logic, physics calculations, AI, and processing player input.

The PS5, XBSX and XBSS all have the same Zen2 CPU at around the same clocks. If GTA6 is CPU intensive, it'll affect all 3 consoles in the same way. So using the XBSS settings may be of no help for the PS5/XBSX.
Ray tracing in particular is quite CPU heavy as well though, you can have a big ass RT GPU in your system but if your CPU isn't able to keep up, performance will be subpar despite the GPU being responsible for most of the heavy lifting.
Couple that with Rockstar's usually CPU heavy tasks in their games like Euphoria physics and AI scripting and 60fps sounds very unlikely on consoles.

I'll be pleasantly amazed if they manage to pull it off even if just on the PS5 Pro.

I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of possibility, it will definitely look pretty ugly though.

I'll settle for the 40/120

Again, it all depends on CPU load.
If you're CPU bound, upscalers like DLSS and PSSR literally don't do shit, they can even run worse than native res since they add latency...

People talking about PSSR and the PS5 Pro's beefier GPU like they're the magic bullet that is going to save GTA 6's performance is driving me insane.

Until we know how CPU heavy the game is we can only speculate, but history tells us we should be on the cautious side of things and expect Rockstar to go all out on hammering that CPU with game logic ffs...

All I'm trying to say is, please try to keep your expectations in check. Better to be pleasantly suprised rather than expecting a performance mode and then come here after the game is released and begin screenching like idiots about how unoptimized it is for not having a performance mode.

I have a Pro and really hoping for 40fps in 120hz mode but I'm completely down to experience it day 1 @ 30fps. I wouldn't normally accept 30fps but for GTA, I'll make an exception.

no ps5 sku for rdr2 soooooooooooo

Soooooo, maybe no PS pro higher framerate mode. Maybe since they are not worried about framerate upgrades for the current consoles, they will simply improve draw distance, aliasing, etc for the Pro instead of trying to make it run at 60 fps on that weak cpu. That will be the carrot that will get people to double dip on PC.

I hope I am wrong as a Pro owner. My OLED no likey 30 fps but I am buying regardless.
