Mario Kart World VS Sonic Racing Cross World

I'll play

  • Mario Kart World

  • Sonic Racing Cross World

  • Fuck Mario, fuck Sonic, fuck the planet

  • Why not both ? :ugly kid gif:

Tried switching controls to be like the old Sonic racing games. It just doesn't feel right because tricks are now tied to left stick instead of right stick. Might have to just get used to the default and use auto acceleration.

I've turned off the driving aids and it now feels actuall better to play.
There's still quite a bit of unpredicability in the race (but that's par for the course with these type of games), and the sound design is baffling to say the least. But the new courses have a really fun layout with different routes going on road or sea or air, really cool.
The netcode is also excellent.

Overall nice package, i had my gripes with the first beta but they addressed the 2 biggest problems i had, which were controls and too much visual noise over powerups. Definite improvement there.

Turned off the assistance immediately and never used it. Don't use this shit. Don't use anything that helps you... Because it doesn't.

Quite certain that this is a much more "skill based" than Mario Kart World.

It is, If you know the track drift, how to get draft and use defensive skills you ll pretty much finish the race at the top 3

I swear drifting is bugged. once every couple races i wont turn at all and I drive straight into a wall. Not that walls aren't being smashed into constantly. Boost boards seem to be the only vehicle capable of turning.

Disable drive assist, is enabled by defaut, also use dynamic câmera, i have zero problems with drift on my end but this may help you.

Best Sellers (pre orders) Playstation Store:

#13 Sonic Crossworlds Deluxe Edition

The open beta boosted the sales...

Yeah it's fun and it actually runs and looks okay on Switch, in docked at least. Looks pretty bad in handheld. I'll wait for Switch 2 and a sale most likely

Too bad for the handheld mode.
It runs well on the Deck though.

A lot of stuff I'll just get on Deck if the Switch version is bad but my kids will want to do split screen multiplayer with me on this one, better to just wait for the premium version.

It is a lot of fun though, not as polished as MKW but way better progression and it was nice to actually be in first place for longer than 5 seconds because I was playing well and not getting ganked by 25 items

Got around to trying Crossworlds and I miss Sumo Digital without the weight of Sonic bloat. The tracks are incredibly generic, the handling is subpar, sense of speed isn't there, and the roster is repulsive. I am going to get around to playing some Garfield Furious Racing instead. It is not good but I own it and there is some fun to be had.

Loveing the demo and the fact SEGA got the AM boys in the case really shows in this. Noone makes a better racer than the SEGA Japan Arcade gang
Up Your's !!! Mario Kart LOL

I could do without the characters almost constantly saying something when they pick something up, I find it quite annoying. It's less annoying when I set the voices to Japanese though.

Another? There are like 7 kart game in existence. It's pretty low number compared to other genre no?
This is more about the same game being released in different forms rather than being from the same genre. You could call a Mario Kart clone a genre, but even Soulslikes strive for more. I honestly couldn't see any difference from Mario Kart 8 aside from the characters. Even years ago, South Park Rally gave me the exact same feeling as Mario Kart 8.
Plus, Mario Kart and Crash Team are NOT on PC, and how many are crossplay? So...
Yes, that's its biggest advantage, and it could find success through that.

I agree some tracks, while very fun tgo drive in, are artistically incredibly generic.
The mall and the museum ones are just... there. Without a theme or any memorable visual feature.

I believe two things can be true at the same time.

1.) Mario kart world is a better game overall
2.) traditional kart racing is more fun than Mario kart worlds "forza horizon" style. And thus Sonic racing will likely be more fun in quick pick up and play sessions with others and doing a quick 3 lap race.

**Sega still needs to keep adjusting the physics and handling of the karts and flying**

**nintendo needs to lay out a road map of MKW and what they hope to accomplish. **

I also said this previously and stand by it.

1.) MK8D is greatest kart racer of all time
2.) Sonic racing all stars or transformed is the second best. Sumo digital did great work with Sega on those titles.

I can see disliking it, but I kind of like it. Reminds me of JRPGs during fights where every body is saying something all at once as they do things.

It seems kinda fun, comparable to ASR. But coming from MKW it feels a generation behind on Switch.

Sound design is atrocious too compared to MKW. Might be a deep sale purchase.

Lol, some of you guys, dude comparing MKW SW2 with Sonic on SW1 the weakest hardware on the market and says that game feels a generation behind , news flash for you, Switch one is two generation behind

Fair point but there is no S2 version at the moment and no timeline for it, so what are you supposed to do if you play on Switch? It's only fair to say one looks really worse than the other at the moment (and I would argue it also looks worse than MK8 on Switch).

The Digital version will be released before 2026, the physical after.

oh wow, I just played the Switch 2 version of the network test... my god...
insanely ugly (way sub 1080p, blurry flickery mess), and only 30fps.

so at least on Switch 2, I'd not touch this with a 10 foot pole...

edit: wait. this test is the Switch 1 version? wtf? lol.
ok that explains why it looks like pure garbage.

Wonder if this has to do with the whole devkits situation.

Oh, are people here about to start the Soulslike-gatekeeping discussion for Arcade Kart Racing? I have my popcorn ready if so.

??? You must mean Power Drift clones as it predates the first Mario Kart by four years.

Yup, Mario Kart just mixed Power Drift with power ups (invented by games like Pac man or sabrewulf).

The Nintendo revisionism is exhausting 😛

Isn't the whole power-up and battle-style kart racing thing quite different from this? I can't call games that actually improve the gameplay or add notable features clones. If we think that way, then all racing games would just be copies of the very first one, whichever that was.

By the way, I played Sonic Crossworld a bit more on PC—the online 4-player team mode was nice, and I liked the maps too. It doesn't bring dramatic changes to the whole kart racing concept, but I've started to really enjoy the in-race map transformations and longer flying sections.

Kart racing clones are more like cheap knock-offs, whereas Soulslikes involve a whole different level of effort—and I really enjoy many of them. I wouldn't want to start a new front here:messenger_grinning_sweat:

It's still playable now but Super Sonic Speed never unlocked for me. Hmmm. I do have Joker and his car though.

Looking at that roster it seems there will be a very nice amount of different characters and I'm really digging the vehicle customization here too.

"I've been told that Sonic Racing: CrossWorld Deluxe Keys are nearly out of stock. There may be errors when trying to purchase if it happens (could take hours for PlanetPlay to restock if it goes out. Sale ends at 11:59 PM PT)"
(wario 64 about the Deluxe Edition discount)

Crossworlds is still climbing the Playsation Store best sellers.
(it will probably beat Sonic Frontiers)

Decided to install Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed on my Xbox (such a shame they never enhanced this for BC, it's ugly as sin now) but the sense of speed is way, way better than the new one. It's simply way faster.

hey, at least it got FPS boost. so better than nothing.

Strange thing is, I definitely didn't notice it. It should be 60fps now? It was sluggish as hell. Very odd.

Fps boost is not dependent on features such as VRR, right? Because at the moment I don't have that enabled.

nope. FPS boost works no matter what.

have you accidentally turned it off maybe? there's a toggle if you open the "Manage Game and Add-ons" menu of the game. there should be a menu option there that says compatibility options.

Did you enable the dynamic camera?
The 200CC mode wasn't in the open beta, don't worry.

Strange thing then, because it's enabled. I'll go try again.

Yes, and it definitely helped but even with the Sonic Speed it felt way slower than Transformed. Not to mention the speed below that.
