Leak Reveals New Details on Halo Combat Evolved Remake: Hybrid Unreal Engine 5 and Blam Engine, Sprint Mechanic, Co-Dev Studio, and More

Sprint mechanic

Sprint? Good, it won't feel like a 2001 fps in 2026. I hope the dozen people still posting on the subreddit are up in arms about it.

Halo: Stutter Edition.

I wish companies would stop using UE5. Or at least, that Epic would fix their game engine, once and for all.

Sprint built in lol. These guys will never know what it means to be a Halo game.

Your not gonna ever win the Cod, Apex and Fortnight kids so stop trying lol. They only know "go" and nothing else.

Just release MCC multi platform.

That was the rumor. I think it was Nate the Hate who first started the rumor that Halo MCC would be ported to PS5 (I assume Switch 2 as well).

However, that was well over a year ago and there hasn't been a single hint of a Halo MCC port.

Pretty sure Nate got this one wrong.

I understand the dev's situation. If you remove Blam you remove the feel of Halo, but updating Blam to use modern rendering is too expensive for a remaster.

That being said, a dual engine approach will cause performance issues and I don't see that going over well with the hardcore fan base. It will probably still sell to people who don't know any better but I don't see it having the staying power it needs.

I actually liked Infinite but it was a shell of what might have been. If they expanded on that with actual proper levels and decent set pieces as well as the "open" world then we'd have a winner.

Shame they'll toss it all out and fuck it up again.

I whole heartedly agree. They had a such a great foundation with Infinite campaign, ripe for expanding on, yet they threw it all away. One of the biggest head scratchers and disappointment s this gen for me as I really enjoyed the campaign. They really nailed the gameplay loop and halo feel.

I swear some people on GAF just hates video games, im sure it will be better than the original, bunch of boomers with rose tinted nostalgia glasses on.

did I miss anything?

Trouble is they can't win over Halo players either. Sprint at least makes any new attempt more appealing to potential new players from a broader audience.

Which is why they should just stop making them. You can only win old fans if they actaully play like halo. The newness is supposed to be an evolution of the mechanics that make halo not copying every other game like the uncreative bunch that keeps making them. No trend setters only trend followers lol.

fuck off with the sprint

I'll never understand the obsession with the hardcore Halo enthusiasts about the sprint.

You boys have to be the loudest vocal minority in existence.

PS: add clamber to the list, yet another QoL improvement that the "fans" shat on it, I guess people still like moon physics® like it's the early 2000's

This won't be better than the original. They couldn't even get the remaster right.

What makes you think they will do a better job than Bungie did?

Clamber makes the game better imo. Sprint is fine in the campaign but brings with it all sorts of design problems in MP.

Infinite's multiplayer, which was mechanically brilliant despite 343i badly managing the game's post launch environment, had sprint. It arguably made the gameplay better. The miniscule "Halo shouldn't have sprint!" brigade are out the ark and need to just fuck off really, it's dead tired now. They've been boring everyone to tears with that asperger's shit since Attack of the Clones was in the cinema.

Why not remake halo 3? We already have remakes of 1 and 2.
Yeah, and they already royally fucked up the remake of 1 once.

It's 343i (You can change your name "Halo Studios" but you can't hide from your legacy as a terrible studio that killed one of the best, biggest, and most important franchises of all time) and Microsoft so I wouldn't expect anything less then mediocrity as that's what they do best.

To be honest I think that looks visually superb, but engine performance will wreck the experience.
The design is all wrong. If you told me it was an AI generated image I wouldn't bat an eye.

They nailed the Halo "feel" in the Infinite teaser, shame they never delivered on it.

Can't we just get the MCC ffs.

The anniversary version is horrible, I tried playing through it without switching back to the old graphics several times and I never could, they're horrible. Kills the atmosphere, looks terrible overall. This will also run horribly, there are sections in Delta that run like shit, and they are small fucking sections. Not to mention the stuttering mess that oblivion is. When it comes to an FPS, the amount of flood on screen are gonna make the game come to a halt.

Now they're going to change the level design and add sprint. Hell no.

Hybrid engine, similar to Oblivion Remastered? No thanks. That'll be a huge wait and see after launch.

Why can't they just release Halo MCC for all modern platforms with cross play? It's all the fans want lol.

I played this on MCC for the first time like two years ago. It doesn't need a remake. In fact I'm sure a remake would ruin it.

I'm not very familiar with Halo, but I played Infinite and the campaign was very boring, with a very uninspired open world, but the gameplay and mechanics themselves were good (especially the grapple shot).

For me, it's just a matter of following the same gameplay line, fixing some aspects (bugs, vehicle physics, collisions, etc.) and creating a story with interesting levels. And, of course, making the visuals more engaging.

While I'm #1 hater of UE5 I remember CE and 3 having one second pauses while auto saving and being basically best game ever. I wonder when we lost our way as a civilization.
I also remember loading C64 Racing Destruction Set off a tape for half hour before it crashed for the 12th time. Doesn't mean we have to accept it today.

What would they remastering?

Wrong word to use, just make it run at higher framerates and resolutions on modern systems but with the same AI, sound, graphical effects and all the things Gearbox/343 fucked up in the MCC, they never did fix it fully:

... so the MCC, then?

I watched videos comparing it to the original release, for a long time it was an absolute joke but even now its not fully the same as the original release, I dont want to have to buy an Xbox just to play those 3 games how I remember them.

Last update was 4 years ago afaics and stuff like the Flood not having the little tentacles on their corpse parts isnt there. That mean seem like a tiny detail but we're talking about a really minimal art style game so one effect missing is a big deal to me.

Obviously at this point just gonna have to wait for some future auto-optimisation/porting tools to do it I reckon.
