Xbox: "Price Increases Are Never Fun For Anybody", but "We try to provide players with more of what they’re asking for."

None of these business decisions make any sense. I bought a series x because I already had game pass since it was so cheap. I think they're doing this backwards. It's almost feels like intentional sabotage, either that or they know they can't sell any more hardware so they'll just make more money off the people that already own it smh.
I actually think it is intentional sabotage at this point. They want out of the console business and gamepass.

If they price enough people out, they have less obligation with less customers when they eventually pull the plug.

Sub services are turning into cable all over again. I didn't ask for Fortnite Crew or shitty Ubisoft+ Classics. I don't want them, just like I didn't want the myriad of TV channels I never watched but had to pay for when we had cable because you either bought the bundle or you went without.

I won't use them, they add no value to me. Cost went up but value didn't. Just like cable TV, it's no longer worth the cost for a bunch of crap I won't use.

It's a win-win for them. If they're successful, they've upcharged a significant amount. If it fails, they get to exit what they see as a poor business. There is a chance it could succeed, simply because Microsoft owns a significant portion of new gaming content that can eventually be weaponized against their competitors.

Corporate speak is so disingenuous these days it's barely worth examining, but man do MS take the cake.

"giving the players more of what they're asking for"

Ok, then add a $10 option for people to add streaming, ubisoft and fortnite v bucks to gamepass if you think that those are market offerings that consumers are asking for.

Edit after seeing the tweet above:

How is paying $30 per month, forever, a good deal for people who almost exclusively play free to play games? That's genuinely mental logic. Also, does the f2p multiplayer crowd play an assortment of games? My impression was that segment of the market tends to focus on one game and invest both time and money into that game almost exclusively. I could easily be wrong about this though - my impressions come mostly from anecdotal observations of my younger cousins

The damage is done at this point. They've simply priced too many people out of their ecosystem at this point, their console is too expensive and GP is a lot for most families/people given the economy right now. At this point I would be hesitant to buy anything MS in the future. I do enjoy Xbox I thnk their BC is and amazing offering but there is a point where the value isn't there and we are at that point and I think in general most people are just burnt out with all the recent price increase fatigue in general in just about every aspect of gaming right now.
And everything on their platform can be played on competition platforms (and better versions too on a PS pro and pc) whereas the same cannot be said the other way around.

Xbox is more expensive, performs worse and has less content than competing platforms.

At this point I can't justify buying xbox anymore. It makes no sense.

The biggest company in the world first priced new players out of new consoles and now they're gouging customers out of their subscriber service. It's almost like they are accelerating the Xbox brand's failure and plan to blame it on the customer-base rather than just take the L. They have laughably fucked up at every turn during the entire Xbox Series generation.

"Provide them with more of what they're asking for" So fucking tone-deaf.

Who tf asked you to add Ubisoft+ to the lineup? Probably Yves Guillemot with a big bag of Tencent blood money.

Cool, cloud streaming has improved... but it still doesn't beat playing on a console.

THAT is what this moron went out there armed with? Holy hell, how do I get his job? This guy doesn't know shit about comms or PR.

Everyone at XBOX is incompetent.

How is adding Ubisoft games increasing the value of the service? Half of the PlayStation Plus offerings are Ubisoft games and its not worth the price but those are going to make Gamepass a better value? Get the fuck out of here MS

Doesn't help when Netflix is what, like $15/month.

All these subscription services are a ripoff, and only worth getting if you can get them for less than $5/month... but then when you can get it cheap it's always the shittiest tier.

All this for a bunch of filler garbage (ratio of garbage to good content on any subscription service is like 10:1).

360 USD a year is insane. For that money you could buy 2-3 big releases you actually care about on day one, plus a dozen great cheap games. TO OWN. And potentially resell.
Well to be honest most of games sales recently (100% on PC, it's a lot right) are made digitally, and for resell your digital games...

But yes 360 is pure insanity.

I've rarely seen a majority of customers asking for lighter wallets without an appreciable increase in the quality of service (a heap of assassins creed games doesn't count)

This, they trying to maximize profits before pulling out of that slut all together.

Sony hurt him so bad that he's doing things even Punished Miku Punished Miku wouldn't do.
Sony didn't hurt me at all. In fact, they just sent me a fantastic 20th anniversary edition GOW book and a super kind note. Will be making a video about it soon but it prob won't convince people that when you are a grown up (with an actual grown up brain as well) you start to pivot away from being 'loyal' to anything but actual humans. I have a PS5 and enjoy it and a series X. I turn both of them on super rarely as I game anytime I can on my PC. Even when I worked FOR Sony, I was able to look at other games from other publishers and appreciate them and be excited for them. Sony never hurt me; I remain grateful for all the opportunities they have (and continue) to give me.

Say "at this point" again 🤨😂

My reply was tongue in cheek but I'm glad to see you're still on good terms with them.

Since you're here, has the feedback you're receiving on your latest video made you reconsider your stance at all?

Even most of the Xbox faithful are finding it difficult to agree with you on this point. Of course "value" is subjective, but given your position it would make sense to consider other people's (in particular your audiences) perspectives.
