David Jaffe: GAMEPASSA - why I still love it!

Someone should write an article about the cringe thumbnails being used by youtubers these days to get their click and likes (it means everything!!!!). I'm sure your video was absolutely as calm as you say it is, but first impressions mean a lot and this shit is nothing but cringe...

Honestly? That one is not even that bad, the average linustech thumbnail give you 10x times more internet cancer and...pubic lices.

We have long started to like you less and less and already started to hate you Jaffe. You don't need to keep trying so hard.

And good thing you'd pay even more. Because there are so few GamePass suckers left, they'll HAVE to pay more and more to keep the service around.

When you're paying more to rent games someone else picks for you than actually buying and owning the games you want to play, you have really hit the bottom of the intelligence barrel.

David calling out the brokies.

JK. He's just calling out the intelligent consumers. Retards like him are lucky to flush money without a care.

If you were a massive consumer of video games that specifically come to gamepass and planned on never ever leaving it I can see the value but I suspect that pretty niche group

He directed God of War 20 years ago and hasn't had a rational thought on just about anything since. Why do we still listen to this guy?
Really? There's a pre-requisite for having a Youtube channel or posting on a video game forum?

Was not aware, but that is fair. Please let us all know what you've done for the industry to give your own views such vaunted status because I, for the life of me, can not recall.

Just my take: If you haven't followed this man, he is always like this. He's a contrarian. Always has been. His takes will piss you off to the end of time if you let them, that's just how he is. The man likes to think outside the box and takes current group think very personally. I don't take him seriously and my life is better. Shit he said about Vara Dark was pretty out there.
??? Jaffe has been a contrarian edgelord to the point you can't distinguish his takes as real or straight up trolling anymore and hat's not thinking outside the box, it's just this:

The only thing calculated about the video (aka engagement farming) was going, 'Lots of people are talking about the Gamepass price hike so we should do a video about that in hopes of catching the algorithm'. The opinion is valid, the video is calm and logically presented. You may not agree with it, but it's not some crazy rant. I honestly recommend this article for some of you in this thread: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/style/climbing-cringe-mountain-with-gen-z.html

It's a trend I've seen over the last 10 years where so many people are desperate NEVER to be seen coloring outside of the lines that anyone who values their own personal views and opinions is seen as trying to be an edgelord. If you had watched the video before commenting (I know it's hard to do; getting those little dopamine drip 'thumbs up' kudos on the bottom right of your post means EVERYTHING!!!) you would see the video is simply explaining why I still love Gamepass even with the shitty price increase. Nowhere in the video am I trying to convince anyone else they need to put up with the price increase. Not at all what the video was about (and you would know that if you had watched it).

Jaffe
Best thing about GAF. We all have our opinions. Whether they're stupid to downright retarded. If you're happy with GP still then great.

Not saying you're retarded, Dave. Maybe a little in your own way, but we all are.

I'm just another hater. You should aim a little higher.

I like Jaffe but I have also noticed he clearly is a contrarian.

$360 per year to rent games don't make a lot of sense for most people especially casuals because they only buy like 4 games a year. 2 of those games are going to be a shooter (COD/BF) and one sports game than maybe 2 AAA games.

The issue with Game pass is most of the popular AAA games aren't even on Xbox (mainly on PlayStation & Nintendo) and the few that are could be purchased on PC for cheaper than buying a copy for Xbox.

I'll now have my thumbs up on the bottom.

Wait, that didn't sound right.

Is there a subscription service that hasn't had a price hike? I don't see anything wrong with people who choose to keep their subscriptions. Everyone measures value differently, and if it's still within your threshold, that's completely fine.

Most have to play the algorithm game (don't hate the player). Did I just defend davidjaffe davidjaffe ?

He said in the video that we will find a way to call him contrarian, literally using the word contrarian, and that it just made sense for him to keep it despite being a worse deal because he tries out a lot of games and does streaming.

Not everything has to be such a polarizing bandwagon.

QUE PASA? GAME PASSA!

It's come up in the news recently, but this reminds me of a story that Jerry Jones likes to tell about a contract negotiation with Michael Irvin where Michael countered with a higher contract number.

"I said, 'Michael, there is an old West Texas town called El Paso,'" Jones explained. 'I El Paso."

I El Paso sums up my feelings towards the Game Pass price hike.

The dude's idol must be John Dvorak

I think it makes sense if you are a streamer to have Gamepass for an easy way to keep up on releases without buying every last one, or streaming your collection of pirated games for a Darwin award.

Since he already liked it for that, he took a look at the value of all the games he wanted that he "passively" got to play without having to buy, and it was a high number.

Everything about it appears like he offered his honest take, down to the reason and timing of the video, especially because it was explained and makes sense.

Most of us aren't content creators (not on Youtube or video game makers) so we can't understand the framing of the value he still sees in Gamepass in his own situation (if we bothered hearing it)

If he called GP a scam not worth the money bc conformity next month you'd call him a liar for finding out the sub is active

Jaffe has defended Gamepass since it's inception and I've largely agreed with him.

I don't agree with this. Gamepass WAS an undeniable value to consumers, especially those who like to discover new games and don't care about ownership of their games.

The best part about Gamepass was that it was an OPTION if you didn't feel inclined to purchase a game or you wanted to try games out prior to purchase and at a discount for being a member.

You still have options, but the number of games available to any tier except ultimate has been greatly diminished, stripped of day one games and even Xbox studios games are delayed for up to a year before going into Gamepass.

All this, and you have to pay more. A line has been crossed and though I've been a Gamepass enjoyer since day 1, happily paying monthly for PC Gamepass, I feel it's necessary to help people who just got shafted by the Ultimate tier price hike to vote with my wallet along with them.

Cancelled my sub until they get their head out their collective ass
