Lords of the Fallen 2 dev hired two souls game veterans (thousands of hours played) , to ensure link to the community and the game hits what fans want

oooooooooo souls veterans

i'm so curious to see what sort of innovative game LotF2 will become now

Thats stupid for multiple reasons, one of them being the fact that they have over a thousand hours in "souls" game meaning their critical analysis will be biased/flawed. People obsessed with specific genres will be massively ignorant to its issues.

Thats basically what happened any time Blizzard consulted top raiding guilds about feedback.

Bingo. Miyazaki himself doesnt play his own fucking games and for good reason. Soulslikes arent being bought by only the hardcore fans, in fact the majority are always going to be newcomers, casuals, etc.

They dont need to be innovative, they are exploring a genre, not creating one .... and with From moving away from classic souls for that godawful openworld dogshit elden ring formula.. all they have to do is to provide a refined classic souls experience and they will set thenselfs apart.. and btw lords of the fallen was already innovative enough for the genre with the "dark world" mechanic.

The first game I consider the best souls like and enjoy it very much .. so I hope for a even better sequel since they pretty much improved the game with every new patch.

Fine if it mostly affects multiplayer.

LOTF was on the right track and a very solid souls-like game already, hopefully the director sticks to their vision.

Meh.
As if we need yet another decent but not amazing Souls clone.
Lies of P shat all over their previous attempts.

Having played both this year, I would strongly disagree with that.

Lies Of P is very good, but is visually inferior to Lords 2.0, is considerably shorter and way more linear, and despite having zero multiplayer elements still has difficulty balance issues.

Its smartly designed (I'm still shocked by how people managed to ignore all the lifts from the Nier games!) with excellent art direction and sound design, but its way more constrained than most Souls' copyists.

Lords (again, judging on the 2.0 release) basically attempts to copy the entire Souls formula, and then add a bunch of Soul Reaver inspired stuff on top... So credit has to be given for ambition. While the story is fairly bog-standard and not terribly memorable, the character voicing and dialogue was as I recall quite decent - it certainly didn't pull me out of the game at any point and honestly, given how FROM have basically recycled the same NPC character arcs multiple times over the past 15 years I was pleasantly surprised that they managed to differentiate theirs while retaining the same template.

I liked both games, so saying one is vastly better or worse than the other is absolutely not something I can agree with.

Just get rid of the double realm and make a stronger main realm instead.

But that was his whole thing, one layer on top of the other man.
Not only it was impressive technically wise but also gave the game a different kind of depth compared to other games out there, Clear Clear is spot on in saying that it was Soul Reaver-ish in its design.

Take that out and it becomes yet another run of the mill clone (which it already kind of is).

For me personally, after the 1.5 update, it was one the best Souls-likes out there, great atmosphere, fantastic visuals and - gasp - great art direction, and the fact that it wasn't hard as nails as - say - Lies of P, made it even better as you could concentrate on the exploration part.

Well, if you followed development of the first game, you'd know that they cater to casuals and newcomers quite a bit. There are a ton of settings to make the game easier, or harder, that most Souls type games don't have. You also don't need consultants for casual players, they're literally the easiest people to develop for.

And, yeah, the "good reason" Miyazaki doesn't play his own games is because he says it feels like reliving his work and it's not enjoyable, not because it's some zen developer move.

I just wish Bethesda would do the same for Fallout. They clearly have no idea what the series was originally about. Hire me, I'd do it for free.

I know it was the game main feature but i just personally don't care much for it.

The timer, the shitty enemy inside and the kinda ugly look were all detrimental to my enjoyment when i was in the alternate realm.

The only reason why I see them doing this is probably to make the game stream viral, and then hope that acts as the marketing for new buyers.

Hopefully veterans enough to understand that dark souls 2 is the best one.
I don't give a shit what anyone says. But I have a massive soft spot for Dark Souls 2. I really like it a lot, but if you ask me why exactly, then I can't answer that but DS2 is the one I replay the most. Same with Silent Hill 4.

Why is this dev so obsessed with making other people's games? It shows such a lack of authenticity, creativity and ethics to me, not to mention that their work will always feel like an inferior knock-off. Did they make their own games before they started making bad cover versions of FROM titles?

I like Souls games but the players who put tons of hours into these games tend to like the hard bosses more than the exploration/atmosphere. Hard bosses are the worst part of these games imo.

Very double-edged sword imo, they're basically saying they will adhere to everything From did as blindly as possible.

The entire point of a non-Fromsoft company doing a souls-type game is to have a different take on it, a different flavor. Not to slavishly pursue what they did.

Epic Game Store exclusive on PC, lol.

Bye, dead game.
AFAIK, they mentioned that PS was their lead platform in sales.

For me it is the alure of adventure, freedom in tackling areas, and amount of great builds in Dark Souls II that keeps me coming back. The great mods for it help too.

Going for Elden Ring scope based on promotional footage (despite mainstream fatigue) and the stated Epic exclusivity are surely a double whammy and recipe for disaster.

P.S. They should have hired Bloodborne veterans.

Yep the dual realm thing was it's main differentiator and that's what elevated it miles above lies of P for me.

They should lean in to it more and flesh it out further, not abandon it.

I just beat the original recently, and I started the OG right after. Both are really solid (the reboot is better though, the OG is rough around the edges but its also 10 years old).

I love that! These devs are full of passion, and I think the final version is going to be one hell of a piece of art to look at and explore.

From the same writer that create the movie 'everyone is a gamer', know his new sequel 'everyone is a souls veteran'.
