How will the ps6 do next gen?

$699 without the drive
I don't see it being over $600 absolute max without a drive (I actually think it could be $500)

Why do you think it will be so expensive? I can give reasons as to why I think it will be reasonable but you must have reasoning why it will be that expensive?

The market is moving to GAAS though. Sony doesn't have that much of a choice.
Sure they do, just keep catering to long-time fans and continue to make a lot of money. They don't have to chase all the idiotic fads out there, or sell their soul to the devil while ruining their name by scrapping what made them just to make an extra dollar or two.

My bad, I forgot that consumers only benefit when there's less competition. If only we had more monopolies, everything would be so cheap!
I don't think you know what the word competition means. Xbox was not competitive. More market share was being eaten up by Nintendo, PC and mobile and those spaces will continue to exist after Xbox is long gone.

Next-gen Sony is essentially competing with itself. Making it challenging for them to fail. But if someone can achieve this feat it would be Sony.

Try learning about the free market. Consumers chose to buy ps5 and not xbox. Nobody forced them. If MS can't make a product that people want to buy, that's on them. The consumer isn't worse off if a dead product line gets shut down. That's how competition works. Everyone is competing for your dollars.

Unless they go back to japanese game root, chance we still get samey walking sinulator game with DEI checklist

Moore's Law is dead. The Subsidy Era is dead.

Majority of their revenue now is PS+ and the third party GAAS cut. In a lot of ways, the first party games are mainly there as the reason to buy their box over others.

I'm not saying Nintendo isn't competition, but they offer a different product.

I love my Switch 2 but it isn't a direct substitute to the Series X or Ps5 in terms of hardware nor features. Ps6 will (should) be, and I imagine it'll be the only viable option next gen for anyone looking to replace those specifically.

Yeah. PS6's chief competition will be mobile and the PS5.

That's exactly what I return to you lol

Bro why do some of you folks keep thinking that in 2027-2028 dollars, accounting for all the inflation over time, Sony is going to release a next-gen console cheaper than the mid-gen refresh for this gen?

It's like y'all are setting yourselves up for disappointment.

Just look at all the gripes from players about their direction. They got the money, but do they have the respect and admiration? Jury is out on that one...

At least two Ratchet and Clank games, preferably 3.

Final Fantasy XVII done better than XVI

Another big FF remake

Stellar Blade 3

Return of Infamous with an Infamous 4.

Dragon's Crown 2 and in full high budget 3D adventure like Witcher 3/Skyrim but more linear and keeping their art/design

At least 2 new Twisted Metal games.

While Sony and AMD play catch up with Nvidia features and drop a system in 2028 with features Nvidia had from 2023, Nvidia will be cooking up what's actually next for graphics and efficiency.

I think it's time Sony and Microsoft bend the knee and go Green.

Seriously. Who's gonna give a fuck about consoles when you can play path traced single player games on GeForce Now 5080 tier, and use any old card for online mp games.

On one hand I'm pretty sure the average gamer still needs an easy to use console to play games without setting their house on fire.

On the other hand, the PS5 was so fucking lame that maybe even a big portion of those guys will become PC gamers.

Idk... Either that or Nintendo or phones become the main gaming platform for even regular AA/AAA games.

Sony are good to find out pretty soon what marvel fatigue looks like and it isn't going to be pretty I'm afraid.

The good new is it's never too late for a redemption arc.

Go back and look at the question I responded to. 🤷‍♂️
Oh I know they were referring to GeForce now but they were responded to me and my post had nothing to do with it. GeForce now is negligent. Siding with AMD will constantly put them behind the curve of what PC is capable of due to Nvidia being the main innovator in that space.

If they continue to put games on other platforms and they release in 2027(don't think they will) I see a significant drop in sales vs PS4 and PS5.

It will be a smaller leap on the surface than PS4 to PS5, look at BF6 on PS5 Pro compared to BF6 at overkill settings, there's very little in it, the average person can't tell if they're watching SD or HD on a TV, it becomes a much much harder sell if it's just on graphics alone.

That shrinks every generation.
just like how PC hardware upgrades are shrinking? you know....the vast numbers low end hardware users% on steam ?

oh wait...this rule doesnt apply to PC, only console.

Majority of PC users unable to afford a mid range hardware, let alone a high end one, and then this "increase steam users" spamming bad reviews because their "high end" PC cant afford to run the game

PCMR like you always comparing 1 single console gen to an "accumulated" user numbers on PC. Hilarious. You know PC is going to win in numbers with stupid comparisons like this.

A massive number of people.
Will they, really? Younger people don't give a shit about consoles, and we aren't getting any younger. If Sony can only put out three or four first party titles next gen, what will be the allure? Outside of the hardcore fan base, are people really going to spend the better part of a grand to play ps plus games?

Younger people don't give a care about GeForce Now and most don't give a care about PC gaming. Those younger people are going to mobile.

PlayStation is making more money than it ever has. PS5 has sold 80 million plus so far. We are multiple console generations away from them being in trouble and that is if they do not adapt to market changes.

What makes you think people are paying the better part of a grand to only play PS plus games? Even if you want to believe Sony will only have three or four first party titles for the next generation (I do not believe that), Sony has built the PlayStation brand as the one to go to consoles for second and third party console games. That hasn't changed and might be getting stronger if Xbox minimizes their console footprint.

I have said before, console makers can screw it all up and price the majority of gamers out of the market. That is a real threat IMO. However, those gamers are not going to GeForce Now and most are not going to PC. In the meantime, there will still be "a massive number of people" who are going to "give a fuck about consoles."

way to ruin your point

Sir I'm a Nintendo fanboy. Sony's continual slow yet steady decline due to PC gaming growth is only an amusing distraction to me.

Xbox is doing ps6 a huge favor.

Economic factors may seem to play more into video games future than competition. Declining economies and currencies will factor into affordability.

How many of those people are just going to opt for a PS4 or PS5? I know tons of people who haven't bought a PS5 yet. These rising prices are just going to be for the elite gamer, and with Sony putting fp games on PC it shrinks the base even further. Things are moving towards digital and streaming. Then there's Nintendo, there's mobile, there's streaming services to choose from.

At this point I don't know how anyone can believe there will be a strong traditional console market for next gen in big markets. Maybe Spain.

Nintenboys like you licking Nintendo boots is amusing distraction for me as well. I still laughing as the paid walkthrough demo, hilarious.

Actual games > mario and zelda

I seriously hope Nintendo keep making their incredible strategy here, i really do :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

What about sonyboys licking sony boots (you)? Zelda and Mario are gameplay focused, way more than TLOU and spider-man lmao. What, no skill trees and light RPG mechanics is scary to you? Don't worry, Sony will have another other out soon. And don't worry, you wil get 6+ hours of cutscenes.

If people opt for a PS5 is it not still keeping people in Sony's eco system and on a console? PC and console gaming have been declared dead off and on for decades now and both are still here. Maybe it will happen someday but I don't think we are there yet.

A lot of people are opting for digital now but I do not see any indication outside of a select group on enthusiast boards that people are moving to streaming. You bring up the price of consoles on the heels of the huge amount of blowback we just saw from a streaming service price increase. Even fans of that service have started declaring that it is losing its value. I do believe there is something driving the "PlayStation is dead" narrative even though market indications show that they are currently in a strong position and poised to be in an even better position next gen (if they don't fuck it up).

That's a good point. We do get regular 'Sony dying' and 'consoles dead' narratives, don't we? The fact that both narratives don't stand up to scrutiny given factual evidence of Sony's current and historical success doesn't seem to make a dent either. Part of it is definitely wish fulfillment (ie. warring), part is people who are seemingly incapable of understanding that millions of other people don't share their preferences (in games, platforms, etc.) - but maybe there's something else too.

I will say that one thing I've always found amusing is that in the midst of all this negativity, Sony just keeps trucking along. They've rarely (if ever) responded to FUD and I think that's the best way to handle it. Besides all that, there's a lot of people who prefer playing on console. And they'll keep doing that next generation too. It'd be best for people to just accept that, but it's doubtful that will happen - unfortunately. So, we'll likely be seeing something similar to this in a couple months, and then a couple months later, and...ad nauseam. :messenger_expressionless:

Sales-wise, I don't see why it wouldn't sell as well as the PS5.

It might take some people longer to switch from the PS5 to the PS6, but it should be around the same number of units sold.

That's going to depend largely on pricing. Many will get priced out of the market if it's more than the Pro.

To be clear, I'm not rooting for Sony to fail. I just don't see a good path forward if they continue chasing higher-end graphics. They are really going to test the limits of their core base.
