That's probably because the Video Games are specifically developed for the Nintendo Switch 2 Hardware Capabilities.

While the XBox Ally X is just a PC in the End and therefore just gets the PC Version which is not optimised for a PC Handheld.

That's 80fps with frame gen though. needing frame gen to get to 80s will feel terrible. Frame gen is good for bringing 60+ fps to 100+ fps. Not good for bringing 40fps to 80fps.

Switch 2 has many demanding games. Hogwarts Legacy is quite demanding and Star Wars Outlaws is one of the most demanding games on the market. Not to mention UE5 titles like Cronos: The New Dawn.

No. It's super easy. It takes a few minutes per game if that. Games that support FSR4, like cyberpunk, it's a drag and drop operation. The difference FSR4 makes on handheld is astounding. The clarity difference between FSR2/3 and 4 cannot be understated.

I don't have CP2077 installed right now but here's BG3 on my legion go. 1920x1200. Medium/high settings. 55-60fps. Both images are being slowly panned so FSR doesn't have a chance to resolve a static image. This is how the game appears in motion.

FSR4 Ultra Performance, internal resolution 640x400.

Good upscaling on a handheld is a massive, massive gamechanger.

For sure, I don't disagree with you there!

Coming from a Steam Deck, which was feeling a bit long in the tooth for me, I picked up a Legion Go S with SteamOS and a powerful Z1E chip. I absolutely love this thing. It's not perfect, but it feels like a Steam Deck 2.

I could've bought a ROG Ally X, instead, so that I could play all of my PC games, including PC Game Pass. Pretty much the same performance on both.

At the end of the day, the usability of SteamOS was far more valuable to me, even though it locks out a number of gaming opportunities. The 8 inch screen also won me over.

They're at least making an attempt with this Full Screen Experience thing and are working toward a SteamOS experience (compiling shaders ahead of time, sleep states, ease of use, removing bloat, etc.) However, it sounds like they still have a ways to go. I hope they get there sooner, than later.

Pricing and value is a whole different story. $999 is way too much, even for some power users. And for most gamers, Steam Deck is more than good enough.

Doom TDA and few others like Baldur's Gate 3 are getting Handheld support/preset for the Ally X. MS is also adding a Handheld Verified tag to store pages.

Indies and most AA games don't really need handheld presets. MS first and second party will start to include them. And they will encourage the AAA third party devs into adding handheld support/presets.

Handheld support will also make it more likely for the publishers to make game Play Anywhere and Cloud Enabled.

Star Wars Outlaws has RTGI and Ray Traced reflections while holding it's 1080p/30fps rarely dropping and even got several graphic patches to remove a lot of pop in, all of that runs in handheld mode as well.

According to DF, RE9 also has RTGI and that game hangs around 60fps most the time.

I have not the foggiest idea of its worth it to the PC gamer. I'm sure there are some folks out there that will love this and tinker around with it, add an eGPU and a dock and get the very most out of it. Probably come close (enough) to a mid level desktop for the same price and still have the ability to take it with you. I'm sure there is someone looking for that.

I'm a untethered gamer only so it makes no sense for me to invest in any device that will provide diminishing returns over my current Switch 2 / Steam Deck combo. And still cost more than both combined.

I'm of the thinking that there are no more "impossible ports" after seeming Star Wars Outlaws for Switch 2 so I am fully onboard with the idea. RE9 looks good so far on Switch 2, clearly downgraded but that is to be expected on a system that small.

REally gotta watch the video. I appreciate the full screen pics but it's not telling the whole story. Switch 2 was surprisingly good in games I didn't think it had the horsepower in. Also DLSS >>>>>> FSR even after 4 versions. Xbox Ally X in Cyberpunk was really impressive. I was really worried about battery life as well, but it seems that worry is put to rest. Playing 2-3 hour of Cyberpunk or 3-5 hours of a game like Silksong is plenty for a handheld. Switch is a bit lacking in that department. Load times are great on the Ally X, as well as download speed, at least when comparing to the switch 2.

Overall is it worth $550 more to have better performance, battery life, load times and download speeds, more ergonomic controls and most importantly, access to all my Steam library...

I will be traveling for Thanksgiving next month...would sure be nice if I could game on the plane for a 4 hour flight
