The Outer Worlds 2 Exclusive Gameplay — Paradise Island (First Biome)

Soooo i know this game will get called woke by the usual suspects but oh boi. Embargo ends on Thursday , so i can say more soon but just… wow. This thing is just dark, i was expecting the sequel to go into wacky territory (that live marketing video with Ben Schwartz doesnt do the game favours), but the tone and setup of the sequel is great. There's a lot of ways to achieve objectives. Not done with the game yet

Also yeah the sneak attack is lame, but eh i can live with it
It's not woke?

I thought Outer Worlds was supposed to be light and 'humorous' in tone?

If you feel free to comment, can you clarify your remark? I'm not asking for story specifics, but when you say "This thing is just dark," are you referring to the overall story or to the use of 'dark humor'?

In a lot of previews they have mentioned they moved away from one note capitalism jibes in sequal.

Hopefully there is some interesting narrative themes here.

They do have try hard - funny dialogue going on. If its bothersome remains to be seen.

Latest trailer looked good, close to release - final type of visuals.

Shame it feels like the hype for this is nonexistent, it looks genuinely fantastic

Nice to see they have a third person option. Hoping you get to see more of your character in certain cut scenes too.

Has ADA or a similar character been confirmed to return for this ?

So all their marketing is cringe as hell, and now they're going to try to convince us that actually the game is really dark and serious?

Sounds like the Dragon Age Veilguard marketing strategy. Let's see how it works for them.

Avowed was a ton of fun and I'm expecting something similar.

Only real question for me is the story. OW1 was a bit of a bore so if they went much darker this should be fantastic.
I thought the first wasn't great if I'm honest but I really liked Avowed. As for being darker not seen much of that in the promotional material but hopefully he's right.

Agreed. Avowed is much, much better than OW1.

OW2 will likely have almost the same gameplay as Avowed, solid guns, solid UE5 graphics. Really just hoping they get a decent story and I'll enjoy it.

It has better combat, story and characters are pretty crap, not as in your face political but still pretty bad.

Nobody is ever, and i mean ever gonna list one of avowed characters or plot in a topic about great videogame characters and plots except some crazy xbots, probably same people who pretend to like the dogshit, neutered characters of starfield :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

And we saw the gun combat in a recent video of ow2 and it looked bad, much worse than gun fighting in avowed where you at least had that exagerated ragdoll that made the combat fun to look at.

If you find any footage of good gun fighting, let me know.

I dont need to watch footage. Playing it in 2 weeks. Sounds like you should just skip it.
If combat is as decent as avowedi i could play down the line when it has an hard discount but from what i've seen, combat look worse and there is probably nothing to salvage other than that if the first game and the marketing for the sequel is anything to go by.

The plot in Avowed is badass. I take it you didn't finish it?

Its focused in last third.

It sets up future conflicts in franchise.

Yeah i bailed out after a couple of hours in the last zones, probably played more than 30 hours to reach that point so sorry but if the precedent hours were generic ass crap i find extremely hard to believe that the plot got immensely better in the final hours, i can already imagine what they were doing because the whole setup is the same as countless of other generic rpgs with just pillars nomenclature to make everything harder to follow if you weren't familiar with the brand.

Something like tainted grail was light years more interesting than anything inside avowed.

I did not find it to be story driven title. If you are playing it to find next interesting story bit or twist, its not setup to be that interesting.

I suspect same could be true for Outer Worlds 2. Its quite a bit gear / loot / build focused from what I have seen.

As for Avowed story, it gets interesting once Woedica involvement gets clear. After that it sets up a lot of lore, conflicts, nature of the sickness. Yeah, all of it is revealed in final area.

How deep is it in terms of rpg mechanics? Do you think it's getting closer to become "fallout in spance" or it's just something like Avowed, and ok game that's nothing special?

Avowed story was cool. It's kind of like a dark Final Fantasy story more than your typical WRPG. Tracking down the origins of a mysterious god. Most of the characters had a decent backstory. They weren't all the best story, but most were fine. Combat was among the best ever in a 1st person WRPG. Graphics were inconsistent but many parts looked great. Easy title to like, and I intend to replay it someday for other builds.

To be fair, the marketers or developers have not said it was "dark" -- that was D Danteyke223 on the last page. He apparently has a review copy of the game, and that's his take.

My suspicion is that the game probably touches on some dark themes/topics, but it isn't actually dark in any real or pervasive sense. A truly "dark" Outer Worlds would be a complete 180 and not make a lot of sense. But we'll see.

Man, speaking of Obsidian, any word at all on Avowed being ported to PS5?

I haven't seen any announcements yet. I expect it will come to PS5 eventually, but nothing official yet. Even if a port is underway, Obsidian wouldn't want to talk about it now. They'd want to get Outer Worlds 2 out of the gate first.
