I have a feeling that the Switch 2 frenzy has died a quick death

Sony first party, many single player games and Rockstar games in PS5 are playable without any patch from the disc. Like GTA V literally released for PS5 in a BD100 disc. In PC I try to buy games from GOG. And in Switch 2 we have Game Key Cards. Physical Games are not supposed to have DRM.
Nintendo first party are the same, much like most third party games, both GKC and BRD are the same now.

Wasn't there a recent report that Nintendo is pumping out Switch 2 consoles like there is no tomorrow and upgrades sales projections to 25mil?

It's conceivable that they just have unprecedented number of units in the channel hence the availability.

I am very skeptical that there wouldn't be shortages even if temporary. The supply chain isn't THAT seamless and instant. Even with robust supply chains there would be gaps.

I don't know what is worse. One guy making a thread based on misinformation or the inevitable subsequent replies that pretend the thread represents the entirety of "GAF". Equally bad, imo

"Nintendo Switch 2 sales were able to offset double-digit percentage declines across each of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch."

Nintendo enters the room with Sony & Xbox :

"nu uh, I saw sum in da store and that proves iTz a FLAWP!111"

hey google how are the switch2 sales going ?

As of October 20, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2, which launched on June 5, 2025
, has sold over 6 million units globally. Early sales have been incredibly strong, with reports indicating it is Nintendo's fastest-selling console ever.

so then what's Nintendo's current plan ?

Oh .. okay I saw some on the shelf so im going to go start a thread about them failing anyway...

They said they produced a lot more this time around. I'd rather they be sitting on shelves where anyone can walk in and pick one up compared to trying to mash an order button online for months, or get lucky while walking into a store.

Might just be my feeling, but... with the amount of Switch 2 consoles that I see in stores week over week, my feeling is that the excitation has died down.

I hear nobody talking about it anymore and I don't see anyone even looking at the console in stores I go to regularly.

I made a prediction before it came out that it would sell like crazy at first because Nintendo fans would grab it like crazy, and then the interest would dwindle really fast after that.

I understand that Nintendo made and delivered much more units than other consoles before, but I was working retail when the Wii came out and I'm pretty sure it would have been sold out every day, even with 5x the units on shelves. The hype was insane and the console was sold out for 2 years in my city.

I've never seen the Switch 2 sold out up to now. Even on the day of release, it was very easy to grab one anywhere. There was multiple units at Costco, Best Buy, etc.

Anybody working retail at the moment with info about Switch 2 sales? Am I crazy?
Man now you are officially entered in the hate list of the Nintendo fans together with DF. Good luck.

I've came close to buying a Switch 2, but I realized I would pretty much never play it except for Metroid Prime 4.

Not to mention that Metroid Prime remastered never got a Switch 2 update.

Apple sells over 200 million iPhones a year and even immediately after launch you can go in a store and buy one with no drama.

Why people think "success" equals shortages, eBay scalping, mark-ups, having to set in stock notifications on your browser, etc., I have no clue.

The excitement has died down but I think sales are fairly good. Hitting 25M by March might be tough though. They might have overestimated short-term demand.

I was interested in one, then I noticed that you basically need to subscribe to Nintendo Online to enjoy it. Nintendo is really predatory with that shit. For Mario Kart 8 on Switch, they show you tracks and characters that you cannot use, because you are not a subscriber. They rub it in your face. And since it is mostly a console for my kids, I get to hear it nonstop. "Dad, why don't we have these tracks?" "Well I guess we can't play those because we do not have Nintendo Online :( " Seriously, fuck Nintendo. You can't even buy it as DLC. You NEED to subscribe.

Also, my kids are still plenty entertained by the Switch. No need to upgrade. And since Nintendo stopped catering to me and the games I enjoy, also another reason to not pick it up. They have really become a kiddy and nostalgia console. Well I do not have enough nostalgia to spend that kind of money on it.

Their sales projection is 20Mil by March, manufacturing is 25M by March. They updated sales projections from their initial 15M. It's going to be tough but Pokemon might push a lot of kids to upgrade during Christmas.

We will know more during their next report for sales I guess. It's impossible to tell otherwise, but by all reports it is selling decently well and otherwise Nintendo wouldn't have bumped up the supply.

If personal feelings was a good indicator for sales, Pokémon would be the deadest IP ever reading online, especially Scarlett/Violet (that are the 2th most sold games of the series ever).

Well Pokemon is going to give it an insane boost, so there's that. Beyond that though, it's doing fine. DK was an awesome game, and i'm having a blast playing through Mario Galaxy on Switch 2 at 4K 60 on my OLED....the game looks gorgeous. I'm gonna get Mario Galaxy 2 after that.

Odd to me still that they haven't put out that all but confirmed 60fps Switch 2 patch for Xenoblade chronicles X. We have Hyrule Age of Imprisonment coming too in a few weeks and MP4 in December.

Switch 2 (just like Switch) for me is all about 1st party Nintendo games. Anything beyond that, i play on PS5 and i have plenty to play at the moment on both systems.

Some of you desperately want Switch 2 to fail, basically same story as original Switch.

After WiiU GAF was pretty sure to themselves that Switch would fail but it didn't and got angry about it.

Nintendo just boosted production further. Just better stocked.

Hype on the internet has died down but I don't know if that means that real world sales are slowing down significantly or at all. We need up to date sales data to determine that.

yeah it was weird decision to keep a lot of third parties out of the loop until after launch.
Yeah I agree. Especially considering how dry the first three months were. Some of the late ports coming this fall (like Persona 3, Yakuza 1/2, and Sparking Zero) could've dropped over the summer if Nintendo planned things out better.

No they are not. I don't care about Call of Duty, EA, Ubisoft shit. Most single player physical games on Playstation are playable without an internet connection for a patch. PC games on GOG let you own games without DRM (you can just download the game and install it anywhere) as they are not connected to any DRM service like a launcher. But Game Key Cards are DRM. Game Key Cards are DRM.
Many of these games are single player. FYI most Yakuza games are on GOG. Its a shame that Hogwarts Legacy also requires Day 1 patch for PS5. But many single player games on Playstation require no day 1 patch.

Ideally Nintendo should have allowed 128 GB carts like the PS5 BD100 discs. But instead they introduced Game Key Cards.

I bought a Switch 2 in store, the day after launch. It isn't a lack of excitement. It's just Nintendo did an excellent job on producing a shit ton of units for the launch window.

That's where I'm at. Just got mine last week, mainly for the exclusives but a few titles I can play on the go which are kind of neat like Cyberpunk I plan on snagging too. The main draw for me was the announcement of Fire Emblem but the promise of Monolith's future endeavors is all I really need. Donkey Kong for me was the Killer App I needed to get the system though, as I love the terrain destruction and love platformers from yesteryear. And I can't stand apes lol.

I think as more exclusives are announced and come out that appeal to people they will start making the upgrade. I appreciate the plethora of supply available by Nintendo, though the Key Cards I don't like. Overall a nice improvement on the prior Switch and pairs well with my PS5 and future plans for PC main.
