Would Nintendo ever consider remaking Ocarina of Time using the BotW/TotK engine?

The only acceptable style…

I'd much rather see them doing a new Zelda, and in a different style than BotW and TotK. I love those games, but want something different for the next game.

It doesn't need it. Like, it really doesn't need it.

Create a graphical engine or something on top, but you can leave everything else as is.

I mean it was cartoony, just darker.

Look at this motherfucker:

It's the typical goofy Zelda side character, just without cell shading.
Nice cherry picked shots.

Here's what Twilight Princess actually looks like, in-game.

THIS is the style we want Zelda games to return to, with modern graphics utilized obviously.

NOT THIS...

Instead of remaking old games, I want them to make new shit instead.

That being said, if they re-release Wind Waker on Switch 2, I am gonna buy that shit instantly.

Wind Waker is stuck at 30fps. It definitely needs a new release.

Without the bloom shit they added to the Wii U version.

OoT was perfection so NO 👎
I was mainly thinking the exact same game with new skins. If the game was so amazing (which we both agree that it is) then the same game with new graphics would still be amazing wouldn't it? i'm not really suggesting the base game gets changed up, but updated visuals.

But what would be the advantage of doing this in the BotW engine?
Mainly better graphics. The atmosphere would be incredible. I'd love to replay through the dungeons and face all of the bosses with updated visuals.

This is a fairly recent post, so I'm bumping it. I was just trying to conceive Ocarina of Time like this, and I was wondering if some type of Nemesis system JUST for Ganon could be employed, as well. A more nuanced Ganon/Link relationship might see Ganon trying to turn the tables and make Link seem like Hyrule's enemy. Of course, if Link tears up a bunch of the countryside and abuses his Tears of the Kingdom powers, this would make it really easy to paint Link in a different light. So, even if you have these tools at your disposal, it might be best to use it in moderation.

I can't believe they haven't done a proper reimagining of OOT. The remake of the 3DS probably saved that device from commercial failure.

I don't think the BOTW engine without upgrades would do it justice though. I'd want it super detailed like the Wii U tech demo that had Twilight Princess graphics.

No need for a remake, you can play the original. Make a new Zelda game.

As has been mentioned already in this thread, Wind Waker at 4K, 120 FPS with improved lighting and QoL improvements would be welcomed.

That was such a beatiful bullshot trailer, saying that switch2 got enough power to make those graphics real, with lots more sprinkled on top :)

The impact and magic of Ocarina of Time stemmed from its release in an era before social media, YouTube, and the vast internet of today.

Rumors and legends arose from the words of other players, such as the location of the Triforce or the fairy that never appeared.

These experiences gave Ocarina of Time its unique appeal. It wouldn't have the same impact today.

I've beaten the original more than I can recall. We don't need a remake, we need a re-imagining. Take the core of OOT and soup it up for modern standards akin to what Square did with FF7.

I've been upscaling ocarina of time with texture mods on PC for almost decades now and that just doesn't cut it. The mods people make are pretty cool though.

I'd even rather have UE5 slop over the BotW/TotK art style, this is what we "saw in our mind's eye" when we first played them on the N64.

The main point of the BotW/TotK engine imo is the physics/chemistry system, which OOT wouldn't need anyway. The only reason to go for that would be because they have loads of assets the can copy and paste.

I'd rather see them use/replicate whatever engine they used for the WiiU demo. Maybe tweak it a bit to make it look more like OOT/cartoony and less like Twilight Princess/gloomy.

there's still not a single game on the market that looks this clean and polished in action btw.

do we have "technically" higher fidelity graphics than this? sure... but the near perfection of graphics demos, even as old and running on as low of a spec as this one, have yet to ever be reached

It would be nice if they asset flipped it with like 25% new material like Majora's Mask with OoT... And not have to wait 5 years for it.

Not even roasting Tears of the Tiktok Kingdom.

Unless you're going for a full reimagining, I don't see the point of using that particular engine. It's not like OoT's Hyrule field has a scale that would benefit, and the robust physics capabilities would go totally unused.

It still has darker aspects like the bloodmoon, the corrupted dragon or the gloomhands but I agree they have to go back to the TP world. It's such an underutilized world while before BotW it was the most successful entry in the franchise and it has one of the most popular characters in the series with Midna. There's like half a dozen of games using the TWW artstyle and now 4 games using the BotW artstyle, it's time to go back to TP. Also bring back the Twilis, coolest race.
I know this is an older post, but it just reminded me how much I HATED Midna. The most obnoxious companion by far, and her pedo-bait catgirl "thousand year old dragon" design was utterly offputting.

To your point, I'd love to see a return to TP-style visuals someday, maybe for a whole new trilogy, but not at the cost of dealing with Midna again. I'll take "Hey! LISTEN!!" or "Master, would you like to be interrupted for a redundant hint again?" 1000x over her shtick.
