Exactly. After this thing launches, Play Anywhere will just be a BC program basically. They could still keep updating it by having it be a condition for old GP games that get added. The more they shore it up, the less their PC ecosystem will be trapped on the Magnus chip. A lot of games that were not PA get added to GP and suddenly I have a PC version. They could pick off old games in a few years as cheap GP fodder and get them updated to PA for cheap, assuming they are even interested in that in a few years. What you are saying applies only to BC. There will likely be no Xbox console game SKUs next gen for play anywhere to even be relevant as a program anymore. Everything new would automatically play anywhere by default as they are all PC SKUs anyway across console, handheld and PC. So all they need is PC mode and BC mode. If you slap a tag on BC titles and get rid of PC gamepass as a separate thing, then all the user will see is one mode, one gamepass and free MP
Just guessing based on rumors, but seems like the best way forward imo.
I'm sure the word "curated" has a significant honest meaning, because MS has never used empty buzzwords before! As soon as Hi-Fi Rush went to PS5 I started taking out $100 a check. Got to $2k without even really noticing it a long time ago. I'm willing to entertain a premium device if it seems somewhat fair. Would be something new, and that sounds exciting. PC with training wheels is literally exactly what I want. They even used the word "curated." We should just wait and see what this even is.

It's a market that isn't directly compatible with the pricing and game access sensibilities of traditional console users, which is why I'm kind of shocked to see a notable amount of people willing to go over this route. So have an old console AND build a PC when you can sell one and get the new Xbox that does the job of both?
It's not that hard to see that there is a market for this new thing. How big a market... remains to be seen.
RetroGamingUK bro can you add a pool option "Not decided yet" ?
At this point, being able to decide is difficult. Even though I don't like the direction taken by Microsoft at all, I still have a shit-ton of games on Xbox. So I need to see exactly where we are headed in terms of hardware, features and price to decide.
Basically, this is too soon for me.
>first-party manufactured handheld console planning canned in favor of third-party manufactured, xbox-licensed portable PCs
>""next-generation"" device being pretty much a PC, putting to end the historical line of dedicated xbox console hardware
Sony is literally making all the stuff you actually want (PS6 and PS6 Portable), and yet you still refuse to make the jump to PlayStation. Why are you guys like this?
Yeah, agree. Price it's the big issue hereMight b cool. Probably not worth the price for me though. We'll see how the price vs performance comparison goes with the PS6.

You can get all of that by building your own PC, which you will be able to upgrade its parts whenever you need to.
Wanted to make a joke and link the Xbox merch store, but it's actually down lmaoHe wasn't interested, needs that Xbox sticker to feel at home.

ONQ moment…I was just thinking right after I posted that "$1500 may be too low". This Asus mini PC is almost $2.5k
Curious if this will be just 2X the cost of the PS6, or if it'll climb higher to 3X the cost.
Xbox Series WHY?What stupid name will they give it?
Xbox Series PC Console or XBOX Series Console PC?
AFAIK yes.Are devs still dropping games on the Xbox PC store and abandoning them?
So far, yeah. Unless the rumors turn out false, you've made the right guesses! Let's just hope you are wrong about price though. Lol.So everything I've been saying was right, imagine my surprise.

im sure there will need to be a "xbox" setting for games not he windows store. like we are starting see "Steam Deck" settings in pc games.I'm sure the word "curated" has a significant honest meaning, because MS has never used empty buzzwords before!
What stupid name will they give it?
Xbox Series PC Console or XBOX Series Console PC?
So people will know straight away what it is and what it isn't by the name!
Access to PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam is kind of sweet.Might b cool. Probably not worth the price for me though. We'll see how the price vs performance comparison goes with the PS6.
Interesting. Does it come with disc drive and remind me again how powerful is the Magnus GPU? Like 5080Rtx?
Xbox Magnus is a fine name.
Are devs still dropping games on the Xbox PC store and abandoning them?
But that is AMD's codename, right? Personally I think it should be simplye "Xbox PC"
Honestly I don't get it either. If this same thing was happening to PS your out of your mind if you think I'm buying some $1500+ device and being invested in that ecosystem any longer than I have to. Especially when it's clearly on shaky ground as it is. I'd happily move over to Xbox and slowly purchase any game I'm missing back and I guarantee I end up not even coming close to spending $1500.>first-party manufactured handheld console planning canned in favor of third-party manufactured, xbox-licensed portable PCs

I mean it is a Magnus and it is AMD. Most people no nothing about the codenames for these chipsets. How many people would you say know that the Switch 1 is an Nvidia Tegra? I'd say less than 5% of the ownership.
So it's just a matter of delaying updates until the console version gets updated?Abandoning is a harsh word.
They aren't so much as "abandoning" them, it's more that for play anywhere versions they need to keep the version control in lock-step with the xbox console version so that things like saves, co-op/multiplayer etc stay compatible across the two versions.
Remember the sticker shock for the fat PS3 having onboard BC chip?

Yeah great 4d chess moves by MS.. all according to plan.
This is sarcasm right ? Right ? Padame.gif
So it's just a matter of delaying updates until the console version gets updated?
I may have misunderstood the original complaints. I thought they were being neglected after release.
True. And those will fall under BC and treated as such. If it's not on play anywhere and you already own it, it's BC mode. GTA 6 will be the Series X version if no PC version is available by then. Though I fully expect the series X/S version to not be available for purchase on Magnus if a PC version is available as well. That would fit right into their Smart Delivery strategy. There probably won't be any Next Gen console games... but given dev lifecycles there might be Non PC Console (Series S/X) games released after this thing launches.
I don't think so. It sounds like you would need to switch between Xbox mode and Windows mode, which means that the game would still be available on the storefront of the Xbox mode.Though I fully expect the series X/S version to not be available for purchase on Magnus if a PC version is available as well.

If I understand Microsoft's naming conventions correctly, they'll call it "Xbox Windows And Native Kernel", which will be shortened to XWANK. They will use this nomenclature unironically. But that is AMD's codename, right? Personally I think it should be simplye "Xbox PC"
I am from the International Ghost Network and can confirm. We need a IGN article to confirm this.
If that's the route they go, then I agree. Wii U and Wii had a clean line drawn for BC. But I think the whole goal here is to erase all these lines.I don't think so. It sounds like you would need to switch between Xbox mode (purely for BC) and Windows mode, which means that the game would still be available on the storefront of the Xbox mode.
Look up how the Wii U handled Wii backwards compatibility, because this thing sounds exactly like it.
BC being as grey as it is, I expect some devs will exercise their right to opt-out.True. And those will fall under BC and treated as such.
