Why do we need to decide if we want to buy one within hours of it being announced? No reviews available. No testing. No price.

Why do you guys feel the need to make these declarations?

But I'm also excited to get my hands on the GabeCube.
 
I'd not buy an expensive and underpowered PC, I'd rather keep using my consoles instead to fill the same role. On the other hand, Installing Steam OS on your existing and more powerful PC is much more enticing.

Same reason people buy mini-pcs and laptops. There is a market for form-factor PCs.
 
I need to see how it performs in the real world. If it turns out to have decent performance at $400 or less, I might bite and finally have that living room PC experience I've been chasing.

799 for the 256gb and 949 for the 1tb version...but I think I am even high for the 512 version. If it comes in at $699 they are going to crush it. If it comes in at $1500 only folks bought into VR will purchase it (imo...and I am one of those). This is a mass appeal product since it can be used with almost your entire steam library so I hope they can bring it in at a price the masses are willing/are able to afford.

I run the specs trought CGPT with the quote "Valve said the price would be consistent with the specifications" and this is what I got:

"Several sources predict a price of $650-$750 (approximately €600-€700 at the current exchange rate) for the base model, which undervalues the consoles while reflecting its power (6x more than the Deck).

My final estimate:

512GB model: €650-700 (likely launch price, to remain competitive).
2TB model: €750-850 (add ~€100-150 for storage).

This positions the Steam Machine as an affordable "console PC," more powerful than a PS5 but more compact than a standard gaming PC. If Valve follows its Deck strategy, we could see promotions or bundles with the new Steam Controller."

Was replying to the cost on the headset. I too expect the steam box to be around $450 to $599 for the base model.
 
We need more information and time on this one.

People forget, while the deck was a success for valve, their other hardware hasnt flown off shelves.

It could end up being a very disappointing product
 
I think if you told someone in public then they wouldn't know wtf you're talking about. This thing is going to be niche and irrelevant within 2 years because there's 0 audience for this outside of enthusiasts.
 
Im super happy it exist and truely hope it succeeds, as it could be the thing that truely free's us from MS's grip on PC gaming. But its not made for most of us, its too low powered and weak. Its for casuals who want a cheap no fuss entry point. And thats a great thing as it could massively expand the PC market place. I may buy a few for friends to throw my support behind it, but again its not for those of us who love hardware and performance.

That is indeed my biggest worry. Its not made for the enthusiast as its way to weak, but it has very little visibility to casuals who would be its 99.9% market. I hope it succeeds, but its got a mountain to climb..

Can't wait to buy a Steam Box off Craigslist to put next to my Google Stadia controller on the Shelf of Failed Experiments, right between my Ouya, Kinect, PS Vita TV, and that unopened copy of Anthem.
 
I don't get the hate. This is literally a Mac Mini alternative with Steam Os and your whole Steam library.

I love the idea. It's a modern day GameCube and it will give Sony AND Nintendo, some well needed competition.
