Replaying cyberpunk2077 for no reason. Can we get rid of prologues? My GOD they are in insufferable.

It's interesting that in the 5th gen and a good chunk of the 6th, cutscenes were unskippable.
You'd think the devs woulda thought that most players would happily skip a 5-minute cutscene that plays just before a difficult challenge or boss fight, after failing repeatedly. But no. Unskippable cutscenes are the reason people like me have some degree of PTSD when Kingdom Hearts, FFX or Onimusha are mentioned.
They're also probably the reason why "master of unlocking" and "Jill sandwich" have endured as memes for way longer than anyone would have thought, though.

I'm PISSED Capcom went and bought real actors. We need that goated amateur 90's voice actors.

But I'll give credit to The Witcher 3. They give you an option to "skip training"
so it def helps when replaying. More games need shit like that. Some do. Some have that "skip tutorial".
But I want A "Skip prologue". That's what I want

Phantom Pain is in a league of its own when it comes to disrespecting the player's time.

Not only does it force the player to replay the entire prologue/tutorial section for no reason, it's filled with senseless padding like mine clearing missions, "rescuing" kids and resource extractions. There are like ten actually fleshed out missions with cutscenes and narrative implications in that entire game.

Deeply unserious game.

You can even on console IF you have Phantom Liberty.
Just choose the option when prompted at the very beginning after choosing the difficulty.

I'm not disagreeing, I just think it's a non issue. Plus you picked one of the worst games to complain about as Cyberpunk has 3 different prologues to choose from. Ideally, every game would have "alternative start" mode like we see modders do for Bethesda games.
 
The only reason I ever played any of RDR2 is because I was able to download a save file that started the game for me after the prologue. When the game originally came out for PlayStation, I bounced off of it hard after about 15 minutes of slowly riding my horse through the snow.

Cyberpunk - I hate everything about Jackie and the forced prologue with him.

GTAV - I've never played past the first 15-20 minutes of the game. The bank heist gone wrong was fine, but the forced race/chase/whatever after you repo the cars was immediately not fun.

Currently, Where Winds Meet has a terrible prologue - it's just a confusing mess.

Prologues that are heavy on narrative and don't have too much gameplay fuckign suck yeah.

But they can be done right too:





I specially like the one in Dragon's Dogma. 1 minute into the game and you are already fighting enemies, and have a boss fight in the first 10 minutes. 15 minutes in and you already know what the game's about and what to expect of it.

Oh hell yeah. Done right, they're amazing. But it feels like many games hate the player and just want some 2 hour movie to start a game.

I don't mind story-heavy games but come on lol.

Oh and here's another one and a good example: Baldur's Gate II. Story heavy as they get, but you start the game with a short-dialogue and ready to crawl through a very cool dungeon.

They serve to set the scene on a first playthrough but on a replay they are boring and annoyingly time consuming. Nothing else to get.

Games done right. Hell yeah. Again it's why I say dark souls is goated. More lore and story than most games and yet you're in asap on the game

I'm not a super fan of From's way of telling stories, but something that's cool about it is that if you care about the story and lore it's all there for you to enjoy. But if you don't care, it doesn't get in the way and lets you enjoy the games with 0 interruptions. Very nice.

Many games thankfully allow you to skip their Prologue.

The first time around, I generally play them. They provide context, serve as a kind of tutorial, etc.
But you don't have a need for any of that in subsequent playthroughs. You just want to get into the game.
 
I assume the issue is more specifically with games which are defined mostly by their freedom, having prologues which prevent access to that until you have completed them.
 
My problem with CP2077's prologue is they give pointless montage spending time with Jackie….I personally wish they would let's us do couple of missions with him and properly get know him which would made his death more impactful.

You should be able to shoot Jackie in the head the first time you see him to completely skip all of his nonsense in CP77

CP77 and RDR2 are tied for having the absolute worst intros of any game for me. I'd rather play the 4-hour-long, non-combat intro to the original Dragon Quest VII on repeat than ever play through the intro of RDR2 or have to deal with Jackie ever again.
 
Could've been done with the prologue if you didn't stop to write about it?

I appreciate what they did with Jackie. Another 10 missions and his loss would have hit harder.

Cyberpunk is top five for me, prologue included.
 
Don't need to get rid of them, but I would very much like an option to skip them if I want, just get me into the middle of a game.
Avatar Fronteirs of Pandora has an almost painful long opening.

There's a videogame from '85 called Super Mario Bros. that also starts without a prologue. Don't know if you were joking, but Dark Souls was nowhere near the first game to deliver "right into action" gameplay.

The worse one is RDR 2, imo. You cant skip it, and it goes for way too long.

At least CDPR has patched braindances in Cyberpunk to be skipable.

Because they most of the time teach you the mechanics and are by definition in a very small, enclosed area because the devs are afraid letting you loose in a big open world will confuse the fuck out of people, whereas this is exactly the point that everybody is rushing to on subsequent playthrough. They should be optional once you finish them once.
