Sony literally released the PS Vita TV which was a vita without a screen intended to be connected to a TV only. Guess how popular that was? About as popular as a Switch without a portable screen.

Once again, it didn't change how the games played on the tv vs how they played portably. The Switch was specifically designed to output games differently on a tv vs portably. Hence, it's different than a simple portable and is in fact a hybrid.

The console specifically plays differently portably than on the tv. Like I said in my initial response to you, they lost the home console war to Sony. They chose this hybrid route. Unlike the portables before it, it was specifically designed to play games differently on a tv screen. It's a hybrid. My laptop isn't designed to operate with increased performance in my docking station or plugged into my tv.

So I want to be clear, nothing you are saying has ever changed how we've labeled those devices in other industries. You have phones that can act as mini projectors, be outed to 4K, you have phones that literally can play console games, but have never actually lumped in those devices with "home consoles" anymore then we have with Laptops just based on "doCKinG" into some device. This narrative makes little sense cause what they are doing, has been done in other industries without anyone trying to force a label of the device magically being something else.

We understood it was a phone, we get its a laptop, just like many of us get Switch is a portable....

I think most agree with 1

2 and 3 are debatable as that is more so based on personal taste.

I'm surprised PS4 is still around with so many still playing (I blame Fortnite, but I like seeing PS4 get support to anger SlimySnake and to delay PS5 gen titles lol )

I think that list is based on specific games and not consoles actually being played. Since it's "howlongtobeat" it probably means games on those systems had the most play time. So if someone was playing a Switch 1 game on Switch 2 and they were using that site, it'd be recorded as a Switch 1 game.

Same deal for PS4 on there. That could be high up because PS5 players were playing PS4 games.

Even PS2 is on that list. There's no way they'd be able to track console play time, but recorded game playtime users submit and they tie that game playtime to the console of origin.

Laptops have had a "battery saving" and a "performance" profile when plugged in for decades. It didn't make them less capable of being plugged into a monitor when they didn't have this or more a desktop now than before. They didn't suddenly become desktop computers when that was introduced and plugging into a monitor wasn't an afterthought before performance profiles. Not sure how that is relevant. They didn't suddenly become classed as "hybrids" because of it.

That's why exclusives are so important. Gran Turismo isn't my cup of tea, but I also like some that are locked to Sony consoles, like Astro Bot, but there's no way I'm buying a system because of 2-3 exclusives. I'd rather wait for the PC port or emulate it in a decade, as is already happening with Bloodborne. There are plenty of games available to worry about just a few. Hopefully, Sony will increase the number of exclusives to justify buying their hardware, or simply port everything without any distinction.

I was talking about switch 2, with ram prices gong up and looking at November sales WW, plus software sales in general this thing is not gonna touch ps5, they had a good run with switch 1 but switch 2 is not gonna be anywhere nears as profitable as ps5.

But this concept had existed. Sure it has become more refined compared to 2007 but what hasn't?
The design philosophy with laptops is identical. You have bluetooth keyboards and mice, you have display ports, even docks, you have separate controllers, you even have external GPUs that give you desktop graphical power. It has different profiles plugged in vs portable battery. A laptop is still a laptop though. A tablet is still a tablet, a mobile is still a mobile despite samsung DeX. Samsung can't be making the claim that they're winning the "computing wars" against Macs or Surface because DeX exists and when somebody mentions they're pretty different markets claim they're "playing semantics" because "a computing device is a computing device".

You know.. I watched the video.. he is not really wrong. He didn't say anything new really either. but its what we have been saying for a while now. consoles were usually bought for 2 reasons:

1- The price and ease of use compared to a PC when it comes to gaming
2- exclusives.

1- is still a valid point, but its gone outside of Nintendo. So he is pretty much saying that. if you can have a PC, then getting excited about consoles isn't really a thing. I mean.. you can already have a console that is more powerful than a PS6 ... just depends on your budget lol.

With that being said, Switch 2 didn't win anything. I need to see the games. MP4 is meh. Donkey Kong was ok but not a killer app game. I love Mario Kart World so they got that. but my Switch 2 is collecting dust at this point. Still not gonna sell it because I was lucky to get a unit without light bleed or dead pixels, and I already have Dbrand stuff on it including the screen protector, so its here to stay for years. but its not being used almost at all.

Sony doesn't have contracts with the military and intelligence of different countries, and isn't part of the deep state and hedge fund gangs. In any case what they do with stuff unrelated to gaming or how they perform doesn't matter in a gaming forum unless it affects them, which isn't then for Sony or MS.

Well, in case of MS it affects: their highly unprofitable gaming division would have been shut down decades ago if it wasn't due to the profits provided by the governments and so on.

It might pass it, but I strongly believe that the PS2 has almost every other console beaten when it comes to games. I think that to crown a console, one should consider two criteria: The platform sales/reach, and its software line-up. The Wii sold better that the HD twins, but the latter easily dominated it in terms of titles catalogue...
