While people may have sticker shock at that number, go out to pcpartpicker.com and try putting together a list of parts for a complete machine to see how it compares.

My expectation is they push the launch of this thing back due to hardware cost increases, and when they do put it out, it will have 16GB of RAM.

So pretty much similar (if you add tax) to a comparable prebuilt.

If it werent for the memory prices going crazy this wouldnt look very good, but i bet its fake/placeholder. Valve reps were bragging about making good deals with suppliers and wanting to offer slightly better deals than DIY would well before that, so this look overpriced for the initial batch before it inevitably goes up, unless they want to charge us more right away and/or keep the same price.

Why would a Chech retailer know the price of a Steam machine? Steam machines will only be sold by Valve exclusively on the Steam store.

Anything listed outside of the Steam store will be by scalpers.

No way it'll have 16 GB of Ram. They can't do that. NO WAY!

But then how will I play 007: First Light?

I mean what did everyone expect with this inflation/tariffs/RAM situation?
Exactly.

I wouldn't even consider these prices as "legit" until they're confirmed and final. But come on, they aren't going to be cheap, especially with all the dumb shit going on with components. It's just not possible. After everything going on if you're expecting it to be $400ish dollars you need a wake up call, lol.

I'm SURE they'd love for it to be cheaper, but they're a company, it's a business, and there's a reality here.

I'm not a math wizard but with all the rising pricing of ram and gfx cards etc is this still cheaper than building the same specs yourself?

I'm sure it'll be expensive, but it's hard to trust these insiders - especially after the Half-Life 3 announcement "leaks" last year.
