Seems reasonable for the power that's being discussed.

But going grom a 499euro xbox to a over 1000. Will put of almost everyone in the console space. So many ex xbox user joined ps5 in the last few months reddit is full of them snd other forums. a much more expensive device will not bring them back especially when they started already investing in psn eco system. there is simply no reason to own an xbox anymore maybe library. But for that you can keep or buy a cheap SX as i did. i bought one for 250 euro just 2 weeks ago just for fun.Seems reasonable for the power that's being discussed.

compare that to a ps6 for 599 or 699 tops . 699 is expensive for a base console but with zero competition. And ps6 pro that will surpass magnus in 2030/2031 999 l€ i can see it.
kinda funny this time no pro console from xbox. now they go all out and sony will btinb with a pro a stronger device after 3/4 years.
Ms is fucked in the head. Absolute morons who must work there and make decisions. The competition doesnt even need to try. i will never understand whats going on there the last decade.
PCs don't need to be upgraded as often as they did years ago, and the idea is to have a compact, console-style PC with an OS adapted for controllers and at a lower price than it would cost to buy the parts separately, basically the same concept offered by Valve with the Steam Machine or even Apple with its Mac mini.Yes a pc no one can upgrade is a dream come true then maybe the legendary Pc 2 is still possible after all. If its not even upgradable AND expensive its DOA. Like the Steam machine. Who in his right mind would buy an expensive pc that you have to throw away after a while like a laptop?
Who says there won't be a new, more powerful first party version of Magnus Xbox after a while? In fact, that would make the most sense... starting with the fact that (according to Kepler's information) the architecture is designed to make it easy to upgrade each part of the hardware without modifying the core.. And ps6 pro that will surpass magnus in 2030/2031 999 l€ i can see it.

They're trying to take the "android" approach to consoles. A reference "G1" like device and OEMs making others. I've said this before back in 2024:Well... There you have it. Microsoft is leaving the console business. It will build a reference pc with Xbox branding and licensing to partners. I wonder if they will lock the console games compatibility to the magnus SoC. That will make the next Xbox a target platform but will undermine the PC philosophy. Once this cycle finishes and the Xbox console players upgrade. I think gamepass will implode.
They are hoping their content library will launch a new android-like platform for games on OEM devices. They have some pretty big franchises under their belt now but I don't think it's going to work out as well as they hope to be honest.
Yes, it is also a market with less risk for both the user and Microsoft itself. They don't need to sell at a loss, and if they only sell a few units, they will continue to receive games until the end as part of a more open platform.I mean it's been obvious for some time now. MS is trying to take over the pc gaming market by making windows a " steam machine like " experience with having devs put in " Xbox " standard settings.
The non obvious thing is .. is MS deal with AMD really a BC SOC Xbox standard hardware or just a standardize baseline Xbox PC spec?
Who says there won't be a new, more powerful first party version of Magnus Xbox after a while? In fact, that would make the most sense... starting with the fact that (according to Kepler's information) the architecture is designed to make it easy to upgrade each part of the hardware without modifying the core.
That being said, haven't people noticed that Microsoft doesn't intend to release a mass-market product? It's clear the idea is a non-subsidized product (or at least not in the way a console is normally subsidized), not aimed at the masses but something premium for hardcore gamers that offers access to the largest possible catalog while also serving as the foundation for other third-party products to promote Windows as a gaming platform and, consequently, its ecosystem encompassing both its own and third-party devices where to sell Game Pass and monetize the Xbox console fan user base and some PC users.
That's the plan, not compete with PS for sell 30-40-50 or whatever millons ; whether it works or not is another matter.
They are trying something different that fits their current reality and that of the company (supporting two different and separate gaming platforms (PC Win-Xbox console) within the same playing field has always been double work and a constant clash of interests... Because the traditional subsidized console that competes with PlayStation in the world has not worked and now even less so when you become the biggest game publisher in the world and you need your studios' games to reach the maximum number of potential users.....![]()

we will see. i dont see base consoles that expensive. sony had contract agreements long before the ram surgeI am sure you are correct with some of your comment but I could easily say plenty of old Xbox fans have moved to PC so this MAY make sense for them.
Nvidia sells LOADS of rtx 5090 GPUs that might be 20 to 30 percent more powerful than a RTX 5080. If you think the PS6 will be 599 or even 699 with 30GB of memory in 2027, I have a bridge to sell you. Even if it is 799 there would be those who would pay 500 to 600 more even if its only GENUINELY 30 percent more powerful.
I agree, MS last decade is an absolute joke but saying people wouldnt pay 1299 for a device that beats out a console at 699. It will happen.
if you want to play aaa yes you need unless yoj stick to 1080p even then some game rips hardware. since gamers buy everything anyway there is no need to optimise more anymorePCs don't need to be upgraded as often as they did years ago, and the idea is to have a compact, console-style PC with an OS adapted for controllers and at a lower price than it would cost to buy the parts separately, basically the same concept offered by Valve with the Steam Machine or even Apple with its Mac mini.
And I'm considering buying one for the living room if it turns out to be a good deal, but that remains to be seen.
nobody said that but its premium for a reason. ms would gladly put gamepass on switch and sony consoles too. endgoal gamepass everywhere exit hardware market.Who says there won't be a new,
Then they will turn around and sue Sony for unfair market practices, I bet. All of a sudden, the 30% cut and the closed ecosystem will be problematic. They're trying to take the "android" approach to consoles. A reference "G1" like device and OEMs making others. I've said this before back in 2024:
Their OS is likely to be locked down like Android/Windows Phone. Not as open as a PC but not as closed as Xbox Series either. They will allow different app stores but push their own on it.
No, not at all. The RTX 3000 series, which was launched in 2020, can still run modern AAA games with high graphics at 1440p or even 4k using DLSS.if you want to play aaa yes you need unless yoj stick to 1080p even then some game rips hardware. since gamers buy everything anyway there is no need to optimise more anymore
Depending on the game, we had quite a few heavy hitters in the last few years and i you want to use RT then yes absolutely. also dlss 4.5 cost too much performance on older than ada.No, not at all. sure but if they already have a pc just upgrade that instead ofbuying another pc?!
its tragic xbox is gone since competition is good for us. nvidia shows what it means no competition shrinkflation plus price trippling within a decade
You don't need to maximize the graphics settings tho, there's always a point of diminishing returns. As for RT, it's because these are added modes designed for the latest hardware available, but they're a bonus that in many cases isn't worth it.Depending on the game, we had quite a few heavy hitters in the last few years and i you want to use RT then yes absolutely. also dlss 4.5 cost too much performance on older than ada.
That sounds okay... The only problem is it doesn't sound like Microsoft.Who says there won't be a new, more powerful first party version of Magnus Xbox after a while? In fact, that would make the most sense... starting with the fact that (according to Kepler's information) the architecture is designed to make it easy to upgrade each part of the hardware without modifying the core.

Bit early to making those kind of statements isn't it? Everything we've heard so far are rumours, seems like Gaf believe anything and everything these day's.Too hardcore for casuals, too limited for the hardcore.
Fair point but extremely niche for such an expensive device if a cheap series console can too its just a nice little bonus at best, lets see how it plays out.THeres so many points why an XBox fan may buy this box, and also a PC player.
I would buy one for my bedroom, or a spare room. Many others would. Its not just a PC, its a PC that plays all of your previous xbox purchases that run on a series X. Thats not a PC of todays standard.
Neither is the Switch 2. But apparently anything that can connect to a TV qualifies.its not a console im already sick of this.

i use a cheap sx for that. since i have pretty much invested in all eco systems in my life. i bought some games 3 times for each system![]()
We knew about all this since the October of last year. MS is not really hiding it.Bit early to making those kind of statements isn't it? Everything we've heard so far are rumours, seems like Gaf believe anything and everything these day's.
Concrete information it's not, I'd say it's probably 60 percent correct but I'd rather wait and see. I quite like the concept though, it's just will they price it too high? That would be a no from me if it is.We knew about all this since the October of last year. MS is not really hiding it.
would be disappointed.
nobody said that but its premium for a reason.
Microsoft would certainly want it, but Sony and Nintendo will never want it because they will always prefer their 30% of Xbox games sold, their own subscriptions, and not Microsoft monetizing Switch 2 and a PS6.ms would gladly put gamepass on switch and sony consoles too. endgoal gamepass everywhere exit hardware market.
Magnus look like more than a simple Xbox device. It is a base for múltiple devices and a XBOXNext Pro coulf perfectly be a part.magnus is the last xbox device.
i mean why does a series s cost almost as much as a ps5 digital? or sx almost a ps5 pro.
And that's why the hardware plan is to create something that serves two purposes: First, as a destination for the hardcore fanbase and their regular Game Pass subscribers.they dont want you to buy a console they want you to subscribe to gamepass ultimate no matter where you play.![]()
That's going to be the important point, not whether it deserves to be called a PC or a console. It's about how they're going to transform Windows into something that delivers a console-like experience and satisfies users who are specifically looking for that, while also satisfying PC gamers who currently see Windows as a disaster compared to the competition (Linux). This is supposed to be the foundation for attracting both existing and new users to the ecosystem.i also see that as the smartest move at this point. they should just optimize windows at gaming much much more maybe an os extra for gaming only and let them fight with linux the next decade.
Notice how SteamDeck has only sold 4-5 million units, yet it's on everyone's lips as a benchmark device (even for developers and studios), and people are enjoying it. The same goes for those who own a ROG Xbox Ally or other Windows handhelds, which are being targeted by publishers and studios.Oh, I am not saying this thing is going to be a success. It might sell 5 million units. I am just saying there will be people who will want it and buy it. If its 1299 and sells 10 million units I think thats insane. I could see 5 million.
If you would market a bag full of shit well enough soneone would buy it. Do i dont see your point in here.Oh, I am not saying this thing is going to be a success. It might sell 5 million units. At 1299 people will rather buy a Ps6 and a cheap oled tv, Lifes got very expensive for most people and most is the massmarket aka buying power. No one cares for the top few % and they also know that. But ms is probably so dumb to think if nvidia can sell expensive hw we can too. Haha who knows. But it will be a fire entaining to watch i mean its Ms all in all the xbox division is just a very small part of ms.
Because they have fuck you money or really want one.Why do people buy a 5090 instead of a 5080?
That's your answer.
Then they will turn around and sue Sony for unfair market practices, I bet. All of a sudden, the 30% cut and the closed ecosystem will be problematic.

Since when is sn xbox in thag space? Xbox is pretty much dead outside of the usa.
i dont know a single person here in austria who has one. its 98% Sony or Pc. Pretty much in all of europe. Seems like smart move.
But maybe us customers willfullfill what you think, they wont.
I think you are super closePiecing together that various things said about the next Xbox by those in the know, including our very own K KeplerL2 andHeisenbergFX4 (and some assumptions).
Seems Microsoft is definitely straddling the fence between PC and console, but more on the console side due to BC. The more I think about it the more I see the online paywall going away. Removing the last remnant of XLG will cost MS a good bit of revenue and quite a few GP subscribers. Obviously, the price will limit appeal quite a bit, but unsubsidized means lower production numbers and costs. Said before but this looks like a bridge device to move gamers away from Xbox console and more towards Windows gaming.
- Small form factor, designed for entertainment center
- Relatively powerful in context of today's systems
- Unsubsidized, exspensive
- Locked down Windows 11. No ability to install other operating systems. Only apps available from the MS store. Crucial distinction in determining if it is a PC or a console
- BC. Needs console status to be able to bring forward Xbox games due to licensing.
- No online paywall. Doesn't make sense to keep this around if it wants any chance to appeal to PC gamers
- Only approved mods can be installed, if they are even allowed. Possibily monetized a la Bethesda
I think you are super close
I know you meant this but also talking about the Xbox first party device here and not the OEM machines, for those wondering![]()

Knowing WC posting patterns... Some really bad news ahead, huh?

Do they even still sell XBL Gold?I think you've nailed it here.
I can see them getting rid of the online pay wall purely because there's probably not many people left who aren't on gamepass. It's literally the main reason to keep your Xbox now i suppose.
