it does do ai upsacling for all games i belive in enxt update 2.0Pro should be a massive step up compared to base PS5 but it's just a step on a step ladder.
You're not wrong, but I can't think of a single game I'd pay modern PC (and especially GPU) prices for personally. My primary point was just that people will upgrade from something like a 60 or 70 series to a 70 or 80 series even though most of the improvements are largely just extra fps with no substantial visual upgrades. At the end of the day having options isn't a bad thing.I'm no expert on PC gaming but PCs are open systems and have vast variety of options to customize graphical setting and the diffidence between ultra setting and mid setting on PCs is bigger than between Pro and base on consoles.
I believe you mean Series X.difrent type of marketing etc, xbox one was under powered froom the start and xbox one x was actually trying to compete with ps5 ,not even joing tht was mcirosft marketing
lol no there were no $700 gaming pcs that came with any decent gpus to match the ps5 pro. not even close.
There's literally articles written about this, it's not a secret. Just maybe your cope that its worth having a digital $700 pointless upgrade:Names please. I already knew this thread would ended with idiotic overdrammatic assertions.
100%. I'm VERY pleased with mineIt's kinda beastly actually, especially for $700.
all of those also have half the storage. also, I thought we hated framegen? There were like a dozen different 5060 systems readily available in the $700's over the Holidays (some still are), I know cause I was tasked with finding the cheapest decent gaming PCs for my nephews friends and cousins.

The 5060 is maybe 10% slower than the Pro's GPU, but has the vastly superior image quality of DLSS 4.5 (usable at lower resolutions), Reflex, and Framegen. Many recent games effectively aren't even supporting Pro, or extremely halfassed.
pssr 2.0 sjould do all games automaticly and old games prior gens supposblyYup. I've been saying this since day one. This shit is underpowered and overpriced. PSSR is broken in a lot of games and you rarely get fidelity + performance. Add to that the fact that most developers don't give a fuck and you're left wondering why you spent 800€ for that.
In retrospect, I think the PS5 Pro has been disappointing for two main reasons. Disappointing does not mean bad though.
One is the price, which considering the spec bump was a bit steep, plus we didn't even get the stand or disc drive included which inflated the already high asking price even more. The PS4 Pro was much more sensibly priced at the original PS4 launch price even though it, like the PS5 Pro, was really just a GPU upgrade (along with a small CPU overclock).
The second reason is perhaps the one that underwhelmed me the most and that is PSSR which has been quite frankly a huge letdown and is riddled with flaws and nowhere close to even DLSS 2 in terms of image stability. I was hoping for better after years of AMD's lousy FSR on consoles, but the reality was that it really wasn't fit for release. Too many games have been released with PSSR that have issues - speckling and shimmering - and a good number of those have been fully fixed. It is telling how mediocre PSSR is that rather than fix it developers instead offered an option to turn it off instead. If PSSR was good in the first place, then there would be no need to turn it off. There is hope in the future that this will be fixed via a system wide PSSR update but I will not be holding my breath that it will magically fix all PSSR's issues. We'll see I guess.
Also, having games that look and/or run worse than on the base system is another negative against the Pro. That should never happen with ANY game in my opinion.
If I had to rate the PS5 Pro then I'd give a 6.75 out of 10. Better than PS5 in many ways - more base storage, a nicer design, a better GPU with more capable RT handling - it would be great if it was priced the same as the base system at launch (with the base system being cheaper) but let down by its price, the lacklustre PSSR and its meagre spec bump (no overclocked or enhanced CPU, no additional RAM, etc).
Overall, for $699 I don't think there's a better priceerformance option on on the market right now
ah, my bad. still the best at that price point and reinforces my point about the economy - completely different world that's now making early adoption the better investment? It's $749 now.
Every time this topic comes up, I reiterate the same thing: The PS5 Pro is the worst system I've ever bought. Overpriced, shit hardware where the only significant "improvement" is software-based gimmickry. An absolute embarrassment.
Charge me more if you have to, but give me actual goddamn better hardware.
uh oh!!!!
you are attacking the cult
How can a "pro" gaming device be based on AMD zen 2 architecture from over 5 years ago?
bro you got 2.4x the storage and 60% more GPU compute. you got better hardware chief, it's AMD's shitty upscaling that's letting you down
The big draw of the pro has always been the significantly improved GPU and this is the first pro console that has failed to deliver that at this point in time. Ideally, we'd have expected a 2-3x boost in compute along with the rt features and a bigger boost to bandwidth. So, 72 cus using a butterfly design similar to the PS4 Pro.The CPU still sucks.
Like, what I want next time is: at launch, give me the PlayStation 6 Professional for $2000 and load it up with actual high end parts. However ridiculous the pricing sounds, people will buy it. Particularly those who like the console experience and consistent performance but are tired of being saddled with only bad options as far as the actual hardware.
Not having to hear a jet engine puts the ps5 pro in a huge advantage over ps4 pro.I think it's worse than the ps4 pro for sure.
But, sadly it will be the best way to play Sonys games day one until they come to pc so I just hope the future games are better supported than death stranding 2 which is why I bought the pro.
I used to be part of the Ps cult, I got out of it!Is it PlayStation's week to be the cult? I thought it was Nintendo's. Last week was Xbox.
I can't keep up.
The CPU still sucks.

its coming just wait.Slightly a year after the PS5 Pro launched, I think it's safe to say that it has failed to meet the expectations people have as a pro device. To break it down, let's look at the chart below:

Before we delve into the chart, let's discuss the PS4 Pro. The ps4 was favorably received due to it's increase in performance and it's price. It offered a notable jump from the PS4 at the same price.
The ps4 pro boosted the resolution from 900p-1080p on the base ps4 to 1440p-2160p on the ps4 pro. There wasn't too much attention paid to increasing the individual graphics settings but that did occur in some games.
The main complaint about the ps4 pro was that it primarily boosted resolution and did very little for frame rates. While valid, that complaint was due primarily to the anemic Jaguar cpus. A higher frequency didn't yield significantly more performance.
Looking at the Xbox One X, it was even better received than the PS4 Pro. It boosted resolutions from 720p-1080p on the Xbox One to 1800p-2160p on the Xbox One X.
When we compare the PS5 pro to the previous pro consoles, in all but Raytracing and Storage, it's basically a worse hardware improvement than previous pro consoles. The GPU fails to hit the 2x compute unit mark provided by the PS4 pro talk less of the Xbox One X.
The CPU frequency increase is worse than previous pro consoles as is the TFs, GPU clock speed, etc. So far, we have not seen large increases in resolution similar the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. We have seen some frame rate improvements in cpu limited games however, we're seeing no more than a 10% improvement there.
Technologies like PSSR and Improved RT were supposed to increase the value proposition. However, outside of a handful of games, both of these features have failed to deliver.
Price is the biggest issue with the ps5 pro. a 40% increase in price over the base ps5 while being a complete downgrade from the PS4 Pro. To make matters worse, it doesn't even come with a disk drive.
What is a point of a pro console if you can't learn from the previous pro iteration? Charging a price premium for such a downgrade is a real head scratcher. Unfortunately for those looking forward to the PS6, it appears that Playstation is on track to offer a worse value proposition once again.
The rumored PS6 is supposed to have a marginal improvement in memory bandwidth, compute units, smaller chip, smaller tdp, while boasting a nice increase in price. Rumors do suggest that improved RT, ML capabilities and architectural improvements will make the PS6 a significant boost over the ps5 pro.
However, we have heard these exact rumors before in the lead up to the ps5 pro and we can see the results. AMD often misses their GPU performance targets so it would not be surprising to see that happen again with RDNA 5.
I'm on Team PS5 pro is a failure right now. Maybe that will change as the gen progresses but I don't see it. How does Gaf feel about the PS5 Pro so far?

I am.I'd be pissed if I had paid $900 for what this console has offered so far
That could be said for anybody in the gaming industry and why they do the things that they do. We often criticize them, question why they do this or that without understanding or even knowing the entire picture. Gaf is full of armchair developers, CEO's, artists, etc.People here think they know console hardware better than Cerny
It's hilarious
You don't like PS5 Pro?
Have fun with PC hardware prices!
all of those also have half the storage. also, I thought we hated framegen?
If GTA 6 is the only game you play, sure I guess? The issue is that many of us play a variety of games and the success of the device won't hinge on the performance of just one game.I disagree. Please don't make this thread again. We don't need nor care for a reminder of what some perception is. I'll be hella glad to have mine when GTA6 comes out. Then we will see how threads like this matter.
This is on Cerny and Sony. FSR4 trashes PSSR.bro you got 2.4x the storage and 60% more GPU compute. you got better hardware chief, it's AMD's shitty upscaling that's letting you down
FRS4 is on Cerny and Sony as well. Which is why PSSR2.0 is supposed to be pretty synonymous with it.This is on Cerny and Sony. FSR4 trashes PSSR.
I got the disc drive over the holidays, intend to do a little more physical buys.If GTA 6 is the only game you play, sure I guess? The issue is that many of us play a variety of games and the success of the device won't hinge on the performance of just one game.
