Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

I was doing so good exfiling last night- like 5/6. I started to wonder if the servers were near empty or something. lol
Compared to beta i was prob 0-6 at this point.
I'm 12/15 lifetime with randos which is wild to me because I'm not an extraction guy

Really enjoying this and I'm excited for the future. IMO they should add a 'scavs only/no loadout' mode where everyone drops in with nothing (like the tutorial, but with other players)

Already extracted two times in Solo Queue with other players. Doing multiple crouches seems to be understood by other players as non hostile.

How is the game? Worth it? Is it like Arc Raiders?
I would say you should've tried the server slam to see the similarities and differences.

It's a more intentionally mysterious and obtuse game that rewards discovery and experimenting. It's superior in the PvP department by a long mile to Arc. It has a UI made by a retard. The battle pass is doo doo butter.

The moment to moment gameplay is amazing and even though I'm a solo player, I'd say if you get one more friend or two to play with you then it's far better.

I love it.

Played 5 hours straight and i have no desire to stop, but i need to eat. Already lvl 9, some failed runs, but lots of successful ones with runner kills. Game is goddamn crack

Doing my best to ignore all the ridiculous CCU obsession talks and hopes that this and Bungie fails. I'm having a lot of fun with this, and I can't help but think content will only get better and better. Especially with Bungie being so stern about datamining and all. It's hard not to be excited about its future. I just hope it gets there okay. It's really dependent on so many variables that we have no insight on. 🤞

I think the biggest negative I have right now is the battle pass and the monetization around all that. Which of course strictly cosmetic, don't need to partake, etc. It just definitely feels like it could be better, and it probably NEEDs to be. But to be quite honest, I'm not entirely sure how easy it is to acquire silk. Is it just provided when you rank up? Or are different increments tied to objectives and ranks?

I just put every marathon thread on ignore except this one :)

Got my team and myself killed. I started some event inside of a building and suddenly a group of very aggressive bots spawned and surrounded us. Sorry guys.
lol I did the same thing during the server slam.

Up at the crack of dawn.

First priority more vault space. Bungo keep sending me slam rewards over and over lol. Ill take it.
It's crazy how much stuff they are throwing at you. Game is much harder than Arc Raiders but they sure as hell do throw rewards at you. I still haven't emptied my codex. To much stuff in inventory and I just want to play right now.

I actually had to start using all my equipment instead of going in barebones and stealing someone elses because I just had to much stuff. So I fully equipped my character like 3 times so I could empty some space if I lost it. I did finally get the shotgun last night at least and it destroys people.

To me the solo experience is superior. Much more tension and i dont have dumbass teammates

Pretty much agree with all of this. Im pretty sure one of my friends is picking this up, so I will be able to do Duo's as well.

On that note, is there a dedicated Duo's Queue?

I love the game but Bungie fumbled this game in my eyes in a major way for me personally that pisses me off:

They did not listen to 90% of the feedback given.

I don't mean me personally what I said to improve but literally the complaints you've seen en masse like UI, the shit battle pass, etc were given to them 8 months ago or more.

Now they act like oh we hear you we will work on that. Fuck you and your echo chamber.
Yeah, I totally get that. I don't have a gigantic past with Bungie outside of games here and there, but I wasn't into Destiny at all. So I wasn't sure how good they were about listening to feedback, adjusting as a result, etc. It's pretty ridiculous to ignore feedback period, but especially with a service/online game. Hopefully they actually start listening.

I just put every marathon thread on ignore except this one :)
Yeah, I'm likely going to do that as well. Well, and anything regarding CCU with anything in the future, I'm just over it, lmao. It's just crazy cause it's all up in the subreddit, in the Steam discussions, etc. Basically every social platform it's being thrown around, lol.

Its fucking toxic and i hate it with passion. Im gonna ignore every ccu related topics in the future, its unhealthy

Widowmaker is a glass cannon with a repositioning hook and alert mines. She just has one very powerful shot if you can aim well enough. I find this challenge more rewarding than say, figuring out where to put a turret or where to stand and wait, because it's keeping both my tactics and action brain engaged in tandem.

I do think there should be games and characters to allow people who can't aim to participate though!
Agreed. Both aim skill & positioning/tactics should be rewarded in all PvP games. I'm just more interested in pushing the value towards position & tactics. I find that more fun than winning or losing based on thumbs.

Marathon definitely rewards twitch thumb skill as well. I'm just surprised how often I'm able to delete players at times. A lot of times I feel like I'm hitting players with nearly every bullet in a clip. A phenomenon that almost never happened when I played Soldier 76 in Overwatch.

Bungie deserves a lot of criticism but one thing I've never been able to fault them for is how it feels to shoot in their games.

Yeah, ditto. It's totally standard for to like and dislike games, it's all opinionated. But this all feels so bizarre to me. I mean, it feels SO wildly excessive and unnatural.

Melee too, lol. Knifing feels so good in this.

Heavy aim assist + bullet magnetism has always been Bungie's formula. For a long time this wasn't too controversial since they were a console-only dev making games for controller users. I think people started talking about it more with Destiny 2 releasing on PC and now Marathon. It's not what KBM users are used to. It does feel like a step up from Destiny 2 gunplay imo. Considering everything else Marathon has going on I'd say it works well and emphasizes other aspects of the gameplay like positioning and ability use. It'll never appeal to the cracked out players who prefer CS-style gunplay but that's ok. The aim assist is strong but it's not an "I win" button either. Played a few rounds with a buddy who's straight trash, spraying all over the place like the Rook cinematic.

same. i've never noticed this before with gamers. Maybe i'm lucky. I know Concord got a lot of hate and was shit canned but that's about the closest thing I can think of.

holy shit the amount of people who just want to see this game fail is insane. i'm not sucking up Bungie's ass. i had issues with Destiny as well. I hated the direction they went with Destiny 2. i knew Marathon could potentially be a flop but i'm loving the game and it seems there are a lot of people who enjoy it too.

is it perfect? absolutely not but the amount of people who wrote it off before launch and still get a hard on about it going F2P (yes that is a possibility eventually) or getting shut down is insane. it seems some "gamers" care more about wishing games to die, studios to get shut down, people to lose their jobs.... than actually sitting down to play a game or simply accept that something might not be for them.

No dedicated que yet. Again, they were given this feedback 8+ months ago.

I do duo with a buddy and turn off auto fill. We shit on trios consistently.

Also some tips for players:
-DCON locations here

-If you're a rook fan level Traxus

Genuinely shocked there's no duos queue, I mean, why not? If the ground work is laid out for everything else, creating another queue is certainly possible.

This is mostly how we play as well. Duos is very viable. The TTK being so fast actually makes it seem balanced. I'd rather face off against a trio than a horde of UESC bots with that stupid floating good bot.

I feel like the audio is better for me than during server slam. Its basically the most important information in solos. Its amazing how you can hear everything. Listening to audio got me some kills

I'm assuming Triage is viable in Solos? His ULT is potentially worthless, but having the heal bot on yourself might be worth it with the TTK the way it is. I played as him exclusively in the Server Slam in trio's and he was great.

His ult damages enemies

The audio is way better than it was in the Server Slam, where it was pure doo-doo butter.

We have 3 at the min but im on all day :messenger_sunglasses:
Well now I'm sitting around waiting for a handyman to show up to my apt and fix an issue with the heat, so I can't jump in atm - might get pulled away anytime. I'll hit you up later if you're on late. Still have the whole weekend to go too.

Huston we have a problem lol. I'll be on, just having dinner then going for round 2.

Well shit. I will be switching over to him after work then. Plus, his skin in the store is pretty sweet. :)
Triage main. Solos mainly.

He's amazing. You save so much on heals, and yeah I use the ult usually on shielded bots as it rips the shield right off.

I assume it does more damage the higher you charge it up? And revives with more health? Not 100% clear on that yet.

I like and hate that feeling.

I feel like when I played by first solo, I was hiding from other players when I saw some of them running around and as I was stealing some stuff it was difficult to understand what I was taking so I would have to go hide somewhere to read in a menu what the item was lol

But then I would also have to remember I'm also hiding from the UESC lol

So overall I actually like the overwhelming and a brand new feeling of not really knowing what everything is because it actually makes the experience feel that much alien. Only later was able to learn the significance of the things I will stealing. I was able to get it back to expand my storage, What I was able to get some attachments to a gun I like.

These days I rarely jump into an experience I'm not familiar with, Most of the games that I normally averagely play like Resident Evil yakuza persona etc All have grounded Expectations and dated core concepts that are deeply familiar , I'm at that age where I just wanna jump right into the fucking fun, It's why I was okay with battlefield 6 not really introducing that many new elements and keeping that core concept pretty tight

But once in a while I do like to play something experience something I did not play before even if it means being overwhelmed by a bunch of random shit lol

I was on the menu screen for the longest time trying to figure out what was going on with selecting a shell, Trying to see what could be customize in a differences between those classes, Trying to see what saves in your person and what saves in the vault.

Sometimes it's fun to get out of that comfort zone. We will learn all of this together bruv

Before you start a run, you'll see an option to play with a crew or not. Playing solo is more dangerous as everyone else in the world is a potential enemy. I only came across a few people that didn't shot and just said hi with the like the default chat thing lol I choose not to shoot anyone and just steal and do the mission and escape etc.

In terms of squading up, I don't know how to do that just yet.
Not sure if this has been mentioned as a reply to your post yet but the best thing you can do as far as looting is concerned is to look at the upgrades for each faction and TRACK the items required for the upgrades. Now you see a handy lil' icon next to the items mid-match so you know what to keep and what to drop.

Third map just elevated this game to god tier for me.

Killed 4 people. Map? Chaos. Pure fucking ass cheeks clapped all over.

I could NOT figure out how to do the clearance to get out. Never had to be in a map for the final minute. It gives a final exfil chance. Other side of map!!! 60 seconds , over heated, I literally climb off a box with my pinky toe in ring at 0 seconds to make it out alive.

I have become God.

I wish my idiot teammates from the last 3 rounds would stop trying to sprint clear across the map to get their objective

They get ganked every time. Like if you don't spawn by it, save it for another run cause you're gonna die anyway

Yep. If you are on the wrong side of the map just farm some barter mats and get the fuck out of dodge.

Me and a friend went into Outpost with a random. He asked us to help him with a quest which we accepted and all hell broke loose! Massive gun fight with 2 teams on the stairs and then a third turned up and after a few mins of fighting, I get on comms to say "call it a draw?" And we end up teaming to do the quest together. Felt like Arc raiders. Amazing fucking game. Fuck the haters! 🤣🤣

Strange I go across the map all the time. I sure as hell don't just sprint there though. There is plenty of time. I take my time, loot and we make our way over.
