Someone help this guy he is losing his mindHe's arguably the greatest games critic in history. His word carries a metric ton of weight. Marathon is legendary.

Just so we are all on the same page major publications are still not publishing their reviews almost 7 days after release because Sony asked them to, this should be a bigger story but no one seems to give a fuck since it is not Ubisoft or Microsoft who is doing it.
Maybe its because it takes more than just a few days to review.Just so we are all on the same page major publications are still not publishing their reviews almost 7 days after release because Sony asked them to, this should be a bigger story but no one seems to give a fuck since it is not Ubisoft or Microsoft who is doing it.
Yes it takes 9 days to review a game that comes with 3 maps, they really should have like a council to analyze a game as complex as Marathon, give me a break cultist this is something you cannot defend.Maybe its because it takes more than just a few days to review.
Or would you like a review from someone who doesn't fully understand the game or has not played all the content that you get for the price if entry?
I love it personally but that might change once I reach the end game, it might suck.
You know nothing about the game give me a break. If you are on the fence about buying it wait for your favourite reviewer to publish or look to user reviews.Yes it takes 9 days to review a game that comes with 3 maps, they really should have like a council to analyze a game as complex as Marathon, give me a break cultist this is something you cannot defend.
I don't care about the game it is not the point, blocking reivews is a scummy practice that Sony is getting away with it and cultists like you are defending it, that is the problem here. You know nothing about the game give me a break. Although i suspect you have no interest in the game and are just looking for something to moan about.
Big media day 1 critic reviews are pointless anyway nowadays. Every game gets at minimum a day 1 patch but is often patched for half a year and some even get huge updates. But Metacritic reviews are static. Based on a review code. So we're supposed to listen to 50 or whatever people who rush through a game review code before release? Why? Nobody is literally ever going to play the game they're rating.Just so we are all on the same page major publications are still not publishing their reviews almost 7 days after release because Sony asked them to, this should be a bigger story but no one seems to give a fuck since it is not Ubisoft or Microsoft who is doing it.
Cultist lol, i just like the game. Shoot me.I don't care about the game it is not the point, blocking reivews is a scummy practice that Sony is getting away with it and cultists like you are defending it, that is the problem here.
9 days bro, the game has been out for 9 days with no review! You can't defend this.Big media day 1 critic reviews are pointless anyway nowadays. User reviews from thousands of gamers is better. Like Steam. The only problem there is to cull the review bombings. Can't just look at the default percentage. You always need to filter for playtime. Go for a minimum playtime that fits the genre to understand what the current state of the game is for people who play it and like the genre.
They didn't block the reviews, there are already some out there.I don't care about the game it is not the point, blocking reivews is a scummy practice that Sony is getting away with it and cultists like you are defending it, that is the problem here.
Read the countless user reviews or watch videos on youtube or a good streamer on twitch. Plenty of reviews out there by people that have actually played it, and are probably better equipped to make a fair judgement. You get to see what the game plays like at all different levels (especially watching different twitch streamers) and then make a call based on that. Why you need someone from Kotaku or any other brand to tell you it's good/bad? The people are the best at that.9 days bro, the game has been out for 9 days with no review! You can't defend this.
Look we all know for a good while Sony first party games are rated generously and let's just leave it at that.Which shows us how much they cannot be trusted to do honorable, transparant reviews.
Fucking marketing arms is what they are
Everybody should just release their review in solidarity and give the game extra negative score for even daring them to ask waiting in the review
I don't play the game and I don't defend anything, I've just been critical of big media reviews for a long long time. I mean imagine looking at day 1 reviews of No Man's Sky…9 days bro, the game has been out for 9 days with no review! You can't defend this.
100% this. I learned this years and years ago. Metacritic is almost irrelevant to me. Almost.Read the countless user reviews or watch videos on youtube or a good streamer on twitch. 85% positive on steam and 4.5 on Playstation seems like those playing the game like it just fine.Look we all know for a good while Sony first party games are rated generously and let's just leave it at that.
The Marathon situation isn't helping the game anyway, people are just not liking the game unfortunately.
STFU dude. The people playing the game really enjoy the game. User scores indicate that. Just because you view the game as GAAS slop don't mean it is. If anything, Bungie making Destiny 3 would be "GAAS slop". At least with Marathon Bungie took a chance at doing something very different. Here's the thing: Marathon actually has some genuinely strong elements. The art style is unique, the soundtrack is excellent, and the sci-fi atmosphere is really compelling.
But that alone isn't enough. And honestly, as harsh as it may sound, the industry might actually benefit if it fails.
The market is already drowning in GAAS slop. What we need far more of are focused, high-quality single-player experiences.
I honestly don't understand why Bungie didn't just focus on making Destiny 3, especially considering how successful Destiny 2 was.
Well luckily for us the gameplay systems are also superb. And when I'm not playing I'm thinking about when I'll be playing next. That's what gaming is all about to me.But that alone isn't enough. And honestly, as harsh as it may sound, the industry might actually benefit if it fails.

You may not like it. The hardcore nature of it may be too "niche", but piss off saying it would be good if the game failed because it is not for you
The game has pretty good reviews on Steam.
I don't know about you guys, but I trust Steam ratings more than game reviews from journalists.
Maybe it goes f2p at some point. I would love to try the game (even though im a casual at pvp).

What other extraction game is a "hero shooter"? Does it play like Tarkov, Helldivers 2, or Arc Raiders? No, no, and no. By your metrics, the game would have to create a new genre in order to be revolutionary. Hell, you got an incredibly unique art style and people shit on the game because of it![]()
"Something very different" lol is a stretch when it's another extraction shooter built around the same GAAS framework we've seen a million times already.
I've already acknowledged the positives, but pretending the concept itself is revolutionary and unique?
That's the thing. If the game doesn't live on in my head after I tried it first time, it's not for me.Well luckily for us the gameplay systems are also superb. And when I'm not playing I'm thinking about when I'll be playing next. That's what gaming is all about to me.

It is like saying Apex Legends shouldn't exist because it is just another Battle Royal game like Fortnite

Textbook copeThis game was never going to review in the 80-90 range because most games reviewers are terrible when it comes to FPS and even more so when it's mostly focused on PvP like this.
I actually enjoyed my time with Marathon.
Do you think art style alone is enough to carry this game?
After around three hours, I felt like I'd experienced most of what the game has to offer. The atmosphere, gunplay and music are great, but beyond that there isn't much depth to keep players engaged.
It's a good game — just not enough to sustain interest long term, which is likely why players are already dropping off.
Meanwhile Destiny is far more ambitious with its PvE component and broader scope.
Edit. Id also like to add. Destiny has raids, strikes, 5 different enemy races to fight against and a PVP mode.
Destiny has its problems but its far more ambitious than Marathon. Let's be honest.
Got a link to your profile showing you've played it extensively to be able to form an unbiased and informed opinion mate or are you just talking out your ass again?Textbook cope
Reviewers clearly know their way around FPS mechanics and PvP. Their criticisms focused on messy UI, confusing onboarding, a steep learning curve for new players and the typical growing pains of a live-service extraction shooter. Those are fair points
They have nothing to do with being "bad at shooters"
Marathon is just a highly mediocre game.
Nah mate, I haven't touched Marathon at all. And I don't need to.Got a link to your profile showing you've played it extensively to be able to form an unbiased and informed opinion mate or are you just talking out your ass again?
Edit. Nvm. Yup you got me![]()
Destiny fan wanting Marathon to fail so Destiny 3 will be developed quicker. Why didn't you just come out and say it? No reason to beat around the bush. Bungie didn't make the game you wanted. It has little to do with the merits of Marathon
Game has like 87% in Steam and 90% (4.62 out of 5) on PSN by some thousands people (29k rated it on Steam, 8K on PSN).
Can we stop discussing if people that have played actually liked it?
You're asking obsessive haters to do something better with their time… I doubt it happens.
Most these guys want to see Bungie and Sony to fail or gaas games to fail for their reasons. Same people havent stopped in years lol
Well it entered the respectable zone. I was sure there was a Marathon metacritic prediction thread but can't find it now.
Cryo Archive only gonna push it forward.

Ah yes we love seeing talent wasted on chasing trends
Dunno what game you played but im 70 hours deep and I've not even finished all the quests. If you only played 3 hours then you only played 2 maps and you didn't scratch the surface.I actually enjoyed my time with Marathon.
But do you think art style alone is enough to carry this game?

Chasing trends lol. What would you call not chasing a trend?Ah yes we love seeing talent wasted on chasing trends
Not really?Chasing trends lol. What would you call not chasing a trend?
Was Halo "trend" chasing?
Well theres other talented studios you can go follow.
its followed many FPS before it that were very popular. One could almost say they were trending at the time. Not really?
It was a trendsetter for consoles in many ways
