Let the NPCs be NPCs. They can't think for themselves so their initial reaction is always "AI slop".

People are going to have to do a flip flop and realise what they've been playing for years and what's on screen is the real 'fake' image, and this tech allows what they wanted all along.
Starfield looked like shit before with flat characters. Now, those flat characters look like weird AI models with really bright lighting on them, which is still shit, just another kind of shit. It all looks like the shitty mobile game ads now, "Come play, m'lord."I find this take absolutely wild. Of all the games shown, Starfield shows the most benefit, and particularly in its characters.
Yeah man. We're really not thinking for ourselves by deciding this looks like total shit, while you, the enlightened, say the same stupid AI bootlicking garbage every time some dumbass rolls out AI trash and presents it like delectable feast and you lap it up.Let the NPCs be NPCs. They can't think for themselves so their initial reaction is always "AI slop".
That's a bug with the game itself:

If you don't think this:

… a huge improvement, like a two gen leap in visuals, I don't know what to tell you. It looks incredible and the model stays the same.

This is what it comes down to. It's always the same argument, "It's the future," "Whether you like it or not," etc.I just can't with the AI bros anymore. They will gleefully show an AI generated monstrosity and then act shocked and offended when everyone rightfully says "yeah no, that looks fucking terrible"
I hate to sound condescending or pretentious but they really just have poor taste.
Starfield is legitimately one of the ugliest AAA games this gen. It's baffling how a company with the backing of Microsoft can make something that looks so awful. DLSS5 was such an obvious improvement.I find this take absolutely wild. Of all the games shown, Starfield shows the most benefit, and particularly in its characters.

They just have bad taste, and want everyone to also have fucking terrible taste. They probably love shit AI music and think Tom McDonald is a great rapper.
Yep. They want an echo chamber of boring, bland garbage constantly piped into their heads all the time. It's like they want art and entertainment to be as homogenized and bland as everything else in their lives. Likely the same ones food prepping a mediocre meal to eat 7 times in a row. They want to come home from their office job and tell an AI model to generate a GTA Witcher hybrid while they space out and disregard the complete lack of soul and humanity in what they're consuming.
An RT or PT update wouldn't place a random sun in front of the scene and blow out the contrast though. PT and RT often make scenes darker with highlights.Starfield is legitimately one of the ugliest AAA games this gen. I mean, this comparison alone sells me on the tech by itself. If Bethesda had brought this out as an RT or PT update, people would be coming all over themselves to praise them for finally making a good looking game. Anyone who calls this a "Yassify" filter or whatever is absolutely lost and should have all their opinions ignored.

More DLSS 5 footage here, off-screen
Guessing they just want to show the games looking in their best light for the press and random and sporadic movements will likely show some visible artifacts and its current limitations. Iirc DF did say they spotted some artifacting with their time with it.Why does he turn the DLSS off when moving

All early days I guess, got to start somewhere. It wasn't that long ago that DLSS (1) was a bit crap and was criticized for it. And since its been the gold standard for upscaling tech. RT and RTX was branded a waste of time for reflective puddles and now we have full games running RT using UE5, on mainstream hardware and games on consoles. If a game is made with the intention of this being used or this being fine tuned, the end results should look good. At the moment its a little uncanny but given that you can use different models or developers can train their own to fine tune this, I think its something to look forward to for a tech pov. Can't wait to see what talented devs can do with this. It's just that games are the movement.
That's why I personally hate frame generation and upscalers: they make the image quality very unappealing while playing the game.

By the time it will actually work decently on "midrange" cards, so 60ti or 70 models, those cards will be stronger from 5090 or at the very least will have bigger vram pool, we are solid few years from when dlss5(or whatever name its gonna get few years down the road) gonna hit actual mainstream customer- think base console so ps7 or/and 500-700$ gpus.Very impressive tech.
But let's see how it performed on mid range cards.

And that's with just an NPC moving.
The occlusion issues have existed with DLSS before. It's hardly a new thing. Now it made sense why DLSS 5 ON mode was static.
