It's not that I don't appreciate the simulation, it's that the realistic shit like horse balls shrinking in the cold or NPCs washing their plates is ultimately meaningless. Hey, it's cool to have them and does add a bit of flavor, but when the world comes to a standstill for a game about freedom and player expression that penalizes you for taking a wrong turn, I gotta laugh.
They are meaningless and yet people love this shit and you can't find them it in any other non-rockstar game (at least not to the same extent) while i can find good gameplay and combat in countless of games.

If every dev wasted 10 years and 2 billions dollar for every game it would be bad, but it's like 1 game every 10 years, i think we can survive with 99,99% of devs doing their thing while rockstar does their thing and we are all happy.

Believe me, i shit on rockstar mission design at every chance i get but i also respect what they try to achieve.

Let's hope gta6 is gonna have max payne 3 combat, it is absurd that gta5 was such a downgrade from that.

I guess what I'm talk about is actually playing it and finding the combat system to be pretty bog standard turn-based JRPG with fancy presentation. It's certainly not bad, but it ain't the reason it won 7,396 awards

In terms of recent winners/nominees, both BG3 and Metaphor: Refantazio had vastly better turn-based combat systems
E33 got all this praise for the whole package, not just the story or even mainly the story. If the gameplay was shit, it also wouldn't have gotten this acclaim.

Story doesn't have to be fantastic in a game like this, but hopefully it is decent. Story goes a long way in maintaining my interest in the game. Recall playing Watch Dog Legions and enjoying the game play, but shit got boring really fast without the story, protagonist, etc. I have a feeling the story is what will keep Crimson Desert from getting above that all so sacred 90 metacritic score. But hopefully it will surprise us.

You are not gonna have rdr2 level of granular micro-micro details like people actually cutting food and eating it.

People better set their expectation correctly, there is only one rockstar for a reason.
That was my point

I believe the game will be impressive in ways RDR 2 isnt, but some people will focus on it not having dynamic horse testicles

That's usualy how it goes with every open world game released since 2018

If the open world and general gameplay is good and the story just passable im gonna play this like i played skyrim and fallout 4 -> play around the open world sandbox for 500 hours across 10 playthroughs while never progressing the mainstory past the first act ever.

I'm not saying reviewers need to finish a game at 100% in order to give a proper review, but I still find that reviews may be half-assed because reviewers didn't do enough of a playthrough. We'll see soon enough.

I did my own thing in Bethesda games. At some point after I cleared most of the map I'd then do the main quest to finish it

I don't see how anyone can have enjoyment in giant games just doing the main quest beelining quest markers.

The Korean dude who claims he finished it even compared it to OOT when it comes to interesting game world.

I have a hard time believing it's that same feeling again, but we'll see. It would be one hell of an achievement though, since this studio is solely known for MMO.

So no early impressions besides that shaddy korean streamer ?

There was another YouTuber who leaked his review last week. He liked the game a lot but predicted an 80-85 Metascore, because of quality of life features like inventory limits.

This is the weirdest game I've seen in quite a long time. It simultaneously looks incredible, yet kind of janky/stupid lol. The tech on display is absolutely amazing, though.

I do earnestly. I like a good narrative in anything I consume from an entertainment perspective.
Liking a good narrative is fine. It enhances the experience. However, if a game has incredible gameplay, a kickass soundtrack, a great and unique atmosphere, and an amazing world full of unique and engaging content, you'd be a fool to skip it because the story is no good.

I finally watched a trailer to this. Not sure why there is so much hype. I hope it ends up great though. I'm all for more great games.
I have never seen the trailer for this game. I have only seen the gameplay previews and that is what hyped me up. The combat, the night time, the goofy shit in it like robots(wtf?), the huge map to explore, I'm going to sleep and can't remember more, but there is more.

I don't think most are ready for this kind of sandbox game with no dedicated path or heavy story focus, so it may not score as well as some think.

So excited to jump in though and lose myself in the world

My take: scores similar to Black Myth Wukong.

Having finished (and loved) both, I'd say that both combat systems are awesome. E33's is more innovative, Metaphor's is more strategic, yet they are both great in their own right.
Metaphor deserved more sales and praise, though, and it's also a much more mature tale than Persona.
