The broad strokes is that a regime change will make the strait of hormuz to always open and not be a tool to use against all countries around, which is why those other countries support this war.

Every bar I've ever bartended behind had a no news/political policy for the tvs. Didn't matter if it was corpo or privately owned, no news channels were to ever be on, and it was a policy that I loved.
Politics and drunks mix about as well as oil and water, I had to cut off/kick out more patrons over political arguments then any other reason. Bartending during an election year was always a nightmare.
In short, I'd rather die a thousand deaths than tend bar in a place like that.

You can't really avoid that in war. But what USA is doing (sometimes killing civilians by accident) is obviously so much different than Russia Purposefully targeting civilian homes, hospitals, schools, energy infrastructure in the middle of winter etc.
But I wonder what the endgame here is, changing regime in Iran would be a serious commitment (and a big benefit to the world) - but that can't be done in three weeks with only ranged weapons.

The expeditionary force on the USS Tripoli is still a week away from arriving in the Persian Gulf. Presumably, they'll be used to capture the Iranian islands in the Strait of Hormuz to open it back up.
Any competent war planning would have had an expeditionary force included in the military build-up in the region before the war began, to be used for contingencies like this once the war commenced. Yet here we are, with oil near $120 a barrel, and they're still a week out.

I don't think Trump felt that much planning was really necessary because, being the greatest nation in the world with the finest people and most powerful military, why bother? Can't we just un-tick everyone on the alliances screen, attack-move, celebrate AMERICAN POWER in headlines, and go home?

I think their strategy is to pop folks until they get a sleeper agent in charge, then there will be a big show of defiance, Israel backs down, it seems like Iran "came out ok" but in reality that person is now empowered to make real change in Iran and can quietly start cleaning out the zealots.
The stuff we see on social media is all part of the psyop, I think, no different that any other maneuver of force in warfare.

Well to be fair nobody expected Iran to enter "The End Run" stage. Even their own government. At this point it is clear that they have no control over their own IRGC cells (broken command chain and no communication). One entertaining thing is to see in real time how the neo-Parthian empire losing it territory, while neo-Ottoman empire is on the rise.

You can see the impact damage from a previous strike just behind where he is standing, it was obviously targeted before they were there.

This reminds me of the Syrian war, when the USA saw what looked like some Russian soldiers near an enemy position, in Battle of Khasham.
So they called the Russian command and asked them if they had any soldiers there, as they didn't want to cause an international issue.
Russia says there is none. Lying, because they knew there were Wagner troops working with the insurgents.
So the USA just light up that whole area with everything they had available, killing up to 300 Wagner soldiers.
Officially, Russia never complained. But internally it was a shitshow for Russia.

Cold war Europe had large, capable militaries. All, including the US were dwarfed by the Soviet's. They were built to hold before tac nukes started melting the front line in the event of an invasion.
The US military today is a shadow of it itself 20+ years ago, let alone 90's Gulf War

I hope that is true, but I worry it comes from a place of assuming they have the same mindset, values, pain points that we do. At least, when we first went in (kind of like projecting our values onto Russia while devising how to stop them, gradually ramping up deterrents that would horror us even in small doses).
It could work, but I think they expected it to work right away -not to have an attrition campaign of how many leaders/their replacements we have to airstrike before finding the pain point, which we now worry, is long enough that we have to secure the Strait, something we didn't plan for.

Article: Two Iranian men have been charged with an offence under the National Security Act after an investigation into alleged reconnaissance of Jewish targets on behalf of Iran.
Nematollah Shahsavani, 40, and Alireza Farasati, 22, were arrested earlier this month on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service. The investigation is linked to Iran, officials said.
Counter Terrorism Policing had been investigating alleged surveillance of locations and individuals linked to London's Jewish community.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans described the charges as "extremely serious" and said the force will be "relentless" in its pursuit of anyone threatening the safety of the public.
"We fully recognise that the public - and in particular the Jewish community - will be concerned but I hope this investigation reassures them that we will not hesitate to take action if we identify there may be a threat to their safety, and will be relentless in our pursuit of those who may be responsible," she added.
Shahsavani, a dual British-Iranian national of North Finchley, and Farasati, an Iranian national of Edgware, were both charged with engaging in contact that is likely to assist the Iranian intelligence service between 9 July 2025 and 15 August 2025.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the charges under the National Security Act related to activities that included "reconnaissance of targets."
They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
Two other men who were arrested at the same time as part of the investigation have been released without charge.
