Last rumour i saw for him was a bid of cash + Denilson from Arsenal being turned down, not heard anything since!

Guardian said that he was invited to Old Trafford, but it turned out that the picture wasn't of him. Basis for the whole hoopla was Ferguson tracking Costa when he was back in Brazil before he transferred to Turkey. However, since he's only really ever operated in the hole behind the striker I doubt we'll make the purchase. A player that can slot into the central midfield role in our system is needed.
Thanks you two! It's a real shame as he has the potential to become a brilliant player and when he does, will be yet another who we should've / could've pounced on early and will live to regret :(

It hasn't worked out too badly without him =)

Alot of the time we "miss out" on these players but other than still winning titles which makes it irrelevant for the most part, we usually find someone else to fill the place. For example we missed out on Ronaldinho but we got C.Ronaldo. The one player I really regret us missing out on and one we really could have made use of is Essien.

I know what you mean though, we hardly ever seem to sign players that you kinda "wish" we would sign.

He might be great in kicking a ball, but those incidents of him becoming aggressive happened a couple of times in the Bundesliga. Whenever he gets tackled or looses the ball to an opponent, he starts to wave his arms around or starts discussions with the ref. Really annoying.
Plus the shit he pulled in the French national team during 2010's WC doesn't throw a good light on him.
According to a few sports pages he insulted Hugo Lloris because the goalkeeper read a book and didn't want to play Playstation with the rest..

Idk about him in the french NT to be honest, but at least in Bayern he's very professional. More than most 'diva/stars' players like Robben, Cristiano, Villa, etc. The French NT at 2010 WC was horrible both in the camp and out, not just Ribéry's fault.

And he's good at pretty much everything, but he's lacking in confidence. He isn't the same Ribéry of 2008-2009, he's more like a team player, and not so much of a solo player like Arjen.

Not really. Of course we had him and let him go and today he is a world class centre back...but we've done fine without him with I believe two CB's who are just as good if not better. Pique always had promise but he did struggle a little bit when he played for us with the physicality of the league. I think SAF wanted to keep him, no doubt, but Barca came back for him and he was 4th, maybe 5th choice at the time. He had a chance to go home and wanted to...so fair enough we let him go back.

Now we've signed Smalling who's looked great so far and Jones too so I guess we are sorted for the long haul too, hopefully. Of course at a much bigger cost...but it happens...Barca lost him to us before we did back to them anyway...it all worked out in the end!

Looks Fabregas to Barcelona is going down this week. Shieeeeeeeeet, no matter how many players Madrid buys, with Fabregas Barcelona are guaranteed at least 6 more years at the top of spanish football.

With Fabregas, Pep can give the midfield a lot more rotation to rest Xavi and Iniesta.

busquets/mascherano-----xavi/fabregas----iniesta/thiago

I think that's just downright cheating.

Ronaldiniho was/still is awsome. First watched him at the world cup 2002, that free kick against England and then when he dominated Bolarhuoz against chelsea. Sad that he never played in the premiership.

Dinho was unreal, I genuinely think he changed football forever, bought tricks to the very fore-front of the game...only thing is...other people did them to show off...Ronaldinho just played that way...

Funniest shit, Fabregas gets back to Barcelona, and Barcelona stops ruling the football world. Watch...

It could happen.

What irritates me is the absurd history rewriting thats going on. Barcelona snubbed him as a youth and so he went off to Arsenal because he thought they would give him a better shot. They did. he had a great few seasons and faded the last one. Now they want to sell him back to Barca for a tidy profit.

All of this horseshit about a "special bond" and "stealing" (from Barca) and "touching up our player" and "unsettling" (from Arsenal) is just that, horseshit.

To Fabrecase's credit he has always been completely straight up of what Arsenal has done for him and his loyalty to them and when they want to sell him he would happily go to barca.

The two clubs should just settle on the price of this transaction because thats all it is. Not some 19th century tortured romance novel.

I am not sure that is true you know. I remember Barcelona were outraged when Arsenal took Cesc from them and I'm pretty sure Arsenal had to pay some compensation and they offered somebody on loan to Barca aswell to encourage them to drop their official complaint.

If it was anybody's fault it was Cesc's, he chose to leave, he "turned his back" on Barca...whether it was justified or not I don't know but I am almost 100% sure Barcelona wanted to keep him and Arsenal got in there before he could sign a professional deal at Barca and took him away through some kind of loophole.

Your memory maybe better than mine.

I only recall the outrage AFTER Cesc had started to play well for Arsenal. As far as I am aware Barca never game him a sniff at the first team when he was there.

Again though, not to paint Barca as the only hysterics here. Arsenal happily keep screaming blue murder to raise the price when it suits them and just say "no" when it doesnt (as they can given the contract)/

Certainly nobody ever forced Cesc to move and he has never complained. Until he hands in a transfer notice or says something in public that would indicate he is egging Barca on I am going to assume he is just being the loyal employee here.

IMHO this year it is in both Arsenals and Barca's interests to transfer the player, I just get annoyed by the pretense that either have somehow been emotionally wronged. Big clubs selling and buying an asset.

My dream. LOL

I wonder if Cesc realizes that he'll probably be benched a lot at Barca. Most likely he knows this already and doesn't give a flying $#@% because he'd rather be at Barca on a bench rather than be a 100% guaranteed spot at Arsenal.

That's a great problem to have as a coach though "Hmm I have Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc, whom do I bench today"! That's like having 3 icecream cones and only being able to hold 2 of them (since you only have 2 hands). Ok, that was a pretty terrible analogy =/

To be honest, im just getting sick the saga. He's a great player, but the lovefest between him and Barcelona with Pique and Puyol but also then saying "Arsenal is a great club!" is getting very boring.

I can appreciate he wants to go back, but this has been going on for years. Perhaps losing him would make Arsenal realise where they need to strengthen (more so than the money) and will kick start Wenger into buying some decent players.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how he fits in the Barca squad. I for one am not convinced by all the comparisons to Xavi, nor do I believe he's his 'natural successor', despite him slotting in to the same position on the pitch.

I can't imagine any pairing of midfielders more effective than Xavi and Iniesta. But we shall see what the future holds.

Did you hear R.Carlos walked off the pitch after having a banana thrown at him in Russia?

This isn't the first time it's happened in the country unfortunately. This is why I'm pro-multicultural societies. Can't imagine much of a black community

Juldas, now leader of the African students at RUDN, says "monkey" insults and actual assaults are so frequent that students have ceased reporting them. "We see it as normal now because that's how we live."

No matter how much they try to get racism out of football, there's always gonna be some idiots who'd still carry on. Plus its even worse when players do it but no actions taken like with busi and marcelo.

I have such respect and admiration for Cesc that no matter whether he stays or goes I wish him all the best and pray that he goes on to be all that he can. As an Arsenal fan I will never forget all that you have given for our club in VERY difficult circumstances. Cesc deserves his name placed alongside Bergkamp, Henry, Adams etc... as an Arsenal legend.

The man has given so much...

I seriously hope he stays as I feel he cannot be replaced at this current time and he deserves to win at least 1 trophy as Arsenal captain. It would be so depressing if he were to leave and then Arsenal win the league next season.

And he seemed much slower than usual with Milan.

You should still get his shirt though, don't let any of this discourage you.
