I've had minimal issues with the game up until now, and after patch 1.3, it's crashing to the desktop without fail about 5 to 10 minutes after starting it up.

I see Demon Ice is having the same issue. Anyone else? Is it a known issue?

I have no issues with the patch. Except the courier is naked now for some reason.

Be sure to uninstall any mods if you have issues.

Seeing the issues posted. I'm gonna start from a fresh install, no mods, nothing and see how it plays. Then I'll add in mods as I go. Haven't played for probably 2 weeks or so. Skipped 1.2 and was waiting for this, guess I might have to wait a bit more.

I was having plenty of crashes before but they were usually after extended periods of play. I think I'm going to backup my saves and just do a clean re-install of the game tonight. I don't remember the last time I've had to jump through so many hoops to play a god damn game.


For reference my save file is about 14 mb and it has just over 63 hours on it.

If you're talking about Skyrim 4GB, that works.

But Bethesda is going to be releasing their own LAA fix next week.

I mean just using LAA to change the 1.3 exe. I can try the 4gb mod, but I've just been using LAA to edit the exe.

Oh, no, that won't work. Steam will throw an error if you try to alter tesv.exe

Restore 1.1.21 exe and patch LAA in again, it works. You get error 51 if you try running a 1.3.20 exe with LAA. So until next week's update, continue to use either the 1.1 exe with LAA or 4GB Skyrim mod.

The interface sucks in the general, and that's the only reason I can think of to use a gamepad. Well, unless you think it's more 'immersive' to use triggers as if they were your hands...

No issues with the 1.3 update except that a lot of the tutorial pop-ups inexplicably got reset so i.e. I got a pop-up the first time I opened the map or equipped a spell or whatnot. Weird, but not game-breaking. Played for a couple hours with no CTDs using the 4GB launcher.

You get 8 hotkeys instead of 2. You can also quicksave right from the controller. I play a mage and it has completely changed the game for the better. Being able to switch between 8 spells without stopping the game is fantastic.

guys I have a question playing on the patch now... no problem so far but. I need to know the command line for the prefs ini that controls the brightness. You can change it in the systems tab, under settings, but since I make them read only it has brightness up to like 90% I just don't know the line.

I am in the same boat - CTD after 15min of play last night. I am getting tired of undoing Bethesda's patches every time they come out. Until there is a stable patch that comes out I am going to play other things.

I actually think this remap is a much better layout. I always found it very awkward pressing y+a or x+b for quicksave and quickload, and pressing x before b (which you have to do to quicksave) sheathes and unsheathes your weapon as well which is annoying. I also like being able to get directly into the submenus. And I prefer changing sneak to a button rather than thumbstick click because I often found myself accidentally sneaking in the middle of combat. Obviously all personal preference, just thought I'd recommend an alternative.

Has anyone else noticed this issue around weapon models in caves\dungeons with steam\smoke\dust? I only just noticed it today, maybe I just wasn't paying attention before, or could be a mod I've installed recently.

Here are 2 pics, I can actually see the lines around the weapons move as the steam covers more of it.

That's the one I would recommend from here on out.

FYI, you have to set your control method from pad to KB to get to the hotkey menu with the Q button. Also make sure you have the item to be assigned to the hotkey in your favorites or else it won't work. After you set the hotkeys with the corresponding 1-8 button, go back and change it back to pad and save.

I tried using my xbox controller, but this is a game I like to look around constantly. I can't do that with sticks, it's too slow for me. That and overall I really like the interface, I just wish I could favourite groups of spells/combinations of weapons/spells

I know, it was hard to push through the 100hours of play I've done so far knowing how utter garbage they are are developers. I mean, really, just a totally horrid experience. I've got cognitive dissonance out the wazoo.

Yes they are a garbage developer. It doesn't matter how amazing the game is if it can't stay running for more than 10 minutes at a time. Every subsequent patch has broken the game further. Would it make you feel better if I said they were a garbage PC developer? Because the game seems to work just fine on 360.

Did you use the LAA launcher? I got 2 crashes in 1 hour playing without LAA and 0 in 75 hours playing with LAA. (And that's with a lot of ini tweaks and mods)

I tried first with the 4GB launcher, crashed, then replaced the exe with the LAA patched exe and crashed again. Running no other mods, no ini tweaks, 11.11c AMD drivers.


Edit: Can someone instruct me on how to roll the game back to 1.1? That was the most stable for me, every patch since then has increased my crashes.

Not bad but there still isn't a super realistic water mod.

This is definitely the most awkward thing about this control scheme. His first version had d-pad up to get into favorites and then only had 6 hotkeys, left/right, lb+l/r, rb+l/r. The new version is much better. I did not like the sound of lb+right stick click at first, but in practice it's completely fine for me and it's much better then his old version.

I think ideally he would also use rb+buttons to give a few more options. Then back would be favorites, start is still menu, and rb+back is game menu. Theoretically you never need to go into the game menu since you can go directly to inv/magic/skills/map via their own keys.

Then he could have rb+a be autowalk, rb+something be screenshot.

Also in my experience pressing and holding rb then another button then releasing both together does not trigger a shout.
