totally glad you've figured out our entire narrative and gameplay mechanics from a two and a half minute cinematic trailer. i was worried it wouldnt be evident. groan.
lol. Next trailer will feature robots. Also, how the hell have you guys been able to keep an entire team a secret for 2 years!?
But what is SSM working on then?

While I would still buy and love God of War 4, I really hope it's another new ip. I don't want them to be chained to God of War forever, because they're super talented and deserve to experiment a bit more.

One or both of the ND co-presidents took a leaf from the Book of Gabe and invested in an unsettlingly large knife collection.

In ND we trust, I have just finished reading The Road so I'm hyped for some post-apocalyptic survival, tho this probably isn't going to be dark as Road :D Still I'm hyped.

I expect HL3 on upgraded Source engine to look NO LESS than this. If it looks worse I'm done with Valve games.

Wait, do we know if this is definitely a 2012 title? Since people are saying that this product/team goes back 2 years.

I think they revealed the last two Uncharted games at the VGA's and then released them the next fall. Hopefully the same formula is being followed.

We don't know for sure, but I would put (a small amount of) money on it. By holidays next year it will have been 3 years since they started it. ND's dev cycle is usually 2 years anyway, so if anything it seems like they're already taking extra time with this game (which is probably a good idea, since it's a brand new series).

Also this.

We probably won't hear a release date (hell, much of anything about TLOU going by arne) until E3, where the game will likely be Sony's center piece PS3 game.

I'm guessing we'll at least get a few gameplay details before E3, but probably not much new media until then.

aint nothin better than some snark at 12:30am. srsly though, we're not saying anything more than whats already been said for now.

Can we talk about something more abstract?

Naughty Dog has always previously said they would make the visual style of their games fit the power of their hardware.

That's why Uncharted was the first 'realistic' game you attempted. However, it is still heavily stylised and slightly 'cartoony'.

Do you really think the PS3 is up to producing an extremely realistic video game. And why now? Is it because your engine has come so far?

BTW, this is the same engine as Uncharted, but tweaked? Right? :)

Troy Baker is getting some serious work lately. Love it.

I like the music. Definitely interested, as long as it's more than just "fast zombies are after you!".

Yea, the "Naughty Dog" at the beginning of the trailer was one of the biggest "OH SHIT" moments I've had in gaming in a while.

um yeah not even going down this vague path for the time being. sorry!

Dem skin shaders :O Shift in style is certainly letting them show off some new tech.

Very exciting that ND is a two-project studio. Of any of the first party options for this reveal, this is probably the most surprising.

Anyway, it looks amazing. I assume the shots have, at least, the usual BSAA-etc. but if the assets are representative then that's still pretty incredible.

Now I just have to find time to play Uncharted 3... :\

UC2 revealed at VGA 2008. Released Fall 2009.
UC3 revealed VGA 2010. Released Fall 2011.
LoU revealed VGA 2011. Released Fall 2012?

I hope development is that far along to be true.

As oppose to what though? A fps or tps where you shoot people or soldiers? Lets put things in to perspective here. That's what the vast majority of shooters, or even games, have you doing. So in that respect the whole zombie thing is not nearly as common or over-used. How many war or military soldier based games (based in the past, present or future) come out in comparison to zombie one's?

Plus, it's quite obvious ND plan to revolutionise or be at the very top of the genre just like they did with adventure games and the Uncharted franchise.

I have this down as a much more meaningful, desperate, character driven and cinematic game. One that is emotionally gripping and has a heavy emphasis on grounded reality based narrative. It's obvious there's going to be varying degree's of zombie type creatures, some more infected than others, but the most poignant thing was having to fend off other survivors and normal humans too, which brings up a whole catalogue of emotive and morality based questions or considerations.

You can sign yourself for eating crow later, but I can guarantee you ND's take on this genre will be fresh, poignant and at the very top of it's class.

Anyway, watching the trailer again and pausing constantly, FUCK ME at the graphics. These cities are going to look mind blowingly good.

Hamburger Phone DLC - $2.99?

Castration kit.

Neil Druckmann (the creative director; not to be confused with Bruce Straley - the man indirectly referenced in the thread title - who is the game director) recently said he's been working on the game for 2 years, so Q4 2012 isn't out of the question.

Agreed. I was shocked enough to see the trailer shown so early on in the show but I thought I wasn't going to be too surprised by the unveil and then that studio name popped up and blew my mind. To know it's been in development that long is an even bigger shocker.

I like to imagine the people that say things like "ugh, another zombie game?", will say those things, then go play something like Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3.

I'm in awe of this hype train. Did I miss something?

Only that one of the best developers in the biz, having just released a game, has announced a new IP this late in the generation that they've been working on secretly. And it looks amazing :)
