Videogame facts that blow your mind (SuperMarioBros. SHOCKING SECRET INSIDE p #70)

Some good stuff on this page. :P I like the Majora's Mask scenes. I wonder why they decided not to use those.
And on top of that, if you look closely you can see a photograph of Vanille and Fang on one of the desk tables. Looks like they lived together.

Vanille explains that everyone in Oerba lived everywhere. They slept in whatever house they were in when they were tired. :P Everyone in the village technically lived together. But I guess Vanille and Fang were pretty close before they were l'Cie. Or soon after they became l'Cie.

In Pokemon Black/White, your basic goal in the game is to awaken one of the legendary dragons (Zekrom/Reshiram) in order to defeat N, who has awakened the other. The in-game backstory in B/W as to how these dragons were created is a legend of ancient times in which two twins fought each other, and a legendary dragon which they both attempted to control. As a result of the twins' disagreements, the dragon split into two (a light dragon and a dark dragon, aka Reshiram and Zekrom). In the end, the fight between these two opposites results in the complete destruction of the region.

That legend sound familiar?

It's the plot of MOTHER 3.

Notice the similar geological landmarks. The ones that immediately stick out are the two mountains and their valley, and Murasaki Forest.

Nowhere_islands.jpg

They don't look the same to me, but could any chance of semblance be simply based off of the fact that locations are modeled after japan?

That's easy to explain...in the Japanese Blue version, which the text of the International RB was drawn from, it was a Kadabra for Graveler trade, two Pokemon who evolve when traded. They switched it back to the Electrode for Raichu trade like it was in the Japanese Red and Green, but didn't change the text.

Right, but due to the infancy of the internet back then, the rumors exploded large in part because of this error.

If you guys liked the AJ one, there's also Joe and Giselle from "The School of Hard Knocks" that can be found on Route 6.

If you talked to the trainers facing one another in Red/Blue they would tell you to leave them alone as they were in a private conversation. They would each fight you separately with the male trainer having a Squirtle and the female trainer having a Pikachu and Rattata. In Pokemon Yellow however their dialogue is changed to reference that they are training, fighting out of love, and learning from textbooks. Joe and Giselle both attended a prestigious Pokemon Academy to learn how to battle, and Giselle specifically ridiculed Ash and company for their lack of textbook knowledge on training.

Furthermore Joe and Giselle both fight in the anime with a Weepinbell and Cubone respectively, and these are monsters you will fight in Pokemon Yellow if you are to talk with these trainers.

Why Nintendo seemed to go out of their way to replace only three basic trainers to go along with the anime story line is unknown, but it is striking that Joe, Giselle, and AJ are all very close to one another within the game progression, and is possible that the developers thought to continue this but ultimately found it to be too much work that would get little notice.

In Chrono Cross, Serge's initial weapon is called "Sea Swallow".

"Sea Swallow" was Irene Lew's codename at the CIA in Ninja Gaiden (NES).

Masato Kato, the director of Chrono Cross, was the image illustrator for Ninja Gaiden.

Seems like he should have stuck to illustrating. (Though I quite like Chrono Cross, but it has a lot of washed out components that clearly needed more focus, quality over quantity, people!)

Pokémon Yellow is filled with anime references.

The Pokémon you can't catch in the wild? Team Rocket pokémon and Ash's long time nemesis, Beedrill. (Also Jynx and Magmar but those don't fit the pattern.)

Everyone probably knows this already, but it JUST occurred to me:

Zato-1 from Guilty Gear.

1 in Japanese is "ichi".

Zato-ichi.

Zatoichi.

This is even worse than my fifteen years to figure out Miles Prower = Miles Per Hour.

This episode was one of my favorites when I was a child :D

This one is very minor but if you have a 3DS and the top screen is displaying the rotating icons when the cartridge slot is selected and empty, if you tap the 3DS console it will make the icons spin. Similar to inserting a game or stylus but with gyroscope!

In Pokemon Yellow a random trainer on Route 9 is replaced from the original trainer in Red/Blue with a "Youngster" who only battles with a Sandshrew. If you talk to him after beating him he will inform you that you beat his 100 battle winning streak.

AJ_Yellow.png

This is actually based off of a character found in the anime AJ, who appeared in the episode The Path to the Pokemon League, who also battled with a Sandshrew and had a 100 win streak until he fought Ash.

200px-AJ.png

While it makes sense considering Pokemon Yellow was supposed to be more like the anime, this is one of the few basic trainers that was actually replaced to fit the anime, and most people never noticed.

I'm proud to say that I was aware of this from the first time I played Yellow.

THIS, however, I never picked up on. Mind Blown.

So the cop giving you Squirtle in Yellow is the Officer Jenny from the Squirtle Squad episode?

Yep, knew this one too! Yellow was a Pokemon diehard's wet dream.

I think Emerald did this as well (or was it one of the Gen IV games?) as there were trainers named off of movie characters, such as a double battle with Diane and Butler from Movie 6, and Rebecca from Movie 7.

It's not the gyro making them spin, it's the microphone. Blow on it and you'll see. I first noticed this when I had my 3DS out in a bus during the first few days I had it. I couldn't work out why the icons were suddenly spinning at many times normal speed and it didn't tweak until later that it was the ambient sound of the engine setting it off.

From an interview with the creator of SF1:
1UP: What about the fireball and dragon punch? Were those your ideas?

TN: Yeah, those were mine. I was inspired by anime and manga from the time, so for example the Hadouken was inspired by a Japanese anime called Space Battleship Yamato. In that, the battleship has a laser missile called Hadouho -- it collects energy and then blasts it into space, destroying the enemy. That that's where I got the idea for the Hadouken. The Shoryuken and Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku were original ideas -- I took martial arts moves and exaggerated them so they looked like special attacks.
...and here I thought it was based on the Kamehameha

Cool ... but i like to point another mind blowing irony here :

One name you might not know, which should be on that list, is Takashi Nishiyama, who designed the original Street Fighter at Capcom before leaving to run SNK's development division, putting games like Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, and Samurai Shodown under his belt. In 2000, he founded the company that would become Dimps, itself a below-the-radar team that's worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog, Dragon Ball Z, and Street Fighter series, amongst others.

So basicaly .. the street fighter creator created the company that everyone complains about messing with the street fighter series ? xD

I was playing the Wolverine table in Marvel Pinball, and one point Wolverine said "Hey, Tin Woodsman! I'm sending you back to Oz, in pieces!"

I recognized that line from the second episode of X-Men: The Animated Series, when they're fighting the Sentinels. :P I don't think he ever said it in the comics or anything else. I thought it was a cool reference.
Shame it really highlighted how awesome his TAS voice actor is compared to his current voice actor.

To be fair, Street Fighter really isn't a brilliant game. Street Fighter II, on the other hand...

Man, that is so cool. I have been noticing little things like that too. On the Blade table, one of the missions involves you storming a night club hunting vampires. The dot matrix shows these girls dancing and techno music starts playing just like the opening of the Blade movie. XD

If you are a hardcore Rare fan, you might have already noticed time ago, but just a little ago I realized that Sabrewulf from Killer Instinct is...

... well...

SabreWulf.

Since most people(and even popular Nintendo sites) don't seem to know that:

VrlZE.jpg

is not the same as

i0JsQ.jpg

The first one(evil) is called "Lakitu" and is giving you hell in various Mario games. He's also an unlockable driver
in Mario Kart 7 for 3DS.

The second one(good) is called "Lakito" and works as a cameraman/etc for a company called Lakita. He's also the guy operating the tow tru....eh...cloud in Mario Kart.

both are the same species(lakitus) though, a "special" breed(gone wrong?) of koopas which all need to wear glasses.

The evil Lakitu has sometimes red (evil) eyes as seen in Super Mario World while the good Lakitu has sometimes green ones like in Super Mario Kart

I have never heard anything about the Lakitu/Lakito thing, and it's not even on Mario Wiki. Where did you hear it from? (cause that would be pretty mind blowing if true!)

I read about it in a videogames magazine a long time ago. it was in an "linked" article from a Mario 64 review afair. They wrote about the lakitus and the new one being cameraman in Mario 64.

edit: it seems that the german mario wiki mentions it as well. They wrote that the company Lakito's working for is called "Lakita AG".

badly translated first sentence:
Don't confuse Lakitu with the always helpful Laikto who operates the camera for Mario by order of the Lakita AG. etc etc

edit No2: I will look if I can find the mag and scan the article(if I find it). Luckily I kept most of my magazines and didn't trash them.

his cloud isn´t really a cloud but more a living "snow dumpling". a dessert made of egg white beaten until stiff mixed with sugar.
but you are right nevertheless. it should desolve in water :/

Man, due to this Mario lost all semblance of realism to me :/

How will I ever be able to enjoy the game now?

I suspect this one is just a translation issue. From what I can tell, they're one and the same in Japan.

I just checked the first stage of Mario 64 on Wii VC. The "Lakita-AG" company is mentioned in the german translation. The english version only mentions the Lakitu-Bros which are the two camera-"men" in Mario 64. I guess one is called Lakitu and one Lakito.

I just like how the evil one is a right-hander and the good one is a lefty!

Right handed folks tend to hold a fishing rod with the left hand cause you have to operate the fishing reel with your stronger (right) hand; even reeless rods (like Lakito's rod). at least that's how I, my bro and my dad are fishing. all right handed

Not in Mario. They're made of bushes.

zing!

HAL Laboratory made a Game Boy Game called "Trax" about a tank.

CNxD1.gif

The tank was lost to he ages until it made a cameo in Kirby Super Star Ultra.

LgymW.jpg

So that little tank enemy has his own game. :P

Apparently, according to Kirby Wiki, the RPG mini-game in Kirby Mass Attack has Kirby ride on the Moto Shotzo (what Trax is called in Kirby) away from a boss from Trax, too.

Kirby Super Star also had an enemy named Capsule J based off Konami's Twinbee, who was altered in Ultra to not be a copyright violation.
