Metallica fans and thrash metal bands in general, there's a new book coming out put out by Bazillion Points called "Murder In The Front Row." It's a photo book of the prominent thrash bands including tons of Metallica ones. The Legacy/Testament, Exodus, Megadeth, Slayer, Forbidden, Vio-Lence, etc.

Can someone give some examples of a live show where a song was cut? i never really notice it, so I'm useless looking an example lol.

Doesn't get better than this concert, IMO. The sound mix is perfect, the drums, guitars and vocals all sound raw and heavy. James, before he blew his voice, was pretty epic.

Yeah, the concerts on the Binge & Pure DVD are awesome. They full concerts can also be found on Youtube.

Mustaine's Facebook.

Please do Hit The Lights.

This was on Megadeth's facebook about an hour ago

Megadeth said:
Breaking news!! After almost three decades, Dave Mustaine will be playing with Metallica again on stage tonight in San Francisco for Metallica's fourth and final intimate sold out show at the Fillmore as part of the week-long celebration of its 30th anniversary as a band. Dave will be playing five songs with Metallica; "Hit The Lights", "Metal Militia", "Phantom Lord", "Jump In the Fire", and "Seek And Destroy".

I'm kind of surprised he would do this really. They're celebrating 30 years together and he was there for like a year lol

Mustaine had a fairly significant impact on Metallica's initially and their development during the early 80's, so claiming 'he was only there a year' is underselling his contribution.

Yeah I know he helped write a few solos and riffs on the 1st album, but I was talking more about Dave's huge ego allowing him to do this. This seems like something that would rub more salt in his wound.

I saw on their FB feed the other night that they played To Live is To Die at their 30th Anny show, where would one listen to that? Are these shows going to be released as CDs/DVDs?

i wonder what's up with that new logo. three Xs, it doesn't even make much sense. There are four people in the band and the Xs look nothing like the old lightning M or ninja star.

fake edit: i guess 30 years. roman numerals and all.

He found religion a few years back, so he got over a lot of it. He played with them during that Big 4 show too that I went to.

Metallica releases all of their live shows in MP3 and FLAC format via www.livemetallica.com. In fact, they've been doing so for nearly a decade. Quite progressive, huh? I've downloaded tons of shows from them, the quality is always impeccable. Also, each show is being recorded in HD, hopefully for some sort of mega 30th anniversary boxset. Regardless, I've already preordered all 4 shows in FLAC! Really wish I was there, especially right at this moment as Mustaine and Metallica rip through 5 songs... Mustn't grumble, though, as I had my Metallica / Fillmore experience in 2003, and it was incredible.

He found religion but that doesn't erase his ego. I think in his book that came out this year he bitched about the placement Megadeth was in in one of the Big 4 shows. He didn't like being behind Slayer.

That riff was pretty badass but the rest of the song was really meh. I can see why all but the 1st song they put out was cut. Hate Train should have been in the album.

WTF they should have just released DM as a double album!

Well, I can honestly say I'm pumped for their next album.

Also, I wonder what kind of stuff was left off of Ride, Master, Justice, and Metallica >:]

They've never mentioned anything about any leftover songs from those albums, but they've been very open about the leftovers and unfinished songs from St. Anger and Death Magnetic, so I think pretty much nothing. Only like some riffs or something of course as far as we know.

I really like Hate Train and Rebel of Babylon. I definitely think they probably could've been included on Death Magnetic if they'd chose to.

I think they definitely could've, although they probably had some excuse about them not fitting with the album in general. They're awesome, probably the best I've heard from 'tallica in a LONG time.

That said, Just a Bullet Away definitely shows how much Lars' drumming has deteriorated. I cringed quite a few times (although, y'know, unreleased, perhaps not polished up).

Pretty sure they've made it clear there is no unused material from the early albums. I mean, obviously there are riffs and shit. But, pretty confident there are zero unreleased demos even. Those first few records came out so close together, I'm sure anything worth a damn was just used next time. And then once they got to the Loads, they didn't believe in getting rid of ideas, and beat every riff into a full song, which is why those albums are below par (not that I don't still love a lot of the songs on them).

So yeah. Like you said, outside of Anger and Magnetic, we've heard all there is. We won't be seeing vault releases from them or anyhthing. If they existed, we would have heard them by now since they have always loaded up the singles releases with demos and shit, plus the fan can CD's.

kind of feel of the metallica news wagon since death magnetic.

Anway.... they have done alot of awesome stuff this week with those 30th celebration shows.

Whats up with the unreleased Death Magnetic songs all of a sudden?

I guess after LuLu they want to show some awesome stuff ASAP but is "beyond magnetic" a thing thats getting released that I can buy? where are they releasing these songs? theres nothing on there site.

Gouty

Bloodborne is shit
Metallica should do the right thing.

And release a bluray set of the 4 shows w/ mp3 downloads.

It would be prudent.

Just something special for the 30th anniversary shows. Like previously talked about, they don't really have any other unreleased songs (outside of St. Anger garbage). So yeah, debut one a night at these shows and then emailed them out to fan club members the next day.

That MetClub thing always seemed weird to me...

Why? I'm sure they didn't want just casual fans who aren't going to know what's special about what they're seeing there. Why the fuck would you want someone who is like "what's the guitarist from Megadeth doing here?" to get tickets over the hardcore fans?

1981-1989 Metallica was best Metallica

I don't think anyone would dispute that

edit: Also I have to change my opinion on rebel of babylon. I'm really starting to like it more and more, especially the live version they did 2 days ago.
