Both are about a bunch of cute girls doing cute stuff while doing stuff like hanging around, and indeed most of the bronies are not watching it because they are masterful epics about saving Equestria from whatever the monster of the week is. MLP is more farcical thanks to its roots as a Western animu, but at the core it is a showcase of exaggerated character traits and how they interact with other hypercharged personalities.
