Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Thread: Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skylanders!

I rented Saints Row a couple weeks ago, and I had a hard time getting in to it at first, but I warmed up quite nicely to it after a few missions in. It's $35 at Best Buy and Amazon right now, so I bought my own copy.

I'm ok with Trackmania being 3rd in Jeff's list. It's my personal GOTY but I can see the issues it has. I hope they improve the UI for the snow expansion.

Also, as much as I adore that game, United is still the better one.

The real question mark here is Vinny. Ryan and Jeff will come down on the side of Saints Row, Patrick and Brad on Skyrim... but I'm not sure where Vinny falls.

He took too much darn vacation at the end of the year, he's completely in the dark!

Haven't watched the top 10 yet, but someone above mentioned that Jeff states his spot is not for the PS3 version of Skyrim? It'll be interesting to see what roll that plays. Could be the deciding factor like multiplayer was for Uncharted 2 vs. Batman AA

Day 3 and loving every bit of it. I have to say I am a little bit scared to see what Patrick's list is going to contain since he's, you know, "special."

I wouldn't be so sure that Patrick votes for Skyrim. He seemed at least a little down on it when they talked about the PS3 version.

I just wasn't sure how much of Witcher 2 everyone has seen. When you've seen it maxed on PC at a good resolution there's no doubting it's the best looking game ever made... I was just wondering how many of them would've had that experience.

Better than Skyrim making it. I liked that Jeff qualified that the PS3 version would not make his list.

See, I always mention what system I played the games on. It takes one little word and all problems are solved

Witcher 2 has some problems. Its not as strong as others on the technical aspect and the animations still hit a lot of walls. It it really is that perfect blend of using PC's higher capabilities with an amazingly strong Artistic backing. There is no other game this year that really brings it full force like this.

that's the problem, awesome graphics but only people with the best rigs can see the best from it. but it still looks awesome at lower settings.

I can't wait until all games look as good as Witcher 2 does. If Skyrim looked like that... fucking hell.

It's so goddamn immersive.

Brads complaint about Rayman is so mind boggling to me.

Agreed, never had a problem with the worlds having a consistent look, at a certain point if one environment is grating there's the option of going to another for a stage or two.

Odd how quick BF3 got dropped, even of PS3 it does some amazing things.

Skyrim could prolly look like that after someone makes super texture mods for it like they did for Oblivion.

No, not really.

Vinny is basically the only dude who could probably pick games that are also in my top 10. Obviously this makes him the most interesting member of the team. Well, Dave too, if he counts.

Just finished with the podcast. Pretty good overall.

One thing though, since the best graphics award was more about the art style than resolution or polygon count, I think Alice deserved to be mentioned at least. I'm starting to think that they (or al least Ryan) completely forgot about that game (or maybe it looks super bad on consoles, I dunno).

This shit is why the only thing I ever watch from GT is the Retrospectives (Which peaked with the Star Wars and FF ones) and AVGN.

The most embarrassing GT moment isn't on that vid, After GTA4 launched one of the cast of their podcast said it had a shit sound-track because it didn't have any songs he knew on it;
fucking pathetic way of thinking. (ie the GT way)

check out Pop-Fiction too. GREAT show.

Thanks for the reminder, stopped with the Master-Hand ep and forgot all about it.

Can't wait for them to discus 'Worst' and 'biggest disappointments' I have no idea what their picks will be; although since Alex has been tampering with the lists Blackwater should be in contention.
