Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Thread: Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skylanders!

I can completely see why. I didn't even finish the coop in Portal 2. For me it's mostly just that I didn't have fun playing it with whoever I was playing with. I am pretty good at spacial puzzles and my experience has been that I had to tell my partner what to do so he can keep up. Basically I had to play two parts at the same time. That is really not what I am looking for in a coop experience.

Gears is a great choice with the campaign, Horde and Beast mode.
Is it really okay to fault the game because your partner isn't too sharp?

Witcher 2 needs more love. My game of the year, followed closely by Skyrim and DoTA 2.

Then everyone isn't too sharp. I have not head a single good experience with the coop. I would have rather had more SP content. I would have especially appreciated a harder campaign because it was so easy.

I had plenty of success with partners.

What you're describing isn't really something you can fault the game for, any more than you can fault a fighting game if everyone you fight with is a scrub.

Red Faction Guerrilla has at LEAST the second-best multiplayer this generation. Not only did Armageddon ditch the fabulous open-world of its predecessor, and the timeline, but it got rid of the BRILLIANT multiplayer ENTIRELY! And Volition didn't even confirm that it was gone until like 3 weeks before release. And they did so begrudgingly after their forums were ablaze with panic and desperate "please, why aren't you answering us? PLEASE!?"

Most disappointing game in the history of history.

I haven't even tried the Portal 2 co-op yet.. well I did shortly so I could help someone on my friendlist get an achievement :/

I can vouch for Gears 3 campaign co-op though! Again, haven't even tried Horde mode.

Yeah but it is easy to have fun in Gears 3 coop and there are even 3 variations to boot!

Kinda surprised that Ico/SOTC won Best HD Remake after they ran into that debilitating bug where even if you hold the button you still fall off randomly!

Yup, I agree.

My experience with Portal 2 co-op was pure joy. Working together to figure out the solutions, 50/50, experimenting with different tactics.

It was great.

Oh wow, they're doing a "top ten games of the year for Giant Bomb" this year. I wondered what they were going to do with no "Best PS3, Best 360, Best PC, etc" awards this year. I had suggested Best Exclusive, Best Multiplat, and Best Mobile.

Their idea is much better. They've always avoided ordering candidates in the past. I wonder if they'll bother tomorrow?

Looking forward to it.

The part where you
have to slam into each other in mid-air
was one of the coolest smartest moments in puzzle gaming, single player or multiplayer.

Someone watching me play suggested it, and as the gears slowly turned in my head and I realized it might actually work, excitedly telling my partner (another GAFfer) what to do, giving a huge clap when we really pulled it off. So cool.

I think that's the stand out moment for most people in the co-op. My girlfriend and I weren't totally sure if it would work, but we had tried everything else and we were both going "AHHH" as we were flying towards each other.

Brilliance.

Let's see,
- Deposed royalty (Space Pharaoh-Pirate-Sheik Jeff)
- Sharpshooter (SombRyan)
- Magic-user (Bradalf)
- Bruiser (Vinny Freeman)

Ladies and gentlemen, looks like we have ourselves an RPG party. Of JRPG proportions, even.

Portal 2 getting dismissed for Best Co-op makes me sad. Best co-op of the generation. :(

Also hilarious Jeff ranting on about how Persona team making a puzzle game qualifies it as "most disappointing" and everyone else shutting him down.

Portal 2's coop strikes me as something that people would hate if they did it with someone stupid or that they couldn't communicate directly with. I played it with an intelligent human being over a Teamspeak server and it was BY FAR the best coop I've played since L4D.

Wow, Trackmania didn't make it into the top 3 for best downloadable game? I thought Jeff was going to push hard for that, it's legitimately worthy.

I wish LittleBigPlanet 2 would have at least gotten a shoutout for Best Co-op. It wouldn't win, but a little acknowledgement would have been cool.

What does downloadable only mean anyway?

Most of PC gaming today is download only.
There is no download with Onlive.

Call it best downloadable console game.

Hearing the guys talk nonsense about the Witcher 2's development is embarrassing.

The whole UI is designed around a 360 pad, it's a DX9 game, it's a console port without a console version more or less.

yea, pretty much made for the gamepad. thats how I play it.

Vinny giving Dark Souls love and shouting out the Anor Londo archers part...he truly is a god amongst men. <3 Vinny, even though he completely snubbed Skyrim in his list :o

Also it's quite evident that Saints Row is their GOTY now, 3/5 of them have already said it's their number 1 game.

This makes me smile. For I shall be playing it with a 5770 & 360 controller.

Space Marine, Dark Souls, Saint's Row, and Witcher 2. It's like Vinny knows he's GAF's favorite.

If only he had Deus Ex on there. It'd be all over.... and Gundam Extreme Vs

Wow, Vinny's list was unexpected. SR3? Three of them having the same #1, pretty much a lock for GotY then, eh?

I should probably play Saint's Row.

if he had those two as well I'd be in love.

You should totally play Saints Row!

Did they even mention the MGS collection for the HD remake award?

No, which I'm blown away by. List should've been Team Ico / MGS / Ocarina. Could've just completely slipped their mind, but they did do a quicklook of it, so it's been played. I wanted to scream at my iPhone: "YOU'RE FORGETTING SOMETHING!!!!"

'Bout time for a thread title change, don't you guys think? This whole thing hasn't been all about Skyrim AT ALL.

Saving it up for the GOTY deliberations probably.
Also, having just recently replayed Dead Space 2 (360), there's no way in hell it matches the sheer variety, scope and attention to details of Uncharted 3. It's got a great lightning engine but other than that...
