PSM: PS4 specs more powerful than Xbox 720

seems a little early to know? well, i hope it's not too much more powerful/exotic when compared to the 720 or a pc. after the ps3
and possibly vita soon
you'd hope that someone at sony would realize having the bigger dick isn't going to work when you price yourself out of the competition

I guess they learned a lot from all the developer feedback (hopefully).
No more split RAM pools, pitiful GPU memory bandwidth, etc
skjdkqhq why do people keep aping this?

There is nothing wrong with split ram pools, that is how it is being (and has been) done on pc for ages.

The only problem with the ps3 was the combination of simply not enough ram and a split pool.
Xbox was a bit more flexible because of the unified ram but it still doesn't have enough either...

The advantage of a split pool is normally that you can have more of it, cheaper (like on pc), but for some godforsaken reason sony chose to only go with 256MB ram +256MB vram.
Split pool lets you have a nice amount of cheaper system ram that doesn't have to be as fast as vram (yesyes extra cost for motherboard bladibladiblah, it's small compared to the cost of the ram chips themselves, yesyes cognitive dissonance argument of it adds up over 50 million units while ignoring that again compared to the cost of a big unified pool or the unit cost it is pretty insignificant) which is awesome for multitasking, buffering/streaming etc.

Do you really want them to go with a limited pool of unified ram and have to deal with terrible loading times between races/levels/maps while the system struggles to flush the ram and refill it from the slow as shit HDD/dic?

PS vita has a split pool, what makes you think ps4 couldn't have one again too?

in before : "Why not 8 GB ram then lulz!11" sarcasm...

Frankly I don't care how they do it, but if I have to deal with obnoxious loading times AGAIN I'm hanging up my coat for the consoles next gen.
Poor loading times have been pretty much a thing of the past (yesyes there are a few exceptions, very few) on pc for over a decade, it's not acceptable.
I want to play not stare at loading bars.

sounds good, PSM. now get back to work on my memory card stickers, and the lid ones too.
You, I like. That is what I think of when I see PSM. I miss the days of picking up magazines for gaming news. Just felt fun. Sorry, gaf... your "clever" OT titles are only just ok in comparison.

Can some technical GAFFERs please explain what benefits Sony would have in keeping Cell as a processor in PS4. There have been arguments for and against it in the past, but I was under the impression that as a CPU, it's still quite a bit more powerful than anything else. Are there design revisions that can be made to the Cell to make it more efficient and easy to develop for? If it's more powerful, it seems like it would be a waste to not continue using it considering all the time, energy and money Sony and developers have spent on it.

When sony had the least powerful consoles (N64 and gamecube/xobx had better specs) they were at the top of the world. Consumers are weird

I can believe that PS4 will be more powerful but by how much?
If MS is bundling kinect 2.0 then that is what is surely effecting the spec to keep the price down.
But isn't PS3 meant to be more powerful and we all know how that goes.

You watch all the 2012 PS3 titles run on PS4 (assuming PS4 launches within 16 months or so). Upgraded Cell for the... something.

just do me a favor and go as the main dude from hot fuzz this year.

i was thinking about Axel from Streets of Rage, but id have to bulk up a bit too...this would be a lot easier. huh.

god, they were amazing in the day. didn't hurt that i'd have issues where they'd have to sort out what their pick of the year was: MGS1 or SoTN. i'll always be grateful for some of the hidden gems they put me onto as well.

I would be more excited if this was the Sony from PS1/PS2 days.

Now the company seems lost, I will not be betting on them next gen
