Meh, Pachter is oft insane or pointless but I'm with him in thinking that Nintendo won't get any major third party support. History repeats.Did Pachter just predict that developers are too dumb to figure out the controller AND they hate Nintendo?
Yea, and until third parties goes for some AAA effort, it will never change.Last I checked their proprietary software still makes other software look small time.
Sometimes I get the impression some of them would rather go down than work on a game for a Nintendo system. I know it's stupid and it doesn't make sense, but the other explanation is that there's a shocking amount of incompetence in the industry, which...you know what, that's probably more accurate.
Did Pachter just predict that developers are too dumb to figure out the controller AND they hate Nintendo?
Nope. Four years in, he'll claim that PS4 is actually Wii U 2 Super HD. Just like he recently claimed PS3 was the mysterious "Wii HD" he was always talking about.
I would really love if Sony puts a screen on the controller. I much prefer that to be a more standard gimmick of next generation. Would love that much more than I (haven't) enjoyed motion being the gimmick of this gen.
Yes, because it took Vigil only TWO WHOLE LINES OF CODE to make Darksiders 2 fully playable on the Wii U controller.
Dunno if it's been brought up, but after checking out a little bit of CES news I thought of something. Not that personally believe or expect any of it but it might be cool to bat around for some idle speculation.
Since we had some debate over what sort of technologies Nintendo could use for Wii U to communicate with the controller, what about 802.11ac? For those that don't know this is the latest iteration of the 802.11 standard. What I didn't realize was that it's far enough along that it will be released this year. Since it offers very high bandwidth (450Mbps and upto 3.6Gps max) and greater range (apparently enough to cover a house) it seems like a good fit for Wii U use cases. Secondly, it's being trumpeted by Broadcom who has been providing wireless chips to Nintendo since they started adding them. So obviously whatever wireless solution is being used will not only be manufactured by them but they are probably technology advisers in that space. The standard also supports the ad-hoc Wifi-direct means of communication which would be ideal for a console to communicate with a controller and low power requirements which could increase battery life in the tablet.
While it might be early for them to have the full spec chips since they wouldn't want to be set back if there are delays what are the chances they could use a draft chip or at least a similar chip designed by Broadcom?

Sounds expensive.
Surprisingly, from what one can find skimming the usual places, the biggest Wii U supporter next to Ubisoft seems to be THQ. I see nothing from EA, Take 2/ Rockstar or Bethesda at this point. Nothing from EA seems exceptionally weird after last E3 and company statements over the last few months, but maybe they're simply unusually secretive.
The fact that even Ubisoft is not talking anymore implies that Nintendo is being more stern about keeping Wii U news quiet.
I'm just paraphrasing Pachter-man. No need to get sarcastic.
From the other "PS4 is more powerful" thread:
"Expect a small controller surprise"
Does anyone know the context for this quote or can they direct me to it? If its just some gaffer claiming inside info then whatever but if its from an article or something I'd like to think it through.
I'm not sure of his credentials but you're not allowed to make shit up on GAF, tis bannable.A little (but reliable) bird told me that ND has been a worthy Kutaragi replacement for PS4 development.
Unless they ignored them, PS4 will follow the PS3 route. That doesn't mean 599. It may be balanced by the cheaper bluray and other stuff.
Also a small controller surprise should be expected.

I believe it too. I don't even have a hard time assuming that the surprise is a screen. Would be cool to have that as a standard for next gen, something devs can play with. Don't think Microsoft would do it though. Not that I careI can believe it. The AMD CPU rumor(s) sound like something they might have suggested for PS4 for much easier development.

You ARE the hologram! Please. Definitely holographic projection.
Here's my prediction for E3:
Iwata comes out and announces that the Wii U's name has been changed.
A trailer is then shown with tons of games looking 10x better than anything currently seen.
A new company's logo is shown.
Then...the system's true name is revealed at last...
...SPLORGENBORG!
Iwata laughs.
The Nintendo-Capcom Splorgenborg wins E3.
Sony and MS fan boys cry.
Don't worry, Iwata's in control.NO, GOD! NO GOD PLEASE NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-
I don't need a gif to say that for me in this case.

Any updates on the DBZ powerlevel of this thing?

Currently training in the hyperbolic timechamber.
It's probably the most likely wireless tech I've come across. The final spec won't be decided until after the Wii U goes to market, but that's irrelevant, as Nintendo doesn't need the Wii U to be interoperable with any other 802.11ac devices.
Yes, but any tech that provides the bandwidth and reliability Nintendo needs is going to be expensive. This at least has the advantage that, as the technology will inevitably become more widely adopted, prices will come down considerably over the life of the console. Furthermore, Nintendo don't need to implement the entire feature-set of the specification, just enough to get a single-directional data stream of about the base 433Mbps to a (likely) single device.
No. 802.11ac is a protocol for two-way communication between a wireless station and a wireless data source (a router). Nintendo only needs to send video (a very specific type of data) in one direction (other communication will be over Bluetooth). No need for as much error correction, plethora of security features and congestion control the entire 802.11 suite provides. Standard 802.11ac also gets interference from 802.11n routers.Since we had some debate over what sort of technologies Nintendo could use for Wii U to communicate with the controller, what about 802.11ac?

Is this that show with all the yelling and the punching and the angry people?
I agree, that's mental and pisses me off but you can get by perfectly with 802.11g. You can't get by on Wii U with a slow, unreliable communication pth between the console and controller. Nintendo will have to ensure its perfect. This is the same company that released a handheld that's meant to last 5-7 years without 802.11n in 2011. It's not happening.

This is a serious discussion, here! DBZ is required watching you heathen! Take these DVD boxsets and come back when you're ready to have an adult conversation about Japanese fighting cartoons!!
(The wait for E3 will be worse than waiting for Namek to explode and wanting the Garlic Jr. saga to end COMBINED! D'![]()
Prospect of the Wii U at CES is like the end of the Garlic Jr. saga approaching. So close to something good, but in the end they're just going to be rerunning the Namek saga...
10 year old me was pissed for two weeks
So I heard from people I can trust on the subject that there is a bit of indecision going on with Japanese developers on the Wii U.
Namco hasn't decided to make a new Ridge Racer game for the system's launch or simply port Unbounded.
Konami is seemingly not able or willing to persuade Kojima Productions to port Project Ogre to the system. The engines would probably port pretty well, but they apparently just don't have the time to do it.

I don't think those two examples can really be used to extrapolate for all Japanese developers in general. Konami has been the weakest supporter of the 3DS of the major Japanese publishers, but that has been no reflection on the rest of the industry. The MGS3D fiasco put a lot doubt in people's mind about the 3DS and Japanese support, which never came true.So I heard from people I can trust on the subject that there is a bit of indecision going on with Japanese developers on the Wii U.
But is that because of indecision about the WiiU or indecision about Ridge Racer? I can totally understand Namco not wanting to release a third new entry in the series in less than a year. The franchise is in ruins and they're attempting a reboot.Namco hasn't decided to make a new Ridge Racer game for the system's launch or simply port Unbounded.
Disappointing if true but the way its worded sounds misleading. Fox Engine is their multiplatform engine. If they were unwilling to port that, that would be bad, but its not necessarily if it just Project Ogre. We no nothing about the game, it could be their untitled PSV game, in which case a WiiU port wouldn't really be an expectation.Konami is seemingly not able or willing to persuade Kojima Productions to port Project Ogre to the system. The engines would probably port pretty well, but they apparently just don't have the time to do it.
