Honestly, after RR Vita, I don't trust Namco with anything anymore.
So I heard from people I can trust on the subject that there is a bit of indecision going on with Japanese developers on the Wii U.
Namco hasn't decided to make a new Ridge Racer game for the system's launch or simply port Unbounded.
Konami is seemingly not able or willing to persuade Kojima Productions to port Project Ogre to the system. The engines would probably port pretty well, but they apparently just don't have the time to do it.

the system is already fucked
Christ. I thought Nintendo's biggest difficulty by far would be with Western developers, but if they're not even competent enough to convince Japanese developers to bring HD multiplatform titles to Wii U, the system is already fucked as far as the core market is concerned.
Edit: The KojiPro bit is particularly insane, considering that Project Ogre is probably an H2 2013 title and that Wii U ought to have built up a decent userbase by then.
WII U ALREADY DEAD!
I appreciate Alberto's info, but it has the unfortunate side effect of having everyone blow it the fuck out of proportion.
Jesus.
Well, we'll see what Nintendo and third parties do and don't announce at E3. If there isn't clear evidence there that Nintendo has a core software strategy in place before the system launches - which, as a prerequisite, requires establishing Wii U as a standard SKU for HD multiplatform releases (though that's not going to be enough in itself) - said strategy isn't likely to materialize by launch, let alone afterwards.
I think you will be disappointed then, as I don't see (all)games that are going to be released around the Wii U launch window being released for it (as they probably were started before Nintendo firmed up the release date), but going forward I expect more simultaneous releases (depending on Wii U sales, obviously).
No. 802.11ac is a protocol for two-way communication between a wireless station and a wireless data source (a router). Nintendo only needs to send video (a very specific type of data) in one direction (other communication will be over Bluetooth). No need for as much error correction, plethora of security features and congestion control the entire 802.11 suite provides. Standard 802.11ac also gets interference from 802.11n routers.
They won't use anything resembling WLAN technology in the tablet. They just need a radio that can send a relatively high number of bits to some device that is relatively near (within ~10m) the radio.

Everyone just shut the fuck up and sit quietly whilst we wait for E3.
What does a 3DS need 802.11n for?
Screw the rules! I have Rupees!
It's the current standard. Without it, some people have to choose between reducing their router's speed or not using 3DS online. This is especially the case for something that needs to last 5+ years. It's very frustrating.
The Namco bit doesn't sound like a bad thing. The bit about Kojima is somewhat disappointing, but it really depends on what kind of resources they have right now, and so on. The game won't be out for a long time so it's not really a pressing decision for them to port the game or not.

You're saying that as if 3DS is the sole impediment toward some 802.11n utopia. People won't just through out all their 802.11g devices overnight. You'll either need dual-radio access points and 5GHz n clients, or you'll be staying mixed-mode for a long time ahead. And I'm not talking about 5 years ahead - think a decade. It's the current standard. Without it, some people have to choose between reducing their router's speed or not using 3DS online. Having a giant touch screen in front of me sounds ideal for MGS. I'm not joking. Easily switch items, change camo, use items, radar, codec, etc. It's almost as if the controller was designed for the stealth genre.
I doubt Nintendo is choosing to keep silent on Wii U news because of Sony and Microsoft's next-gen plans. Nintendo's always said that it doesn't concern itself with what its competitors are doing. .
I don't know any router that doesn't also support 802.11b as well...
So, rumors that the next XBox will have a tablet like the Wii U...
Yup.
Seems like Nintendo saw what was coming and decided they would show off their console first last E3.

Correct. And considering there are several technologies already in use by consumer products which are designed specifically for streaming video to nearby devices via wireless, there's no need for Nintendo to use yet-to-be released WLAN tech for the tablet.
Wait what
Where did you read this :|
The bigger deal with Ridge Racer, I think, is that they presumably would have been one of the first developers to get a devkit (I mean, what console doesn't launch with RR these days?) but they haven't decided what kind of game to bring out at launch.
This could mean a bunch of things:
1) They don't care
2) Nintendo just got final devkits out and Namco didn't want to start development until that was the case
3) This is going to be a RR Vita situation where they make a game in under six months.
So, rumors that the next XBox will have a tablet like the Wii U...
Yup.
Gawd... please no. Or if there is one, it had better be just tablet. That monstrosity that Nintendo came up with looks like instant carpal tunnel.
All reports from E3 said it was super comfortable.
That's just one of those things that seems so ridiculous, so wrong, that I can't take it on faith.
How so? What is it about the form factor of the U-pad that makes it look uncomfortable? The fact that there's a big-ass tablet between where your actual hands are? It looks to me like the actual grips are more or less standard controller grips.
