Wii U Spotted At CES

I just watched the LG and Samsung press conferences... the consumer electronics brands seem to be getting shit done. That screen on the Wii U controller is just pathetic compared to what we have on $250+ tablets and smartphones.

Fixed for context

Man the controller looks huge. I know that everyone is saying that it is comfortable to hold, but it still looks huge!
I'm more concerned with the slide pads than the size of it. I mean, I can accept them on a portable as a matter of practicality, but who at Nintendo thought using a worse feeling less accurate version of analog sticks would be a good idea on the main controller for their next console?

Do you want a $79 controller, or a $149 controller?

The same place the Wii U is going.

Nowhere

Maybe BurntPork was right to bail.

I still dislike that they seem to be moving away from the Wii Remote standard setup. The tablet looks uncomfortable, I dislike the slidepads replacing actual analogue sticks... it's just... I don't like it.

I'm just messing with him since he always becomes so dramatic lol. I honestly want Nintendo to blow my socks off with the Wii U, but I'm really frustrated by the lack of news.

My hype levels are in check, but I don't want them to be. I want to be excited about Nintendo's first HD console and they haven't given me a thing so far.
Such a basic looking console.
I may be disappointed by Nintendo's lack of information, but the Gamecube taught me to never doubt them. That little box was a powerhouse and the only distinguishing feature was a little handle sticking out of it's rear. I expect the Wii U to be a powerhouse for it's size too.

Believe!

Exactly. I'd forgotten all about it until I saw that picture again. It's one thing to be "Johnny's First Ipad", but jeez, put some damn sticks on the thing. I can't believe they're going to follow through with this insanity.

The screen on the controller looks like it has no illumination at all, like the original Game Boy Advance. I would guess (and hope) that the lighting is simply turned off, and that's not the full extent of the screen's illumination.

That controller is really ugly, and the screen on it looks to be of crappy quality. I wonder if there's an chance for a redesign at E3.

Are they bringing the lamp addon back maybe?

Please tell me that darkness in the controller screen is due to lack of flash of something like that, and not due to horrible viewing angles.

Yeah, this is baffling. I can understand the 3DS since it is a clamshell portable, but there is no reason this controller here can't have real analog sticks. Nintendo choosing something obviously inferior for no reason other than style I suppose.

It will likely have brightness settings, as with other portable devices that need to recharge. That said, the screen on it isn't going to be as high quality as the one in a Vita or iPhone - those expecting that will be disappointed.

I would go with the $150 controller every time if it was quality. I know I'm in the minority though.

I would have no problem paying $200 or $250 for advanced enough controller technology. But you and I are not who sells consoles and who needs to buy replacements for ones that children break etc.

We'll get the $79 controller at the $149 price, I'm sure. :p

Which is still better than the $149 controller for a $249 price.

Your thumbs don't like your opinion. Think about the comfort angle.

Is this the promised re-unveiling of the console? Cause it looks an awful lot like what we saw back at E3.

It is the E3 console. No re-unveiling until E3'12.

I cant imagine playing any action/FPS/fighting game using that controller.

It's a dual-analog pad. With a screen in the middle. The keyword is that it's pretty much the same standard interface that all dual-analog pads share.

Brightness is gonna be fine, but it's probably using a tn display to keep the costs down, so the viewing angles aren't gonna be great.

lools like a toy, just like wii did. Yeah in that little thing is a beast processor and beast GPU roll my eyes.

On other side maybe it's fun to play with, definitely not my thing, since Nintendo seems to be taking same direction.

Looking forward to seeing what they have to show.

My guess is they will save all the cool stuff for E3 though. Especially if they are going up against 720/PS4 announcements.
