Well that was a bit shit wasn't it. No pace or creativity in our attacking play and starting with one striker, let alone Kuyt of all people was a mistake. Don't understand the need to play three centre backs against crouch either.

Huge game against Bolton next week, although its away so we'll probably win.

I don't get why Kenny didn't play two up front and start Bellamy.

Messi's boots.

I don't think Liverpool can get 4th this season unless they buy well over the next 2 weeks. They will just drop too many points cheaply as they have done all season. Chelsea will have some poor results here and there but they'll squeeze out enough wins to secure 4th IMO.

I would say he was a good yard onside, I'll have to wait until MOTD to make a proper judgement but that was the way it looked from the stands and some guy had SSN on his phone and they said the corner was a goal kick.

Ade was onside, the right back was playing him on. Last touch for the corner came off the Wolves player as well. It was clear on the TV replays. Still, just because it wasn't a corner doesn't mean you have to defend it badly. Dawson and Kaboul got in a mess and Friedel palming it to Fletcher was Gomes-esque.

That formation and 'style' of football was the same kind we (Newcastle) had to put up with the entire season he was in charge of us. Very negative tactics at home, going for the draw, which is why a lot of fans didn't take to him (especially after the Keegan-Era of all out attack).

I wouldn't say he's playing for the draw. It's just are attacking players are crap.

Probably not, but that's the sticking joke Newcastle fans have towards Dalglish after the FA Cup final where he put out a team and tactics to play for the draw against Man U. (The same season John Barnes was Newcastle top goal scorer with 6 goals... granted Shearer was injured for the majority). Strangely enough... this day in 1997 was the exact day Dalglish was appointed Newcastle manager!

EDIT:

Strangely his first 6 months in charge were great and had some highlights (Newcastle beating Barcelona). Made one or two good signings. Then he had his first full season in charge and signed some terrible players and football was very bland and you never looked like winning at home.

Funny comparing him now and him then - like a mirror.

Yeah from where I was sitting it looked like about a yard. Defending was very poor for that corner. It is the same reason we struggle against all long ball teams, our aerial defending is bad and we need to look at either getting Samba in or much better training for it.

Still bad for our championship chances, two points dropped. I feel like we were hard done by the refs, but I think we are also to blame for the dropped points because we lacked cutting edge and our poor defending in the box.

Something something Gerrard, something something Lampard? I kid - but that Liverpool game sounded simply awful. Looking forward to MOTD tonight - only managed to catch bits and pieces of all the games on the radio.

Would love for Mallorca to do us a favor and least manage a tie or something, but that's not going to happen.

Carroll spends more time flat on the floor than he does in the air. It's almost an inevitability that he'll go down under te slightest contact, I think I could out jump him with a bit of pressure applied.

And by the way, all the football boots on this page and incidentally available today are fucking disgusting. Football boot designs have got progressively worse for the last few years culminating in the bright, over complicated space man designs we've got today.

What happened to Carroll? The pressure get to him?

He's just not a very good player and certainly not worth £35m. Newcastle must be laughing themselves silly with that deal. I suppose Liverpool are with the Torres one too, but even he showed signs of life today apparently.

Some of the announcers for the Chelsea game today (on Fox) were suggesting managers don't like the January transfer window and used Carroll and Torres as examples. I figured both Torres and Carroll would be show the door this January...Still time left, I guess.

I watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy today and I barely got jack. Felt quite dumb!!

Best player in the Chelsea squad today, AGAIN. Deservedly won Barclay's Man of the Match for that game. LOVELY to see Essien. Nice to see Cahill watching the game at Stamford Bridge. Otherwise, WHAT THE HELL CHELSEA? Ok, great, three points against an excellent Sunderland - but CMON. You had THREE times more goal attempts. Horrible finish, horrible!

Yet another Chelsea match that nearly gave me a heart attack, thanks largely to the same all BS last 10 minutes of hell - where they have to either A) concede or B) COME VERY DAMN CLOSE TO IT LOL.

Our defense is very, very worrisome. Worst defense from the top 10 teams I bet!

Slow film right? I thought it was alright, could have been better.

Torres almost with the goal of the year. Lampard puts it away. Fantastic build up. There Will Be Goals!!!!

Yes, and he had the best near-chances today from our end ;D

Seeing the replay I still can't believe Nando's luck.

the referee in the chelsea game is horrendous.

What the fuck at Torres getting a yellow card for that. No way a dive, never. It was a penalty.

These damn ref decisions can be a game-breaker. Just look at Tottenham today! And it's enough of Dowd to ignore TWO penalty claims, but giving a yellow card to Torres after he was bloody tackled in the box is PATHETIC.

Serious question here, but when will we see them FINALLY use instant replay tech?

The number of bad decisions is soul crushing.

Couldn't agree more. I'd LOVE to see a compilation of the EPL's ref blunders of the season once it is over. I bet we'd have hours of stuff to watch.

From what I saw of Torres today he played quite well. His overhead kick was ridiculous and he was unlucky not to score from it. If he did, we'd have seen goal of the season for sure.

BTW guys I went to see Ivory Coast play in a friendly yesterday against Tunisia. 2-0 to IC. BEAUTIFUL game.

Highlights:

- Seeing Drobga live was AMAZING.
- Kalou of all people scored the opener, very nice!
- Drogba scored a penalty
- Tiote was excellent, but he got in a fight and got a red card for it :P

Would love for Mallorca to do us a favor and least manage a tie or something, but that's not going to happen.

Even if Mallorca were able to, they'd gift them the win somehow anyway.

Agreed, big time. He's been the better Chelsea player in the last 3 matches now, especially in the last 2 premier league games! Since you guys face Tottenham next week, any chance of a Silva recovery?

Downing should receive just as much criticism as Carroll. Has was bought for £20m and his job was to supply Carroll with crosses that would gives him the opportunity to score. So far Downing has 0 assists to his name in the PL and recently has forgotten how to take on defenders and beat them. He's been useless so far.

What's up Fady? You've been awfully quite recently.

I saw a stat today that said something like John Flanagan has more assists than Downing this season, havine played over 1500 minutes less.

We really need to spend some money on QUALITY this Jan. Weve spent enough on future prospects and premiership proven players, it's not what we need right now.

Downing is a proven EPL player though. No one expected him to be this bad. Carroll was an unknown quantity and £35m was definitely a big gamble, but £20m on Downing, while a high price, is not money being spent on an unknown quantity.

Kyle, how have you been my friend :)? Work has been taking too much time, and with the little free time I get I jump into Mass Effect 2 (have you heard of it? Beautiful, beautiful game!). I keep reading the thread though, definitely missed you guys. What did you think of today's game? Torres deserves so much credit again IMO. True, he's a striker and the result should be more goals, but his contribution to the team has been incredible, and more importantly, played a vital part in winning the game for us in the past few games - Wolves, Portsmouth, and today.

Just realising Torres has 11 assists this season. More than any other Chelsea player.

Holy crap, I knew it would be a double digit number. I think he's one of the top assist-ers this season btw :0!!!

Work, rubbish, but what are you gonna do? I've seen Mass Effect but it never really appealed to me, watched my friend play hours of it though so I'm well versed in the world of ME :lol. As for the game, I think you summed up all my thoughts in your post above. Don't have much more to add, you hit the nail on the head once again.

Think I'm going to check out the assist stats now.

Aside from Sunderland letting me down good results from today's games. We need to make the most of that in our away match to Swansea tomorrow!

Torres was great today, even AVB broke his habit and singled him out for praise after the game. Hope he can string it together against Norwich and the Swans before we play United.

Don't underestimate Swansea. They've conceded just 4 goals at home in the league and their wide players are lightning fast. Without Gervinho and with Miquel and Djourou at full-back, I expect it to be a really difficult game for Arsenal.

ESPN Soccernet, one of the better sites for statistics.

(They say Torres has 7 assists this season)

Elsk, why have you lumbered Dzeko in with those 3?
