The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Really need some quick help.

Just got my VITA and am setting it up

It says:

"Do you want to use your account on your Playstation Vita System?"

i click Use

it then says:

"A system software update is required. Update the system software and then link your account with the Playstation Vita system"

like wtf - it keeps taking me back to the same screen?

am i suppose to click "Do not use" and then go through the long way, update and link my account after? this is stupid...

When you select "Do not use" you'll just set up 2 or 3 options and will be able to update the firmware and change to your normal user. It's totally unintuitive and lots of people had problem with this (including me).

OK yeah man i thought so. im not THAT stupid and i agree, its totally unintuitive. the one i got came with a screen protector and everything so its not a bad package all up.

Just updating the firmware now and then will hopefully link my UAE PSN account and play uncharted.

Just one thing - when the system goes to sleep (During downloading firmware) it still is downloading right>

Still not sure what to do - could buy a Vita tomorrow for a little more and have it early. But the x/o button swap thing really irritates me. Guess I'll pass and wait for the official release.

GO FOR IT

Have to say my prime ps3 is jpn import and prefer using O for all positive actions. Find it odd when going back to the UK one.

Problem is that a) I use my Ps3 regularly and thus am used to have it the other way around and b) according to IGN non-JP games switch the buttons on software level, making the whole experience inconsistent.

I don't think there's a single need to use face buttons (not counting the PS button) in the menu. It's like iOS but with more flicking to close apps.

If only true for PSP emulation then I could deal with it.

As long as nobody can confirm how EU/US Vita games will handle this I'm still a little wary.

just got it all set up.

Played uncharted. looks good, the screen is nice and it sounds nice. The only thing is the grip for the vita is WIDE - and the buttons are quite small.

One thing, in Uncharted, does it save automatically? i played for about 5 mins, quit, and it took me back to the start of the chapter.

Also - can you only reload by tapping the top left of the screen? cos that sucks....

One of the SEGA Vita games (late 2012) is being made at a brand new SEGA UK studio called 'Hardlight studios'. The name has been trademarked in Germany too, so it might be the name of the first game.

Just ordered blazblue and UMVC3 from play asia....

i really gotta stop buying things :/

I know the feeling. February is going to demolish my wallet and March won't be much better. I want too many darn games to go with that First Edition Vita that I've already paid off. Restraint is going to be necessary and I'm not that great at restraint.

Good times... we didn't use to count fps and joysticks had only one button.

It was a damn good button though! Satisfying and solid. Same for my stick.

(I used joysticks called 'The Arcade', I've been meaning to convert them to USB so I can use them for emulation)

Not to mention the disk swapping! Often times you had to swap disks to even load the title screen, and then swap disks again to start the first level.

With fighting games (I think Street Fighter 2 did this) you'd had to swap disks between each fight.

We are so spoiled.

We are trained to wait long loading times without say something :)

OK i just set up remote play on my Vita. THis is without a doubt the best thing ever.

I can stream videos (porn) from my PC, to my PS3 via PS3 media server, then watch so called videos (porn) on my vita screen on the other side of the house. fan fucking tastic.

Fake Kaz Hirai twitter account:
Vita sales have been very impressive. It has already overtaken other portable consoles for lifetime sales in Japan, like PSP Go and Gizmondo
Vita is selling great. If you can find 1 anywhere* that's been on shelves for more than 5 min, I'll give you $1,200 for it. (*In USA/Europe)
Team Ico says The Last Guardian can only be released in 2012 if Vita sales improve. No, I can't explain why, but you should buy one anyway
PSP's sales in Japan are still very impressive. It is doing so well this it's even outselling one of the next generation portables!
ESA announces they no longer support SOPA after the bill had been shelved. That's like EA announcing they now no longer support Dreamcast

Quite funny.
Yoshida retweeted one of his tweets.

What kind of videos?

Got an email with a PSVITA survey; do it and you get a chance to get a $50 Visa gift card. Apparantely it only goes out to people who went to those event thingies (I went to the one in Dallas, TX; they gave me a slip off paper with a code on it for a chance to win a VITA. Didn't win.)

SEGA is pleased to announce the creation of a new boutique game development studio, Hardlight, located in the West Midlands area of the UK.

Hardlight is SEGA’s third UK based studio and is focused exclusively on creating high quality, innovative game experiences for both current and future platforms. Their first project, due for late 2012, will be a unique action adventure developed exclusively for the brand new Sony PSVita platform.

The team was founded with the ethos of staying compact, agile and focused – combining talent from a variety of game genres and backgrounds and working closely with SEGA R&D Studio to stay at the cutting edge of developments in technology, middleware and game experiences.

...very interesting...

For JGaf... what are your Near experience overall?

We saw a lot of demos and explanations, but how is the experience for the users? They add new gameplay? For example, I saw something about treasures in Uncharted, related with Vita.

Slightly Extended Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz Trailer - unlike the 3DS game, this one seems to be in the oven a bit longer and is set for release in the summer.

Nothing seems very new but few new screens tho
Edit: Never mind also music change when click each different section

If you go to the "SPECIAL" tab and click on the non-Toyama interview there's music clips you can click on and listen to. The soundtrack sounds really nice.

I got really claustrophobic at the end! I think I have too much empathy to play Monkeyball. <breathes>

The real-time clock feature is neat, did any previous versions have that? Mostly I just want it to be native resolution and 60fps. It should be gorgeous on that display.

I've got a few random song unlocks for Star Strike. Aside from this, thanks to near I know the theoretical number of people with Vitas in my vicinity (30-40) and what are the most popular games around here.

Pretty useless so far.

One more month to go!

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas day to come already. I'm just really impressed at the lineup of software hitting the system in it's first month. Very few gaming platforms can boast a lineup where most of the games are looking to be true gems.

My list is already 10 games deep, and I'll be getting all 10 within that first month. It's crazy.

I have literally never gotten it to work, even once.

I have a wifi model and I leave in Nagasaki. It's never been able to figure out where I am, regardless of what connection I use.
